This time around I wanted to find an instructor that was patient with beginners and could articulate the lessons in a way that anyone at any level could comprehend. Maz is just that. He is a super intelligent being who adapts to the individual he's working with. Over the last 9 months I've improved my boxing skills and Maz always is sure to change things up and throw in challenges to enable consistent and continued growth. It is very aesthetically pleasing, to me at least :) The homeschool class is very fun while at the same time helping the students focus and increase their strength! I'm really torn on this place..so 3 stars seems appropriate…read more I've been looking for a place to get back into boxing training and this place seemed to fit the bill- close to my house, relatively good air flow- huge roll up windows, and a wide variety of classes after 5pm which works really well with my schedule. They have a website so I emailed them, but never heard back. Meh, ok...no big deal. I called but the voicemail doesn't match the name of the establishment...but I did receive a voicemail and then a text from someone named Johnny (there are two Johnny's at this place so I'm not sure which one I texted with). We exchanged a few texts and I told him what I was looking for- boxing training/classes and I wanted to check out/watch a class...and he told me to come in on Monday at 5pm or 6pm. So, I went in at 4:50 on Monday...lo and behold....there's no boxing until 6pm, so I have no idea why I was told to come in at 5pm. Anyway...I hung around for a bit, spoke to Johnny (not sure if this was the same person I texted with), and received a class schedule. I was sort of sour on this place after that, but decided to give it a shot. Let me rate the class- the class is good. Coach Johnny (not the person who I spoke to about membership) ran the class and it was a solid boxing technique class. Having been in the fitness industry for years prior to covid, there were a few things concerning to me...like no cool down or stretching after class and no safety cues during the class...but I don't think most people would notice it. Newcomers are separated from the main class but once Coach Oliver saw I had experience, he told me to join the class. Membership is 125/m which is on par with other speciality training centers. I ultimately decided not to join for several reasons- while their paperwork to join was pretty standard like release of liability, 30 days notice to cancel....all standard....there was no option to 'pause' your membership for a medical reason. Also, the area surrounding the club gets sketchy at night. I wouldn't feel comfortable walking to my car after class alone after the time change. My search continues.....

To my surprise, the fee was for a day pass with access to all classes (not a class fee). This gave me the desire to want to come back later that day to get in another class. The morning class was taught by coach Jonathan, there were about 10 people in attendance. Class consisted of warm ups/stretching, techniques, and live rolls. The night class was taught by Coach Geo. As he was greeting everyone he was familiar with, he shook my hand and greeted me as he didn't recognize me (thought that was really cool of someone who is so accomplished within the sport). This was a much larger class with about 40-50 people in attendance. Class consisted of warm-ups, techniques and live rolls. This academy has more than just Jiu-Jitsu for those who like to cross train in other martial arts or strength & conditioning. It was a solid day of training. Thank you for allowing me to drop-in and I would love to return again!

I wish I had had time to take more classes. Everyone was friendly and welcoming. As a woman, it feels a bit daunting walking into a BJJ class, but I felt at home and at ease almost immediately. The gym is clean; I loved the access to locker rooms and although I didn't use it, loved that they have a sauna available in the women's locker room. The class format was easy to follow and the instructor (Ricky) did a great job explaining the technique and giving feedback as he walked around. Thank you to Lauren for the warm welcome and tour when I arrived, and to all the "regulars" for helping me feel right at home!

I moved to the San Diego area and was looking to get back into Taekwondo. I found Master An and he was so welcoming! 30 years older (58) and overweight with a lot of broken parts, he takes what you have left and works with you and your abilities. I am working my way back up to where I was, lost over 60 pounds and look forward to the next class because it is so fun here! We really are a family. There are complete families who attend here - mom, dad, kids and have been here for years. Even the kids who have gone off to school always come back here on their breaks to take class. Master An is a wonderful instructor. He is so perfect with the little ones! The kids really seem to enjoy their classes, and you can tell he has so much fun teaching them! This is not a huge school where you are a nobody. Since everyone is at a different level, he gives special attention to each person. Everyone here is very encouraging to each other. I highly recommend An's Taekwondo! He offers a free class so come in and see what I mean!
