They have a check in table when you walk in, get your heels (if you want), get changed and head over to the studio where there were plenty of poles for you to choose from. The entire experience and our instructor was amazing. It's something that none of us have ever done before so it was brand new to the entire party. The entire experience was fun but very hard, as some moves were difficult to do as a newbie. I love that they had spray bottles for each station so that you can wipe your pole before and after your lesson, since there was another group before us. The entire space is also covered with mirrors for you to check yourself out/ see if you're doing the moves properly. Overall, such a great experience and fun activity to do with friends! Highly recommend this for a bachelorette party!

Came here to attend one of the restorative yoga class in the smaller room across from the main studio. I can only comment on the facilities since the classes I attended is not one of the class on the regular schedule and the class was excellent! The room is really small and can only fit 5 student comfortably. I do like small class size but the floor is just really dirty and dusty. There are though enough props to go around. Noise level is quite high as it is facing Queen Street and you can even feel the vibration while lying on the floor if there is a "party" or a class going on next door. I though interest in one of their regular Pole Dancing Class, I definitely would try to come back to take one soon. Or maybe even organize a bachelorette or a divorce party here!

This was supposed to have been my child's third year attending summer camps at this studio. Their policy, as stated on the confirmation email I received on March 4, stated "Please note that no refunds are offered once the class has begun." Then COVID-19 hit. While other theatres and dance studios around the city moved their camps and classes online, or cancelled the altogether after consulting with the parents of the children enrolled, Joy of Dance chose to move forward with in-studio summer camps. I was notified of this 2 days before my child's camp was scheduled to start, in an email that also stated that no refunds would be issued after July 1, despite the email itself only being sent on July 9. The configuration of the class had also been changed from an aged 8-12 group to a 6-8 group. I was not comfortable sending my child to an indoor camp, with a younger cohort who was unlikely to be capable of physically distancing properly, while the city is still in a stage 2 pandemic lockdown. I communicated that I was not comfortable sending my child. While I was within my rights to ask for a refund according to their policy (the first policy, not the second one they made up after I had already enrolled and paid), in the spirit of supporting a small business through a difficult time I asked if they could consider a partial credit towards a future class instead. The manager, Jennifer, replied stating that she would not issue a refund. When I responded reminding her of her studio's refund policy, and that I was not actually asking for a refund but rather a partial credit, she ignored me. Joy of Dance sprung a modified camp on us that I did not feel comfortable with or agree to, with no alternatives. EVERY other summer camp my children have been involved with offered either a refund or credit. Not this one. They pulled a bait and switch, took my $400, and flat-out ignored my request for even a partial credit. Well, enjoy it Joy of Dance because it's the last money you will ever see from my family. Even though we live virtually across the street from your studio, I will now be taking my theatre and dance-loving child farther afield. I hope my $400 was worth it to you.

However, while the people were friendly, I found this studio to be a bit disorganized. a) The owner didn't know how much to charge me because I signed up through Meetup. She had to ask me how much the website said. b) The classes they were posted were not the ones offered. They alternated, so I was attending a class that I didn't really want to be in. However, the instructor was willing to change it. c) They said they had a big event the previous night, and we're still cleaning at 4 pm. Not very professional. There are better studios out there.

This uptown boutique barre studio has been open a little under two months now, and as someone who…read moreheard about it through word of mouth, I REALLY like it. The space is clean, sleek and bright. There's a shower there, as well as some lockers to store your things. (And, if I understand correctly, there's a small childminding service available while you work out.) The owners - a husband-and-wife team - are great, too. They're super-friendly, and helpful if you've got questions. There are 7 types of barre/ballet classes (plus a ballet-fusion class for kids), and sessions are offered much most times of the day, every day of the week. The weekends *are* - understandably - busier than weekday mornings. (And I heard that classes were full throughout Easter weekend.) But as someone with an alternative schedule (I work weekends and am off weekdays), I like the fact it's *not* crowded early weekday mornings. The instructors (I've had classes with Marvin, Dave and Rochelle) - are great. They're super-helpful - talking you through/demonstrating exercises, and helping you to correct your body to feel the full effect of the exercises. (If you're an early riser, or attend a class that's sparsely attended, you might get more attentive instruction.) They're even there to answer questions about stretching, etc. For anyone unsure of which barre studio to choose (there are now two, with Barreworks opening its uptown location), I would invite anyone to try out a class or two at Barre Beautiful before deciding. They will even dance with you at the socials to ensure that you're doing the moves correctly and, most importantly, having fun. I would have continued the classes except there are more females than males so the school asks level 2 and above males to come in and volunteer. Dancing with some of them that were only at level 2 was more of a hindrance because they barely knew the steps themselves. Also, some of the male participants really needed to practice personal hygiene. My biggest turnoff, however, was Roger (an instructor in training). He would get really impatient and even kind of rough with us. I basically refused to dance with him during the classes. He should NOT be teaching anything with his attitude - can't stand that guy. I was going to give it three stars but then I thought of how great Mark, Natalie and Natalie's husband were.

They usually hold…read moretheir classes at a Royal Canadian Legion, so while they don't necessarily have their own studio/facility, the Legion rooms are quite big and have different floors so they can accommodate multiple classes at the same time. Their specialties appear to be in the Latin styles (hence the name), which includes salsa, bachata and cha-cha but they also do tango and kizomba as well. I have also attended their monthly social which seemed to be around 60% salsa and 40% bachata and cover is usually $15, which includes lessons for beginner and intermediate dancers. Their socials are held at another Royal Canadian Legion which is located right next to the Long Branch GO station. The socials go on for 4-5 hours with about 15-20 minutes of performances by their students and some pro dancers. The dancers were really good. Most of the people attending the social/party were friendly and were there to dance and not too many players/flirtatious people. I find that certain places that offer "Latin" dancing are more club-like as opposed to just learning to dance and have fun. All in all, I thought the party/social was fun and members were friendly. Will probably go again and might take some classes here.

Love taking class here. This place is perfect for those who used to dance back in the day and still…read moremiss it! If you have taken a lot of dance in your youth, it can be tough to find the right fit amidst the whole ballet-fitness craze. There are a lot of adult beginner ballet classes out there (Extension Room actually offers some, so does the National Ballet School adult program, Dance Teq, City Dance Corps, InStudio) but if you have already done a lot of ballet before, the pace can be a bit slow/basic. Then there are intermediate ballet classes at serious ballet studios, but if you aren't dancing regularly anymore, it can be intimidating or too hard! Or the other students will all be really young! Finally, there are barre fitness studios like barre3, barreworks, barre beautiful, etc., which I enjoy for the workout, but they are not that "dance-y" if you are craving that. They are more like fitness classes that use the barre as a tool, but there isn't much choreography and most moves are done with feet in parallel, as opposed to proper ballet positions. Enter the Extension Room -- the barre 101 class is like a legit ballet barre but with weights for an added upper body challenge (think plies, tendus, degages, adage, grand battements in the same sequence one would expect from an "real" ballet class) and the allegro boot camp made me feel like I was really dancing for the first time in ages! I talked with some of the other students and many were like me, people who had studied dance recreationally and were looking for a way to keep dancing in an accessible and fun environment. It helps that all the instructors are/were dancers, often at major ballet/contemporary companies. Watching them demonstrate with beautiful technique is inspiring and they have good eyes for form and give useful corrections. I do think it would be really helpful to have some dance background for these classes, even though they are supposed to be for anyone. That being said, if you have no dance background at all, the barre 101 class is a good place to start (slower pace, barre helps with balance). I found the allegro bootcamp quite challenging (in a good way), and I think it would be hard to keep up for those less familiar with common ballet steps. It is also way harder to do certain steps without the support of the barre! I haven't tried their yoga, mat pilates, or bosu ball classes yet but it looks like there's quite a bit of variety in their schedule. Facilities are stunning and make it a pleasure to come here. High ceiling, chandeliers, nice sprung floors, etc. It's not a surprise that the space can be rented our for parties/weddings/corporate functions... I also like that they provide mats and weights, plus there are energy balls and juices/smoothies available for purchase. The change rooms have showers and small lockers. The location is a bit random, but actually easy to reach by the 504 streetcar and there is free street parking in the area too. Plus, for Yelper bonus points, it is in close proximity to a number of good snack/coffee spots like Roselle, Tandem Coffee, and Odin;) Very important!!

She has made my child cry before not even about something dance related. Also, the website lies. It has a picture that compares BDM to other dance studios that just irks me. It says, "hassle free recitals" vs. "expensive and unorganized." Their recitals are very expensive! You not only have to pay for the costumes, and the tickets but there are also these other fees for nothing. My guess is so they don't have to pay themselves to rent the school auditorium where the dancers perform. The recitals are also always disorganized, always running late (like everything) and they're always having difficulties during the recital. It says, "maximum 12 students" vs. "no limit... up to 30 or more." The reason they don't have 30 or more is because 30 kids wouldn't fit into their studios. My daughter had a class of 5 girls and it was cramped. They do have a bigger studio at the front, but I would say even that one fit only up to 10. So the 12 student limit is too much.. there's no way 12 kids could fit into one studio and DANCE. It says, "easy/convenient 24/7 online" vs. complicated, paper-based." It is actually almost impossible to reach the owner, if it's a problem she doesn't want to deal with. It says, "no commitment, quit anytime" vs. "large commitment and payment." This is the one that makes me the most angry. My daughter decided she didn't like a class she was taking and wanted to quit. The owner said that she had to tell her a month in advance! Well according to the website, you can quit anytime! She said she absolutely could not quit without a months notice. You could not show up to the class, but you still have to pay for a month, which is of course not cheap and quite a waste. She did give her the option of taking another class for that month, which was nice, but there wasn't another class she wanted to take, so she was stuck for four weeks. A few last things are that the classes often start late. And sometimes even end early. I understand the teachers need a break, but maybe that break should be scheduled instead of taking up the time that we have paid for. It's overall very unprofessional. The owner does not know how to run a business and is clearly does not know how to keep her customers happy. Huge waste. Please find another dance studio. I wouldn't even say it is worth if you lived next door to the place.

They have regular practice times at night where you can come with your partner and dance the night away. They are also very good with seasonal parties and showcases, food wine and drink included, to watch a great show and enjoy a night out of great dancing. The demographic is mostly asian, but all the teachers are russian/ukranian. As a younger dancer, I sometimes feel uncomfortable with the staring and judging from all the students whosit forever on the sidelines
