Mr. Swinton and his team did excellent repairs for us in NE DC. The inside had cracks on the walls, the bathrooms needed new fixtures, the walls needed painting, the HVAC needed servicing, 1 bathroom door and 3 utility doors needed to be repaired/replaced. The outside deck needed to be redone, the fence needed to be cleaned and painted, cracks on the bricks had to be mended and the whole front repainted. After providing a thorough estimate, they completed the work in just over a week. Everything turned out better than expected, on time, and on budget, even with additional work not previously anticipated. Mr Swinton even offered to replace the dated porch lights with updated ones at no additional cost. This is the type of person we love to work with and highly recommend him to friends, family, and other businesses. read more

A friend recommended Kelvin to me. I intended to fix a small brick project. But Kelvin showed me the projects that needed to be done: powerwash and seal the deck; powerwash the patio and front porch; clean and repair concrete steps, walkway and garden edging; wash windows outside; clean and paint downspout; clean roof; paint iron railing and the front of house. Kelvin Swinton was an absolute nightmare to work with. Avoid at all costs! Nothing but non-stop lies, excuses and shoddy work. Six months into what he claimed would be a 5-7 day project, I finally filed a complaint with DCRA and was able to cut ties with him. Even though he took thousands and thousands of dollars from me that I will never get back and left my house in worse condition than when he started, I was at the point where I was willing to lose money if it meant never having to see him again. MG Construction recently completed a job at my home and I am VERY pleased with the results. I have a retaining wall that is over 50 years old. It was damaged in several locations when a fence was installed a couple of years ago. I called several companies for a quote to repair the wall. The quote I got from Kelvin was by far the most thorough estimate that detailed the exact work to be done, whereas others provided little to no basis for their estimates at all. The crew dropped off the material at my home on Friday, and showed up first thing the following Monday morning to do the work. The team was very professional and worked quickly and quietly. At the end of the day, an entire section of the wall had been replaced. The fence had been dismantled near the damaged portions of the wall, the fence support posts repositioned and set in concrete, and then the wall reassembled. You can't even tell that any of the boards were moved. The entire job took less than a day. The wall looks great, and the post-work cleanup was excellent. I highly recommend this company and will be seeking their help on future jobs at my home! read more

Unfortunately my husband and I had a less than ideal experience attempting to work with D Sea Construction. I say attempt, because we never got to the point of hiring them, because they never could find a time to actually send us a contract they kept promising us. After an initial inquiry into their services for concrete work in our house, their initial customer service was fantastic - responsive, quick, and well-mannered. Things went lousy a couple weeks later though, after we were left waiting two days in a row for meetings with engineers that never happened. Then it got worse when the contractor, Kelvin kept promising us quotes that never seemed to come. First it was "we'll have it to you by Friday" then it was "sorry, busy with Mother's day, we'll have it to you this week". Then weeks turned into a month, and then we finally gave up, and told them we didn't want to sit around and wait forever for their quote. After all, if it takes them this long to get us a quote - with a ton of empty promises attached, I am not sure this is the type of contractor we want to give our money to, and work with anyway. read more

If you are looking for a general contractor, D Sea Construction is NOT for you!! Kelvin, the owner of the company is a "Jack of all trades, master of none" type of guy that makes promises without consulting his experts first. As a result what you get is something far from what you needed, and nothing close to what you asked, and cost that far exceeds what was quoted. I needed a driveway and my budget was $3500. I had a specific type in mind and even showed him pictures. Kelvin promised to get what needed for my budget. What I got was far from what I asked, for $5000, and the driveway is already falling apart. More importantly, I needed the work completed by a certain date for a party, and it was completed two weeks after the promised date. Look for better general contractors, and avoid headaches. read more

I heard from D-Sea soon after I contacted them and Kelvin Swinton, owner, came by soon after to scope the project. Soon thereafter I received his very detailed estimate and we agreed on items to meet my budget and work needs of $3,000 for general repair work on my old house. Not only did Kelvin keep me apprised every step of the way, he also came on site at least once a day over the 5 or so days of the project to check on his workers, make sure things were going well and that I was satisfied. When there were unexpected glitches in the work, he took them in stride and never once tried to charge more or reduce the work scope. I am very detailed oriented and he made sure the many items that were done were to my satisfaction. For example, one of the items was to fix a broken window shade. When they saw it wasn't fixable, they went to try to find one to fit at the big box store but the size wasn't standard. Kelvin then said they come back and install the one I've had to custom order (along with another one not in project scope) at no additional charge when the orders come in. He also used Benjamin Moore paint at my request, and lots of it, when my front porch project ended up being more work than could have been anticipated. I had received several estimates before selecting D-Sea and I'm very glad I did. Not only is the work excellent, but the company and Kelvin are honest, reliable and a pleasure to work with. I'm already planning more projects with them as my budget permits. It's good to know I have this company to call upon going forward and I won't hesitate to do that. Kelvin and his team are very skilled in construction. If you are there to be really clear with the sub contractors what you want again as a follow up to discussing with Kelvin, I think everyone can have a really good experience. They painted the exterior of my house 2 years ago and did a fabulous job. I also had them install a washer dryer unit inside and although the project hit a bunch of unexpected issues, he never charged me more for the extra work the team put in and I'm very satisfied with the results. D-Sea did a tremendous job gutting my kitchen and installing a new one. And no one could beat their price. They have a team of experts who know the A-Z of kitchen remodeling and how to make it happen quickly (3 weeks total). In addition to removing walls, they had to move electrical/radiators/plumbing. The owner of this company is completely horrible. I hired him to complete a backyard project in 2016. The project was only a 9 days however ended up being a 23 day project. During the project I told him of issues I had and the owner ignored me and did things he way. He finished the project and left multiple errors with deck, the underground pipe, the downspout pipes and the retaining wall. I tried to reach out to Mr. Swinton and had notes po Se for almost a calendar year. I had to obtain a lawyer and go threw DCRA to get Kelvin Swinson to come back and fix my yard. Now here we are again. He started the fix up on April 3 and it is now May 16. His employees have only been on my property a total of 6 times and they never work a full 8 hour day. Also I have told him time and time again that I did not want one particular employee on my property. He continues to let this guy come back to my yard. The employee is very old and In my opinion, does not know what he is doing on this project. This is the same guy that said a retaining wall should lean and the weather will eventually straighten it out. That guy should not be working on a professional project. He is the reason you, Kelvin Swinton have to do this project for the second time. Most importantly, the owner has tried on several occasions to try to get over and use verbal persuasions to get over in me. He would say things like, you have to bare with me, this project costs me so much money. Or, there is nothing wrong with this deck, I do to ow why we need to replace it. Even though my deck is NOT UV protected and my dog burned his paws. Or that the decking boards are bending, peeling and buckling to the point that my granddaughter has fallen and scraped her chin area. I would never refer this company to anyone. The owner tries to be a verbal bully- because I'm a woman. He drags out the length of the projects and his employees craftsmanship is not satisfactory at all..... read more

The crew did a wonderful job to restore my house after my tenants left it a mess! I met the owner and he assured me that I would love it. i was hesitant at first and only agreed to painting. After i saw their wonderful work, i added the floors and bathroom; I was able to get top dollar. Thumbs up for my project. read more

I hired Kelvin Swinton of D-Sea Construction to do some small jobs at my daughter's condo in DC. His initial response was good, but then it went down hill. He was hired to install a bi-fold door on a laundry room closet, this job was done and done well, by a man who Kelvin brought to my daughter's condo. Kelvin left and offered no supervision for this worker. The worker then was to install new sliding doors to replace bi-fold doors on a closet. These doors were hung upside down! And they were NOT the 6 panel doors like the rest of the house. When Kelvin finally came back to pick up his worker and his check, he was shown the upside down doors and he said he would return in three days, after Easter, to fix them. He was a no show. After many phone calls and emails from my daughter and myself, he finally brought two more men to replace the doors and hang them right side up. Again, he was very late. These doors were painted the wrong color, even though my daughter had provided the correct paint, the paint to match the rest of the trim in the house. Kelvin's response, "I forgot you wanted it to match." Who does NOT want their doors to match the rest of the house? BUYER BEWARE...DO NOT HIRE KELVIN SWINTON of D-Sea Construction! read more

Let me start off saying if I could give them a lower rating I would. First of all D Sea Construction is not professional at all to say the least. Kelvin, the owner quotes and even wrote an contract only to later claim that most of the services are not inlcuded. Mind you I have the contract stating otherwise. All the while the work that is being done is not acceptable quality in the first place. Upon me complaining about this and other obvious issues, such as the time frame which went from two weeks to two months and they still where not done. The job only consisted of skimming and painting the entire house, removing carpet, replacing baseboards and updating some lighting fixtures. After me complaining he walks off the job all together leaving my house in a mess. I wouldn't recommend this company to anyone. Lousy workmanship, poor customer service or lack there of. All this goes without saying just stay away from D Sea Construction at all cost. He will take your money and not do the work and what work is done is shotty at best. read more
