Great place for your yoga practice. They offer a ton of…read moremixed level classes. If you're a beginner, I would suggest basic beginners, gentle yoga, and either restorative or yin. If you're looking for a more of a challenge, or have some yoga knowledge of the asanas (what the poses are called in Sanskrit) then I would suggest either their vinyasa flow or hot yoga. Be warned hot yoga is called that for a reason, the room is heated to 95*. The heat of the room allows your muscles and tendons to open up, which allows for greater flexibility and movements. Being a advanced practitioner myself, with nearly a decade of practice. I tend to the more advance classes, and I've taken both the vinyasa and hot classes here at Santosha. I liked both classes but being a teacher myself, I find that my "attachments" get in the way...... If you've ever taken a class, it's likely you know what I'm taking about. What I think is great about this yoga studio is that they truly offer something for everybody- and I mean every BODY. People have this misconception and the stereotype yoga is only for the skinny, female, flexible types. But it's not true. Yoga is truly for every body type. You don't have to be flexible, be able to touch your toes or ever learn an arm balance or inversion (if you want to though, that's welcome!). Yoga is about being present. Letting go of the past and not worrying or obsessing over the future. Santosha is a very welcoming yoga studio. The teachers are patient, encouraging and knowledgeable in their specific classes. Like I said this yoga studio truly offers classes for every level of practitioners. From first timers, beginners to advance practitioners or even people with limited mobility or injuries (chair yoga offered!). There is a class for you. If you're looking to expand your yoga practice, they offer yoga teacher training here. Whether you just want to learn more about yoga- the history/lineage/8 limbs etc., take your practice deeper or if you're looking to become a teacher yourself. Then you could take YTT and get your 300/500 hours in. Drop in classes are $16, which is great. A lot of other studios these days are charging $20-$25 for 1 class. If you want to save even more money buy a pack of classes, or get an unlimited month or multiple month package. Be sure to bring everything your personal items- mat, water bottles and towels (for vinyasa and hot yoga), but know that they do provide props, should you need them. In a world where yoga studios are becoming a dime a dozen this one is definitely worth checking out. Namaste!

Set up like a home gym almost with a boxing bag, and mirrors , yogas stuff , HIIT workouts etc ; it's a studio room basically. So, I was like cool! I'm going to checkout next door, The Champion Boxing Gym. Well, first. I couldn't tell what was the primary sport of the gym was because there was a jujitsu class and kicking and boxing going on in the huge ring they have. The speed bags only have 2 that normal side humans would use and out of that 2 , 1 of the balls weren't blown up so I couldn't hit it. It was fairly crowed, not compared to the Health Club Side . It was fairly "dusty?" maybe, unlike the Health Club side. It was pretty tidy, and the embers cleaned up after themselves. Everyone seems busy so I didn't talk to anyone I don't know if that's the same building or not? They have an adjoining door. Also, the health club has a juice bar and a steam room and it's pretty neat I'd check it out

I was in town to help my younger brother through hospice and then plan his funeral. I went to this…read moregym, because it was near the hospital. I went in and told them (a) why I was in town and (b) told them that I am training for Arizona Raw Strength competition. I told them that I needed to deadlift in my bare feet. They told me "no problem" and acknowledged that that is a common request amongst powerlifters in training. I paid for four sessions in advance. Overall, the place had the equipment and was reasonably clean. The front desk staff seemed distracted and out-of-sorts most days. I show up for my first session, and the place is full of "gym bros" doing a million curls with tiny weights. They were vanity lifters with almost no appreciation for the discipline of real training. I had the heavy weights to myself. I trained. I left. The next two sessions were similar. I deadlifted with no shoes. I shouldn't have to explain why that is important to those who are serious lifters. I trained. I left. On the fourth visit, a lumbersexual appeared at my shoulder while I was finishing my deadlifts. He ordered me to put on shoes, because "lifting barefoot is unsanitary" and "makes the other members uncomfortable". He claimed to be the manager. I told him the truth. My brother died the day before. This was my final set on my final day in his gym. His tone softened a bit. I also explained that his front desk staff SPECIFICALLY told me that I could deadlift barefooted. Then, the lumbersexual got mad. He said, "I AM THE MANAGER. Whoever told you that was wrong." I told the guy to chill. I was leaving. No biggie. I entered and won my age/weight division in Arizona in June. My home gym in Tucson won its THIRD national championship IN A ROW. We have multiple world record holders. Look, I want to give people a break, especially after losing my brother, but, after waiting a few months, this experience really bothered me. The lumbersexual manager strikes me as a bully to his staff and a poor leader. Also, I don't think he knows a single thing about real strength training. Go here if you don't care about the staff and know what you need to do. If you need help or real training, go somewhere else. I think this place will get you hurt. This gym is like open water for beginning swimmers. Not good. Also, the men's locker room was an outdated pig sty. Which, of course, made me wonder why my barefoot training on the stall matts was "unsanitary"... Peace, STP

I did Blake's online training program. Blake is nice enough but can come off intimidating. As far…read moreas the training, in my case I was having a large amount of pain which turned out to be a herniated disc. Instead of Blake acknowledging he didn't have enough experience here (as he is not a physical therapist) to help me he proceeded to come up with solutions that made the pain worse. Long story short, I couldn't do do my exercises. Blake wouldn't check in and would say, "after paying this much people should do the program on their own." Which I guess is fair in some cases but my case was completely different. I had to put my program on hold because of the pain and ultimately had to have surgery. I wanted to go back and finished the program but I had to pay another $1400 to do so, even though I paid the full before. I would attempt to do the exercises the best I could. Long story short, my program ended and I never back from Blake. I didn't contact him either because after his comments it seemed liked he truly was only in it for money. Long story, don't waste your money. If you're in pain go see a physical therapist. You will get real help and insurance should cover it. To be fair, he did say he was not a physical therapist. My fault I fell for it.

With that said, I brought a living social deal for 2 weeks of boot camp classes. The class times on their website are wrong!!! I know they are trying to update that, but I live by the web. New times: Monday- 9am Tuesday- 6am and 9am Wednesday- 9am Thursday- 6am and 9am Friday- 6am and 9am Saturday- 8am Since I came during a time when they didn't offer a class, Justin was gracious enough to give me my own boot camp class. He was back on my good side, and it was a great workout. So the majority of people here are athletes (highschool, college, pro, etc). Now, I am no athlete. I run, yoga, and go to a zumba class here or there. But, I lack any type of upper body strength. I didn't know if I could make it through a boot camp class. With that said, if you lack any physical endurance- you should go to a planet fitness. But most of the people that attend boot camps are just average people that work out. They are the non super athletes. Based on Justin's passion for fitness and his athlete background, these boot-camp classes are like little mini-personal training sessions to push you that extra mile. There are a lot of modifications too. Even though they need to work out some organization kinks for this new place, You should just do a drop in and give it a try. Plus, I am a big advocate that he does a lot of local community/health and wellness activities for the city of Detroit. It's a great way to give back. Stop supporting that chain of a gym and hit this local place up!!!!
