Thank you Hayley and the Yelp team for treating us to a cool experience located in the Orange Circle. Chaiwale and Co. replaced The Pie Hole and is located across from The Filling Station. Parking is a little difficult so make sure you give yourself extra time to allow for parking. I came on a Friday mid-afternoon and this place was pretty busy, with people seated in and outdoors. We were given a free chai and dessert. I opted for the hot CARDAMOM CHAI and the MANGO LASSI CHEESECAKE. I also got a PISTACHIO ROSE LOAF $6 so I could try some more of their offerings. I waited for about 10 minutes for my order. The cardamom chai was delicious. I devoured the mango lassi cheesecake. It could have used a little more sauce on the top, but it was very good. The pistachio rose loaf was aesthestically pleasing and very tasty. It was moist and not overly sweet. I will definitely come back here for their other items like burritos and pranthas. As I walked up to Chaiwale I realized it replaced pie hole! I asked the employee for their recommendations and tried the cardamom chai and mango cheesecake. Both were really good! A great yelp elite experience! It included a free chai drink and a dessert. The mango lassi cheesecake was really tasty and a perfect single serving portion. I really liked their chai tea, it had a good strong tea flavor without the bitter tannin taste and not too sweet or watered down with milk. I also purchased a tandoori chicken burrito since it was lunch time and it was really filling and tasty, chicken was tender and flavorful. I really wanted to try their unique menu items that I don't see at other places. I redeemed a Kuffi Tres Leche and an iced Chai Latte. I really enjoyed the Indian influenced spices on these classic favorites. I wanted to support the business while I was here, so I also purchased a Butter Chicken Burrito ($11.99). I was hoping it would be wrapped in a naan bread, but it was in a regular tortilla. As I bite into it, the flavors were amazing. I enjoy the butter chicken flavors, but it was one dimensional. There was no texture or other ingredients in there. It was really heavy and I could only handle about half of it. I really appreciate the yelp perk and looking forward to coming back to support the business again the next time I'm in the area. read more

Is Chaiwale the Indian Starbucks, I wonder? It is certainly a new experience for me. The person at the counter doesn't seem to understand what a Yelp experience is, so I paid for my order instead of a lengthy explanation. Chaiwale is located at the corner of Glassell and Maple, across the street from the Filling Station for you who knows the area. There are plenty of street parking if you are lucky enough to find one. Alternatively, look for the public parking lot at Maple and Orange, behind the Chipotle. Its interior is nothing like the American coffee shops. There are 3 circles of large chairs for groups of friends, plus a couple of bench seats with a view of outside. Samosas are good but not exceptional. Their chai is like traditional English tea, served with milk. The music is pretty loud. Probably good for those who knows Hindi or enjoys Bollywood, but doesn't do much for me as I don't understand a word of it. read more

First time at this chai place and I liked it! I ordered my small chai tea and got the pistachio rose loaf. Both were tasty. I'm really surprised at how moist the rose loaf was. The staff was nice enough to allow me to try this instead of a dessert. I liked the indoor decor and it was quite crowded for a Friday. Good place for people to hang out and work remotely. Thanks for setting up this event! I am a big fan of chai and really enjoyed this place! Went with the Iced Rose Matcha latte which was really flavorful (Which was more Rose tasting than matcha, but still tasty!) For the dessert, I went with the pistachio cheesecake, also really flavorful and delicious! I was reading other Yelpers reviews and saw that they didn't receive their complimentary items, sorry to hear! I didn't encounter that problem during my visit. They didn't really ask cross reference my name so anyone could have received free items. read more

First time here and immediately was welcome by front cashier and the dynamic of the place is so rustically peaceful. I love how it's a very holistic approach with comfortable seating. The first thing I realized was this place used to be The Pie Hole, and I was immediately a little bit sad because it's where I met my partner for the first time 6 years ago. Anyway, The review highlights more positive parts to this experience. Food: Cake: I am very sorry that I didn't listen to what the cake was called, but this was absolutely delicious and light. As you can see in the pictures it was brightly powdered with assorted flavors and floral pieces and with the cake being wet and absorbing the milky custardy sauce at the bottom, I was absolutely impressed with how moist and delectable each piece was. I'm so glad I went with the recommended cake option and I would absolutely get it again. Again, I'm sorry I don't remember the name. Kadak Chai: as a typically non-chai drinker, I was recommended to try this since it was said to be good as an iced option. Unfortunately, this was not really the flavors that I enjoyed and the chai seemed a bit too earthy and slightly on the more bitter side than I would have liked. Overall, it was still a very flavorful and refreshing drink. But since my pallette is not sophisticated in the chai arena,I'll go with the originals... What I noticed in the shop was that they kept most of the decor of The Pie Hole and they also had some pies that had the same flavors which was peculiarly interesting. I'm glad they kept a lot of the original interior look because it was a very classy and timeless look. My dessert and drink was superb and I really enjoyed the quick service and attention to detail. I have such font memories of The Circle from high school that I love coming back here. I was delighted to participate in the Chaiwale & Co. Yelp Elite Experience, as I'm not a coffee drinker (nope, never). But I do enjoy tea - so I figured I'd enjoy some chai. When I arrived (Thursday, mid-afternoon) there was one gentleman who appeared to be running the whole show (orders and making drinks). There was one table of about 5 people occupied inside. Upon arriving, I wasn't greeted straight away, but after standing for a bit, he said he'd be right with me, which I appreciated. Now: I have zero familiarity with chai, and they have three types. I asked for clarification on them and was told one is strong, one has a cardamom flavor and one a ginger flavor. I have no idea what cardamom is. I asked if one was more popular and if he had a favourite (he doesn't drink chai), so I picked the Kadak -- the middle one on the menu. For my dessert option, as I tea lover, I picked the earl grey tea pie. Realizing that I was going to overload on sweets, I also went back and ordered the samosas. Chai: Yeah, it was good. I'm going to have to read up on it. Is it caffeinated? I appreciate that I was asked if I would like to enjoy it there or for take away. Earl Grey Tea Pie: Kind of like a... mousse pie with a chocolate-cake crust? On the pie crust, there was chocolate laid onto it, which made it a little hard to eat. It was interesting. Samosas: I'm not super familiar with Samosas, but I felt it needed some substance, which is why I ordered these. The sauce that it came with helped moisten them. I love the location and the decor. Really cute inside. I would like to come back and try one of their regular teas, too. I would have had it yesterday, but caffeine overload -- maybe, haha. Oh! Such a cute aesthetic Indian tea room and cafe! Interior had teapots hanging from the ceiling and combined with the furniture, this gave comfy cozy vibes. Love how this location is near various other shops so you cand ef explore around! Came on a Sunday and they were having their tea party setup so I had to sit outside. It was my first time trying the Masala Chai tea with almond milk which was good. Not too sweet and chai was more subtle which fit my tastebuds. The Pistachio Cheesecake was creamy and not overly sweet, which was good, in my opinion, since I don't like too sweet of cakes. Will def come back to enjoy their other baked goods! read more

I love seeing new coffee and tea spots open up, so I was super excited to see Chaiwale make its debut in Orange! This was good timing, because I had a huge deadline to meet and was in need of caffeine! Parking was street parking, which wasn't too hard to find in the middle of the day on a weekday; I'm sure it may be harder over the weekend if you aren't able to get there by Friday. As I walked in, I received a warm welcome from the barista who walked me through my options for the Elite Experience. I decided to go with an iced masala chai with oat milk and a kulfi tres leches. And I think I made the right choice! The chai was beautifully spiced and strong, and was a huge contrast from places like Starbucks that use a super sweet concentrated syrup. I definitely want to go back and try the hot version, since I think the ice melted pretty quickly. But the most exciting part was the tres leches!! This blew my mind. The main problem I have is the parking because it took me an hour to find parking because today was pack. The music is very upbeating and great decor as an Indian coffee shop. Today, my Yelp elite experience I got the masala chai pie and iced masala chai latte. Masala chai pie: it is good, but one of the frosting tastes a little different than the other. The inner pie was good, but a lot of chai which is good a little overpowering. I love the presentation of the pie it looks very aesthetic and excellent for eye catching moment. I would give this pie a 4/5 since this was the only part I like about it. Iced masala chai latte: I personally don't like this drink because it does not have the aromatic of chai. It mainly tastes run down to me personally & I wish they have their own sweeter to enhance the flavor. I also have to add four packets of sugar to try to get the drink of my preference. I would give this drink a 2/5 since this drink was not in my liking sadly. I wish they can improve their drinks a little better. If you love Indian lattes or coffee then this is a place for you! The service was excellent & fast. The employee is very nice and friendly. I'm only giving it four stars because of the employee. What a perfect corner spot by the Orange Circle! Super easy to locate and there's plenty of street parking as well as a public parking lot right behind the shop. Seating is plentiful inside and out. Inside there are comfy leather chairs to lounge on or a cute bar/counter situation that faces the sidewalk. At 2PM the outside seating was perfectly shaded for pleasant al fresco dining. There seemed to only be one person running the shop, but he did an excellent job of taking orders, preparing them, and delivering them to customers. Indian music was playing at a volume that made the place upbeat, but it's a bit too loud for anyone wanting to work or study. We tried a little bit of everything today. Butter chicken and tandoori chicken burritos: both were delicious and came with a side of a minty sauce. Would definitely order again! Vegetable samosas: served warm and crunchy with a side of slightly spicy sauce. Very tasty and would definitely order again. Pistachio Rose scone: I was super excited to try this one because the flavor combo sounded appealing to me. Unfortunately, it was a big miss. The bite without the glaze was not sweet at all and was very bland. The bite with glaze was better, but still a miss. Sadly, not worth the calories. Chocolate Orange scone: not sweet at all and neither one of the flavors really stood out. Definitely the better of the two we tried, but would not order again. It's a chai shop, so I decided to try the masala chai, hot. Not much sweetness and, for me, an over-powering floral flavor. Would not order again. My daughter ordered the matcha rose latte, iced. It was a beautiful presentation mostly pink on the bottom topped with a creamy matcha foam, then sprinkled with edible dried rose petals. Gorgeous!! She did end up adding sweetener to it, but she thoroughly enjoyed it!! I'm not usually a fan of matcha, but I tried her drink and really liked it!! I'd definitely order one for myself next time!! I ordered a hot chai, mango lassi cheesecake, and purchased the gulab jamun cheesecake and breakfast burrito. Their oven was down so they used the microwave for the burrito, which was fine. It was just a simple hashbrown, egg, cheese burrito with some pepper flakes. Had kick, but I could use more protein of some sort. Their hot chai was HOT. I know some people who like their hot drinks burning their entire mouth, so they would've been able to drink it right away. As for me, I like it just a tad cooler so had to wait before enjoying it. But when I did, it was so good! I'm no chai-expert, but I liked what I tasted. The cheesecakes were delicious. Customer service was nice. It was just me so she girl at the front just helped me then ran her morning errands in terms of getting the place ready. Maybe it was just where I was sitting, but I was about to do some work but noticed no outlets. Again, maybe it was just where I was sitting. So no biggie. But I would very much return! I never tried the Indian Chai tea. Chai is flavorful. I can taste the ginger, black tea, and other spices. The tea pots are hanging on the ceiling and looks so unique. Parking on the street was just fine at 3 pm on a Thursday but beware of the Orange Circle peak times Was greeted by staff even though I could see they were busy. Decided to try the masala chai and the mango lassi cheesecake. Loved both! The chai color is deep and you can tell how good it will be just by the look. I opted for almond milk and was told it wouldn't be as creamy as whole milk. It was still good! I dropped by to try authentic Indian chai and pastries and I was wowed by how great the experience was! Public parking was thankfully nearby, which was really nice. It was very easy to just come into the store and ask to be checked off on the elite experience list. For this elite experience, we could pick any 1 chai drink and any 1 pastry/dessert. The pastries looked so good and although I got the Earl Grey Pie and absolutely loved it, I am so coming back just to try the other pastries as well! The iced Kadak Chai was so good! I asked the cashier which drink he recommended and he recommended this one, which I really appreciated. My friend and I came on a Thursday afternoon and the shop was fairly busy. The air conditioner seems to not be working so the shop was very warm. I discovered the Indian tea Chai thanks to the Yelp event. The interior looks so comfy, attracted by lots of Indian tea pots hanging on the ceiling. I got the iced chai w chocolate mousse cake. I was initially hesitant about coming due to this location since it's in the orange circle. But surprisingly we were able to get some parking in a parking lot right behind the chipotle. As for the actual store, It was very cute with all the plants and comfy chairs. This looks like a great place to catch up with a couple of friends. The store does't get too much sunlight so I think it would be a great place to do some light computer work. The staff was very welcoming and greeted us as we walked in. As for the food we got the iced chai and the earl grey pie. The chair was very nice and cold for a warm day. Not too strong. I would prefer it to be a bit sweeter but I think it balanced well with the earl grey. You definitely get the hints of earl grey without it being overwhelming. I never made it in here while this location was the pie hole because there was only ever one flavor of pie that ever interested me. Well, I am LOVING the rebrand into an Indian cuisine lane. Having more than one offering of chai is so cool because I love it spicy. Staff was also very knowledgeable in explaining the difference in types to me. I did think my drink could have had more flavor, but it was still good. The new variety of offered desserts had me buying a couple just to try, hehe! I got a mango lassi cheesecake and the rose pistachio loaf. The former was sweet and creamy with great mango flavor. The latter was dense and rich with a sweet rosy icing and the loaf itself had a deep nutty flavor. The decor is lovely. There are hanging teapots, plants, and plenty of cushiony seats to gather on. I noticed that I haven't been to an Elite event this whole year and seeing this business open up, I had to RSVP for my chances. Was very excited when I got accepted to try it out! Upon arrival today, Wednesday, August 21st around 7:30AM, I wasn't greeted nor was there any eye contact made because the guy up front was too busy doing something else. I had to stand at the counter and say hi myself to get his attention. I said I was there for the Yelp Elite Perk and I had asked if he needed my name. He replied with a very quiet no and to show him email confirmation. Email confirmation is nice and all, but he just glanced at it so basically anyone with a copy of the email can get free goods. After he got that info, he still didn't make me feel welcome nor did he tell me anything about the menu. He looked more pissed off that he had to work early than anything else which left a sour first impression. Here's what I ordered: **Masala Chai (Iced): I haven't had too many experiences with chai so I'm definitely not the expert but this drink was lacking. I'm sure getting the drink ice may have had some impact with the flavor so maybe it was my mistake doing that. It was heavily loaded with milk and I wasn't able to taste any of the spices that made it a "masala chai." (2/5) **Gulab Jamun: The cheesecake portion on the bottom was averagely sweet but the overall flavor was lacking. On top was the smallest piece of gulab jamun imaginable. I would've liked another piece or two on top. (3/5) Pistachio Cheesecake: Unbearably sweet. The base cheesecake was much sweeter than your standard cheesecake and had a very mushy texture in the center. The pistachios sprinkled on top was a nice touch. (1/5) There was one person inside waiting for their goods and the guy that helped me out hand delivered a drink and pastry to their seat. On the other hand, when my order was ready, I heard a faint "your order is ready." I don't expect to be treated like royalty but please have some common customer service etiquette, especially for a very new business. The whole interaction was negative and had no positive points whatsoever. Dude's facial expression was -_- the whole time and it was awkwardly uncomfortable on my behalf. I felt bad so I bought an extra item. There was no tip function while paying with card so I felt bad again. Overall, I'm glad there wasn't a tip function available because this place wasn't it. I would've loved to try out their burritos and other drinks but this first impression was bad enough that I don't want to return even if I got my bill taken care of on the house. Sending my deep appreciation to the owner of Chaiwale & Co, Orange and Hayley for this amazing Elite Experience. I had a great time relaxing with hot Chai and Kulfi Tres and chatting with the clerk today. Located at previous The Pie Hole shop, this place transformed to an exotic Indian shop. Wherever you sit, you will experience the unique ambient with great Indian music. The clerk had an amazing hospitality and he was prompt getting the food and drink out. He told me that he made a big pot of Chai for the Yelp Elites, which was so sweet. The Chai had a perfect spice with smooth milk and the cake was not only beautiful just to look at it but also very delicious that I had to try their other items so I togo chocolate mousse cake, which the clerk brought out fresh from the oven and Samosa's that was flaky and warm. Parking is challenging in DTO! Great event to try a drink and food item. I'm newer to North Tustin, so hadn't been to DTO yet. Was a perfect excuse; and now plan on regular trips back to the area. The cafe was heavily adorned with Indian decore throughout with traditional music playing loudly in the background. Great place to meet up with friends, but may be too much for studying. Tried the chai pie and mango treat. Both were really good. The chai was great as well, just wish there were more options than whole milk and almond milk. Perhaps we are maladjusted to the customization of coffee orders?! :-) Appreciate having the opportunity to try out new locations that I probably wouldn't have otherwise. SYOY! read more

Wowwwww on days like today I'm extra pumped to be among the lucky Yelp Elite. The last time I was in this space it was a dessert shop called the Pie Hole, and the upgrade to Chaiwale is actually stunning. The vibes here are immaculate! Loved the Indian hip hop and all the lush green plants everywhere. Service was so kind and helpful, and the actual food and chai -- 10/10. That Tres Leches is insane! I got a slice of masala chai pie for my son and he devoured it. This would be such a great place to sit and chill with friends or get a little work done with a nicely spiced little caffeine buzz from all the chai options. The business did not seem like they knew a yelp event was going on, I had to wait in line at least twice and got charged for my order. I waited in the cashier line and they told me it was reservations only and I told them I was trying to just place an order to-go. I ended up ordering 3 pastries in addition to the dessert & chai but was charged for 4 pastries and did not receive the chai. The staff was pretty rude, I ended up waiting in line again to re-order the chai. (I came in at 11:42AM and finally got my order at 12:21 which seemed pretty long for a cafe with the pastries all set out) I ordered: - Masala chai iced with almond milk, it was so watered down and had a strong bitter aftertaste. I left the drink in the fridge for 20 minute and the liquids split, there was about 80% water and the remaining concentration at the bottom. - Scone: This was so dry, it also tasted like it was made of tap water? - Earl grey tea pie: Due to the long wait the pastries didn't keep well and the cream flattened. If you're ordering to go, I would recommend to not get the pies. - Mango lassi cheese cake: This is probably one of my favorite items, it's very sweet though so I'd recommend pairing it with something less sweet Overall appreciate the event, it was great to explore a new location, I just wished the staff was more on top of it. read more
