We used Hammer for a major remodel of our 100+ year old home. The owner, Greg, is a great…read moresalesperson and nice guy, but we ultimately didn't think the cost was worth it. The overall quality was solid, but it was more of a build than a design and build, even though you're paying for both services with Hammer. For example, our kitchen has drawers to nowhere, because the countertop comes out overtop of them (and a useless outlet in that drawer); in a bathroom, they had to jerry-rig a vanity drawer that they didn't measure properly to account for the sink, and the faucet in that same bathroom barely fits so it's difficult to clean. And this was all custom-designed, custom-made by Hammer (or their vendors)! Our project team changed several times during our project, and at some point we were told our PM was pulled off to help with a bigger project (which made us feel real valued). We still have a few outstanding items to address as part of our warranty, but getting their attention or their focus past the sale has been more difficult. We interviewed several companies and decided to go with Hammer because we were sold on the design/build cohesion, but it wasn't worth the money. There are quality contractors for a better value out there.

From the initial design phase, to demolition, to installation- the hammer team was communicative, thoughtful, prompt and professional. We enjoyed working with Doug, Johanna, Santiago and Nelson. They did a great job of expectation setting before demolition on what surprises we might encounter in a 100+ year old row house. They helped amend our timeline and adjusted to our needs for the arrival of our firstborn and amended again when the baby was born early. They have high standards for look and quality and helped provide guidance when we needed it. We are very pleased with the end product and would definitely recommend hammer for anyone looking to remodel.

George was extremely responsive and came out the next day to look at the problems and talk about solutions. He was able to start work on the job the following Monday. I was most impressed with his timeliness, responsiveness, detailed explanations of the problems he was finding and proposed repairs, the accuracy of his quotes, quality of his work, and his overall kindness and caring demeanor. George really takes pride in his work and his passion for the job shows. George repaired our roof, fixed plumbing issues, did drywall repairs and painting, and also did a few other jobs around the house. He is truly a Jack of all trades and knows the ins and outs of all different aspects of home building and repair. Without question, George has gained our trust and will be the first person my husband and I call for any home repairs in the future. We fully intend to use George as our only contractor moving forward. Thanks for your kindness, professionalism, and excellent/honest work, George. We really appreciate it.

I told them I'd contact them so I can replace the other window since now I have 2 different front windows. They put a hole in my wall and tried to blame it on a recent flooding I had. That took weeks to resolve. Took them all summer to replace the shelving in my closet. when they finally installed it, it was improperly done and everything I placed on the shelf came down with the shelving and broke. Never returned my many calls regarding that. They gave me 2-3 boxes of someone else's things and wouldn't give me nor pass along my information to the correct owner so I could see if anything of MINE accidentally went to them. I left a note inside the box for the rightful owner and Rainbow went thru their things and saw my letter. I don't believe the items ever reached the owner because Rainbow kept trying to tell me that the box was mine, even tho I am not a hairdresser and the box had a hairdresser's name and things kitchen floor that was replaced is already buckling and I noticed it a month after moving back in. Bathroom looks good but cheap caulking was used and already peeling, along with the paint chipping from my tub. They cut down trees in order to install siding and left the trees in my yard along w the siding. They came back after I called and got the siding but left the trees. I can't close my laundry room door because the transition strip protrudes past the doorway so all the cold air that comes from a ventless room is in my den. Mind you, I just moved back in my house in September 2023. All of this?! I submitted a request on NYE for someone to give me an estimate and received an automated confirmation email of receipt. We are 10 days into the new year and I have yet to receive a call from them. I wish I had more hands so I could give them 4 thumbs down! I hope they see this and TRY to come for me like I saw them do someone else so I can light they azz up!

"Quality, schedule, and price: pick two," is the classic saying. Instead our project was completed ahead of schedule, just under budget, and the quality of the work was excellent. And that includes an expanded project scope that came up when we discovered large issues with a neighboring property. Fairmont was incredibly flexible and easy to work with. They were always willing to listen to our ideas and make changes as needed. They were also very responsive to my questions and concerns. Fairmont's foreman or a partner subcontractor was on-site on average more than five days a week for the entire many-month project. This allowed them to keep a close eye on the work and make sure that everything was done to the highest standards, and if not the first time, they made sure it was redone. Unlike several neighboring projects, we had no stop work orders, no neighbor complaints (complements actually), and all our inspections were successful. I would highly recommend Fairmont to anyone looking for a home builder or doing a major urban renovation. They are professional, reliable, and they do great work.

It is just about a year since Fairmont completed my whole house renovation. This home, with the…read moreexception of new appliance now and then, was in original 1911 condition when I called Fairmont. This could make a project easier - assume everything has to go. However, I am an old house lover (now a three-time renovator) and keeping or reinventing old house detail was important. Carlos manages construction, the tradesmen, the sub-contractors, and the overall quality of the workmanship on the job. He is an experienced builder, taking pride in bringing ideas to life but careful to offer full disclosure on the pros, cons and risks of each option. Jose manages the business side of the project - budgeting and billing, tracking and documenting changes, purchase of materials, recommending vendors for kitchen design, tiles, stone, flooring etc. Most important was his management of communications between Fairmont and me, the homeowner. Jose took time to ask questions and listen carefully to answers. I know and appreciate how rare it is to have good communication. I also have lived the consequences of mediocre communication. Mistakes are costly. Jose follows a protocol of asking, clarifying, and following up with an email restating our discussion and inviting me to comment, add, or correct. The answers don't matter as much as the asking and listening. This worked so well there were no horror stories. To summarize: Strong management of the permitting process, of sub-contractors, deliveries, security of the property and use of appropriate safety measures. I think its important to say also that the project was managed ethically, honestly and respectfully. Everyone on the job was pleasant and upbeat. Weekly walk-thru meetings insuring the work was proceeding according to agreement. Efficient cascade of information, decisions and/or changes, from homeowner and Fairmont to the tradesmen and subcontractors. A solid team of workers - excellent workmanship, site management and daily clean-up. Also, no profanity or loudness, no littering, no complaints from neighbors, and very happily, no accidents. Lastly, Fairmont checks in with you periodically during the year following move-in. Together we created a list of little adjustments and changes that you can't anticipate until you move in. All done! The house is lovely - beautiful carpentry, millwork and all the details that make it livable for me. I feel very fortunate to have done this work with Fairmont and I would recommend them without reservation!
