Elite MMA - Martial Arts Near Me - Kingwood, Texas

I ended my membership at this location after a serious negative experience. During that time, an instructor repeatedly stared me down during class and, on one occasion, showed up at an unrelated weight gym I was using and stared at me as I exited. A member also repeatedly followed me around in class and remained within about a foot of me even after I walked away or left the area to get distance. I raised concerns about this behavior, but I did not feel they were handled appropriately. When I raised concerns with leadership, I was told in substance that my concerns would be dismissed and that they would stand by the instructor involved. After I spoke up, I felt the situation became worse rather than better. I also tried to follow up through multiple channels because I wanted there to be awareness and oversight, but I did not receive a meaningful response. Based on my experience, I did not feel safe or supported in the training environment and felt I had no reasonable option but to leave. The experience had lasting effects on my sense of safety and confidence. Members should be able to raise serious concerns without fear of dismissal or escalation. This happened years ago, and I hope processes and oversight have improved since then. read more

I have a 6 year old son who is struggling with some emotional issues since my recent divorce, he needs a healthy way to express his feelings so I thought I would see if mma would be that outlet. We made an appointment with Christian, who btw has the sweetest smile and adorable laugh. They had my son come to a regular kid class and join in with everyone else, my son was super uncomfortable and wanted nothing to do with any of it. Didn't take long during the one hour class and the instructor Ari had my son throwing him to the mat then high fiveing him on the way back up. I could see his attitude was changing and after he finished that class he was asking when he could come back. The instructors and even the front desk lady Shannon made sure that my son felt secure and welcomed when we arrived the next day for his first official day. That's huge. My only complaint is how crowded the sitting area is, I had to stand outside due to no seating and also no where to even stand inside. The place is clean and the bathrooms are well kept, definitely recommend this place. read more

Elite MMA - Martial Arts Near Me - Kingwood, Texas

We have been coming to Elite as a family since 2016 and can't say enough good things about it. There is a very family friendly and low pressure vibe. You don't have to feel self conscious if you are new to martial arts, just show up and do the work; everyone is there to support you and celebrate your progress! Martial arts are truly wonderful for building self confidence, kids and adults alike, and any gym that is willing to be there with you, building you up no matter what is a gem. Also, Mrs Shannon at the front desk is probably the sweetest person alive. read more

If you can dedicate attending 3-4x a week, for a whole year at a time- then the $200/mo is good. If you cannot, for whatever reason- there's nothing offered outside of this price point. I attended 2 full years, going into my 3rd year, however, most often I found myself doing just kickboxing 1-2x/week & desired an adjusted payment to reflect that value. I was informed that was not possible, & go ahead and send in my cancellation...I was a bit shocked & upset so, I did just that & canceled my contract upon renewal this January. Seems I was expendable. I'd spent a brief time in jiu jitsu there, and I'm sharing my only experience with it. I realize any contact sport, any sport, there's potential for injuries. That said, I believe there's room to minimize those. I learned the most, & felt "safe" drilling with instructors' and grappling with upper belts much more experienced than myself. I knew that they knew enough to avoid injury not only for themselves, but me as well. But this isn't what you're doing most of the time...and after being paired up a few times with white belts as uneducated as myself- & scrappy- unaware about potential injuries- to themselves or me, my comfort level flew out the window & I backed off training. Specifically, when my finger got jammed backwards. If I got Real hurt, I'd have only myself to blame, seeing these red flags. As a mom to young toddler who depends on me daily, I couldn't afford to get hurt so there went my jiu jitsu training & how I ended up just kickboxing. Didn't enjoy this predicament, not 1 phone call was ever made to discuss anything. The larger the classes, the less hands-on involved the coaches were, or possibly could be. There also was less rolling space in general. Two additional classes, 5am & 12pm, were smaller, but I couldn't get to, that's my deal. This was my very first BJJ gym, I had nothing to compare it with. It's too bad, I liked the coaches & members, still saw myself there as my schedule could open up, smaller classes in the future, & some adjustments. I just needed them to meet me where I was currently. After attending a few years, thought it wouldn't be an issue. Since all this has happened, I've researched there's 2 major groups within BJJ World: Sport BJJ & Self defense BJJ...and every gym will have their unique way of directing the white belt journey. For me, working with upper belt instructors as much as possible is key, building the right foundation. Everything happens for a reason, & you don't know what you don't know as a beginner. Visit several different gyms, observe their "way". Non-contracts & flexibility in general are always nice. read more

I've been training here for years, great safe environment.. would highly recommend!!!

Great gym and instructors. I would 100% recommend them to anyone at any experience level.

This place is amazing! Great way to get in shape while having fun and learning a much needed skill... self defense. I joined jiujitsu for exercise. I lost 20 lbs in 2 months and the best part about training here is u have knowledgeable coaches and they make sure the mats are clean!!!!! And Shannon, who runs the front, is amazing! Always here for us, making sure we keep Covid out, and makes us feel like family. And when u join... u actually join a family of good humble people. read more

I joined February 2016 with the objectives of working out and learning martial arts via Jiu jitsu. A bit intimidated at first because this type of martial art is new to me. The instructors, Mr. Jordan and Mr. Tyler, made it very friendly and instructional. The higher belt students are equally nice and very supportive. My brother saw great changes in my physical appearance, while I find greater confidence and comradeship with the class. Ariel Malicse, Ph.D. read more

I'm active duty military and Mitch and Jordan were absolutely accommodating and helpful with my goals and what I needed as far as training. I was very impressed with their leadership and training style and the camaraderie of the students. Clean facilities, SOLID training and an awesome workout. I learned a LOT from these guys and I'll take it with me overseas. read more

I have been training at Elite for 3 years and never could think of calling any other gym home. It is a down to earth gym where everyone is focus on improving and learning. There is a variety of skill levels which makes the opportunity for growth even greater. I feel that Elite mma team really believes anyone can do bjj, ppl are encouraging and helpful Whether your looking to compete or just try something new this is the place. On a side note the music that they play during the advanced class really takes class to another level read more

Had a good experience at first, then it got crowded. Too many kids. My son was put in a submission hold during practice and the female coach wasn't even paying attention, more than once. I had to interrupt practice to let her know the kids needed supervision. She tends to watch a few kids (family or favorites I don't know) and leave the rest on their own to spar. The kids are all too new, don't know what they are doing yet to be left alone. having two coaches for twenty sparring kids while the one coach only stands in one spot and watches the same kids the whole time is not good safety or learning. My kids were both scared to go because they both have been hurt there. We took a break a few months ago, my husband called to cancel last week, and they charged us today for the $400. Don't bring your kid here if you want them to learn skills and feel confident. They took on too many clients and didn't balance the schedule. Everyone just comes any days they want so you never know if it's full up or there is room, never know student teacher ratio for that day. I wish they would recruit more coaches to keep it productive for the kids. Can't they get some high school students to referee? Or set a max per class and have people book online the day they will go so you don't get overloaded every week. It's neglectful to let so many young kids on the gym sparring MMA with so few teachers to keep an eye on them. My sons back still hurts from a sparring match at 'class' 6months ago. Super disappointing experience all around. read more

I have been training at Elite MMA Kingwood for about a year. I had tried 4 other places before I decided Elite was the best fit for me. Here are some of the reasons. 1. The instructors are very knowledgeable and skillful Jiu Jitsu practitioners. Equally important to me, they are friendly, cool guys that push you to do better but have fun at the same time. 2. The students I train with are at varying skill levels. Everyone is very helpful and friendly. Nobody here, in my experience, comes in with an attitude of trying to hurt anyone. Everybody works really well together. 3. I live in Kingwood so the location works great for me. Coming to class is one of the things I most look forward to each week. Jiu Jitsu is an awesome way to get in shape or stay in shape. The Kick Boxing classes are great as well for getting in shape. read more

It's been 10+ years since I've kickboxed, I'm a "big girl" now and was very nervous and apprehensive about getting involved again. Jordan & Shannon made me feel very welcome & my very fit partner for the evening was very encouraging, pushing me to to do my best, she was great! Even with my bad knee and my limitations I felt good about pushing forward. It was hard work, I couldn't do everything, but Jordan was quick to give me substitutions without making me feel less about myself. By the end if the class last night I know I'll be back! read more

Great place to train for kids and adults not only are Jordan and Tyler motivating they are also great at explaining the technique if you don't get it right away. My whole family works out here it's a great place with great people we have been members since February and seen fitness progress in both my husband and myself as we have struggled with weight loss and major back injuries it's great to feel the progress, but best of all we have seen a confidence boost in our daughters!! If folks reading this have always wondered but have thought there's no way they could ever do it try it here and you will be hooked for sure. read more

I stop by whenever I can as I live near the Galleria. As a 4 stripe brown belt, I can attest to the fact that this place is a great place to train. Jordan Rivas is super nice guy who shares everything he knows with you. He also takes the time to share all the details of each move. Furthermore, he also creates an excellent environment for both competitors and hobbyists alike. The place is Jiu Jitsu heaven because of Jordan Rivas as well as the other folks who train here. read more

This place is amazing!!! Coaches are great. My son loves training here and I highly recommend trying it out if your interested in MMA

I signed up at Elite in August of 2014. There was an eft contract that Jordan said I had to sign for his convenience. He promised me that it wasn't legally binding, and that if I ever moved it could be cancelled with a phone call. Well, I moved, and guess what. All of a sudden that conversation never happened. I only took two months of classes before I had to move for work, but he insisted that I owed for the full year. I had already paid for all the classes I had taken, but he said I owed the remaining 10 months because of the contract I signed. I begged and pleaded for more than 2 years asking him to cancel the contract, but the best he would do was give me a 25% discount off the full amount. I finally wrote a check in December of 2016 for the balance because my credit couldn't take the balance sitting at the collections agency any more. This is poor business practice, and I hope anyone reading this will take it for what it is. I couldn't recommend Elite MMA any less. They should be put out of business. The world isn't right anymore when you can't believe someone who calls themselves your friend. read more

I started training at Elite MMA's Westheimer location about ten years ago and loved the kick boxing class and made life long friends. Currently I train at the Kingwood location and I enjoy having options in how I would like to train with either the tier 1 or tier 2 offering. It's a great workout and I also feel confident I could defend myself if needed. Also, my two children train jiu jitsu (ages 4 and 9) and both enjoy the class. It's taught them discipline, respect for others and a skill they can utilize throughout their life. Great place, world class training - highly recommend for all levels. read more
