I had a pretty bad experience with Elite Mulch, an Elite Midwest Company. I ordered 7 yards of mulch with installation and I specifically asked for the morning appointment. Had to wait over 2 weeks for that. The day came, and they did not show in the morning. I had to call them an hour later and ask when the guys were going to be here. I was told they were finishing the yesterday's job and they would call me. No one called. I waited. Closer to noon I called again and had to leave a message. I basically told them that I did not want them to come in the following couple of hours (I have very little children who have their nap from 12 to 3pm) and if they wanted they could come after 3pm or I would just cancel. I felt like I did not care about mulch anymore. That is when I got a call back from Mark. He said they would come around 1 pm. I told him that is not what I wanted and he could come after 3pm if it was ok for him. So around 3:30pm a truck came and uploaded a pile of mulch in front of my house. The guys, so I was told, would come later. I left with my 2 children around 4pm and came back less than an hour later. They were already there working. Immidiately Mark came to talk to me and he sounded upset about me expecting that they would actually be here in the morning as we agreed and me wanting to be at home while they would be working. "Why did you need to be at home for that?" "You did not need to be here!" and stuff like that. Then he said they were almost finished and they would be done in 15 minutes! Seriously?! And I saw a huge pile of mulch still sitting there in front of my house. So are there 7 yards of mulch in my yard already? Will they really be there in 15 minutes? - I was thinking... I had to go and take my kids out of the car first and wanted to come and talk to Mark more later. 10 minutes later I looked out and saw them uploading some mulch onto their cart for my yard and some right into their truck!!! Wow! I went outside and just stood there looking at what they were doing. I did not know what to make out of it. Mark came running to me asking: "You are probably wondering what we are doing" Well, yes! So he said that they brought extra 4 yards of mulch to my house in case if I needed it. Really? Actually, he said they always bring extra 4 yards of mulch to every house. Well, even if that was what they did, then how do they know where there are my 7 yards and their 4 yards of mulch in that pile? Why would they do extra work uploading extra 4 yards and then loading them back in to their truck again? Is that why they did not want me to be at home and see what they were doing?! When I asked why would they do it, because it did not make any sense, Mark got so defensive and angry, and yelled at me for not trusting them and asking questions. He also accused me of calling him a thief, although I never said it. He just kept yelling in front of my face "Are you calling me a thief?!" Mark was mad and defensive, and acted exactly as if he did do something wrong and got caught. He was rude to me and what I, a housewife and customer with one of her little children in her arms, felt at that moment was being bullied, harassed and taken advantage of!
I called the office the next day hoping to talk about it. I had to leave a message again asking them to call me back, but no one did!
By the way, their ad and a person on the phone promised a $50 restaurant gift card with my mulch order, but I never got it either.
I guess, after such an experience, I have no reason to trust them. ELITE MULCH? NEVER AGAIN! read more
