My landlord forwarded a Violation Notice he received pertaining to a poster I had placed in my rock area out front of the house we rent. It is a very positive sign concerning the issues with racism toward black people. Apparently one of the neighbors called and complained. The letter stated no signs (unless approved by the board) can be in common areas. I was perplexed, as there is a neighbor who has had a sign on his lawn for 3 months thanking first responders, and another sign at a common area asking people to pick up after their dogs. We have lived here almost 9 years, and I have frequently seen political signs on peoples lawns during elections. I did as I was asked, removed the sign from the location where I had placed it. I called the Elite Community Management office, Project Manager, Chris Hodge, today to ask him why I had to remove my sign when other people had signs on their property. He was the one who had sent the notice to my landlord. He immediately became very abrupt, and verbally upset. He told me I was just a renter and he only talks to owners. I asked if he thought I was a second class citizen because I am renting and am not the owner, that I simply wanted to know why I was told to remove the sign and others have not. He became more upset, said he doesn't know about the other signs, I advised him the one sign is at a home on the main road through our development, on the corner of our street. He became more upset, saying he did not drive that way (apparently he came into our development to verify I had the sign up), and an OWNER needs to write to him to complain about the sign for him to do anything about it. He ended up telling me he did not have to listen to me anymore and he was hanging up. All I could say was, "wow"!!!!! Have never been so quickly verbally attacked, not listened to, accused of saying things I did not say. I know all this Covid stuff has people a little tense, but this man was way past non-professional!!!!! I am just an old retired person who thought I was putting up a very nice sign about hearing the troubles of black people and supporting them. It was nice that two neighbors went out of their way to thank me for putting the sign up before I had to remove it. I did not intentionally break an HOA rule, actually did not even know I couldn't do it, as I stated many neighbors have had signs in their front yard areas over the years. Hope Mr. Hodge has a better day and doesn't talk to other people the way he talked to me. Am very glad I am a renter and not an owner who has to deal with him again!
I was going to delete my first 1 star review with the above rant from me, but decided to leave it. Mr Hodges contacted me today and apologized for his verbal behavior toward me yesterday. We ended up having a very nice conversation!!! Not many people see a need to apologize when they realize they have been wrong, thank you Mr. Hodges, you are human, but also very polite, and have good morals!!! Wish more were like you!! read more
