We began our competitive journey last year, and my daughter absolutely loves it! Monika, the director is amazing! I highly recommend this studio, they have expanded the Tap programme now to the really young kiddos now too. Don't be afraid to chat with other parents there, we are all friendly! The studio has a great reputation, anytime we mention which studio we are with, people always say how amazing they are and how respect the dancers are...how we clap for everyone at competitions and congratulate other dancers. Anyways, wanted to leave this review because I noticed a negative one. Socialize with other parents, talk to the teachers etc....The cutest thing happened after my daughter did her first solo ever and in competition in March of this year, her entire team had run to watch her and then they came out and gave her a huge group hug when she finished!! This uptown boutique barre studio has been open a little under two months now, and as someone who…read moreheard about it through word of mouth, I REALLY like it. The space is clean, sleek and bright. There's a shower there, as well as some lockers to store your things. (And, if I understand correctly, there's a small childminding service available while you work out.) The owners - a husband-and-wife team - are great, too. They're super-friendly, and helpful if you've got questions. There are 7 types of barre/ballet classes (plus a ballet-fusion class for kids), and sessions are offered much most times of the day, every day of the week. The weekends *are* - understandably - busier than weekday mornings. (And I heard that classes were full throughout Easter weekend.) But as someone with an alternative schedule (I work weekends and am off weekdays), I like the fact it's *not* crowded early weekday mornings. The instructors (I've had classes with Marvin, Dave and Rochelle) - are great. They're super-helpful - talking you through/demonstrating exercises, and helping you to correct your body to feel the full effect of the exercises. (If you're an early riser, or attend a class that's sparsely attended, you might get more attentive instruction.) They're even there to answer questions about stretching, etc. For anyone unsure of which barre studio to choose (there are now two, with Barreworks opening its uptown location), I would invite anyone to try out a class or two at Barre Beautiful before deciding. This is not your grandmother's Zumba class! Great balance of cardio and strength, mix of styles from Latin to Bollywood to african to highland to anything you can think of. And so much fun! Even for a mature, graceless, sort of sedentary type like myself. Coming in at a close second is the trampoline classes (Google Fit and Jump, or look for them on Groupon). Thanks to being protected by the perimeter of your mini trampoline, you and your classmates are safe from my flailing arms and wonky rhythms. You will be amazed at how hard you work while feeling that schoolkid high of JUMPING! Another great full body workout. Both classes are very welcoming - doesn't matter who you are, you can do this. The burden is on the members to find a class to fulfill the membership so you will end up paying for classes that are not available, but the Underground Dance studio's position is that's your problem for not devoting more of your time towards planning dance classes far in advance and following waitlists. You are required to sign up for a recurring membership fee to take the trial. My daughter was not aware. After the trial her credit card was charged about $28 per week for several months without her taking one class. The Underground Dance studio raked in the fees with no classes taken. Remember, the business model is that it's your responsibility to fight your way into a class and the Studio has zero responsibility. It is predatory.
