If you're in So Cal and need diesel repairs, seek out Elite Auto & Fleet in Barstow. Yes, it a bit of a haul from LA or San Diego, but I recently burned up the alternator on my 2004 6.0-diesel Ford Excursion about 30 miles east of Barstow on my way to visit family in the LA area. Kevin (the shop owner) allowed me to drop my trailer in the parking lot just before he closed, got replacement parts first thing the next day and had it fixed, ready-to-go by noon on the Friday of a 3-day Holiday weekend!! He doesn't even open on the weekends, but he let me text him and opened the shop so that I could pick it up on Saturday (again...on a Holiday weekend). He specializes in diesel work, knows his stuff and his hourly rates were $50/hour cheaper than any diesel shops near my home in Denver! I've driven several thousand miles in the month since he did the work and took it to my local mechanic for an oil change, and everything is in perfect working order. If you need diesel work done in the So Cal area, this is the place...you won't regret it!! If I could afford it, I'd hire a skywriter to fly over So Cal promoting this business, that's how good of work they perform and how they take care of their customers...even out-of-towners like me that they may never see again. I may even stop by on my next trip to LA and have him do some front-end work that I've been planning. read more

If you ever need diesel or auto repair in Barstow, I highly recommend Elite Auto & Fleet at 801 W Main St. (760) 957-7735. We called at about 7:45 Monday morning and Kevin, the owner, was able to take our truck in right away. Our Ford diesel had a coolant leak, and after diagnosing the problem he carefully inspected the rest of the engine and discovered two additional hoses that were also failing. He ordered the correct parts from the Ford dealership and the staff at Elite Auto & Fleet took care of the parts installation. What really stood out was the customer service. Kevin personally drove us back to the KOA RV Park after we dropped the truck off, and then picked us up when the repair was finished. That kind of service is rare these days. Kevin is extremely knowledgeable about diesel engines, very personable, and clearly has his customers' best interests at heart. The price was very reasonable for diesel repair, and the work was completed quickly--we dropped the truck off Monday morning and were back on the road by about 10:00 AM Tuesday. I truly cannot say enough good things about the service we received. Absolutely no negatives. I was on a cross country road trip and 6 hours into my trip I started to hear a bumping and rattling noise under the center/passenger side of my Dodge 2500. The guys at Elite were able to take a look at it the next day, and found that the exhaust clamp was loose. They fixed it under 10 minutes and had me on my way! In 2018 they replaced my water pump and timing belt in my SUV. It started leaking again shortly after and they said it was due to a defective pump and had to put in a new one. Fast forward to today (11/2024) and it's leaking again, only 6yrs and less than 15,000 miles on the pump they put in and they won't do ANYTHING for me. They also seemed to have not kept record of this replacement so they conveniently can't verify miles. I maintain my vehicles and this isn't a daily driver so it should not have gone out in 6yrs and less than 15k miles. They were not helpful when I called either. read more

We were a couple of tired travelers having just made it across the East Cali desert on 120° summer day. We pulled off in Barstow to get fuel. The coolant dumped all over the asphalt. We knew we couldn't go any further. We were in a 1 ton diesel, not everybody works on those. I called four places and finally got a referral to Elite Auto and Fleet. I spoke to Kevin there and he said yes, we can fix that, but we don't have any openings until tomorrow morning. We asked him to put us on the schedule. We knew we didn't have any other options. About a half an hour later he called and said he could see us at 2 PM. We were overjoyed. He diagnosed the problem, ordered the parts and had us back on the road by 4:30 PM the same day! He said he thought about our predicament and knew exactly how we felt. He really did us a turn by squeezing us in. I cannot recommend this auto shop highly enough! read more

What wonderful luck to find Elite Auto and Fleet. Traveling from Southern Utah to San Diego my alternator went bad 30 miles North of Barstow. With every passing minute I feared my battery would run cold and I would be stranded on the side of the freeway. A quick search directed me to a Barstow shop that turned out to be out of business. Traveling down Main Street I found Elite. Kevin was able to replace my alternator and get me back on the road in just over an hour dispite getting a bad alternator from Napa and having to find another. Service was top notch! Let me start of with and emphasize This is probably the best experience I've had with any repair facility. So far from home and my buddies vintage Land Cruiser decides to snap a belt. Immediately we overheat and pull over to the side of Highway 58. After a quick inspection I found the alternator belt broke, causing the water pump, fan and alternator inoperable, and causing the overheating of the engine. We call AAA and have the vehicle towed to the shop , Kevin greets us and asks a few questions, and confirms for himself what needed to be done. He confirmed the broken belt and personally gets a replacement from the local parts supplier. He gets the belts on and continues to do his after repair checks, he tops off the coolant does a pressure check and tops off the engine oil. Everything is working as it should. We're back on the road and still on schedule for Overland West 2018. Just to summarize, I'm an automotive technician by trade, so to see another shop do honest, professional and skilled work like I do is such a relief and joy. Having been a shop foreman for over 15 years, I can truly say if you're ever in need of automotive repair in or around Barstow, that this is where you want it done and done right. read more

Our turbo boot on our 2012 F250 blew apart. My husband called Elite Auto & Fleet (talked to Kevin) and they were closing soon but suggested having us towed to his lot by ARC Towing (fantastic themselves). Kevin looked at our truck the next morning and we had to have the part shipped from Pennsylvania. Lost a wheel hub on a trailer 60 mile out from Barstow. Went to local auto parts stores for parts. Couldn't find the axle nut. Thankfully I found this shop. I couldn't say enough good things about this shop. My partner and I moved from Missouri to LA. His car broke down about 45 miles from Barstow in the middle of the desert. We called the shop and not only would they check the car out same day, they honored the factory warranty for the faulty part that caused the breakdown. We got there about 10 minutes before they closed and they still took time to talk to us. They were incredibly friendly, welcoming, and helpful. They were able to order and install the parts in the two days right before a holiday weekend even though they were incredibly busy. These guys are lifesavers. We called around to many different shops we were traveling through and our a.c. went out we had our dog with us and she was overheating so we needed it repaired fast, the shops owner told us bring it in, we arive and the customer service was great he let us bring our dog in and wait in the nice air conditions lobby. Bathroom was very clean, he got our a.c. up and running in no time with out charging is for a emergency appointment. My husband brother and I were very impressed with the service we received here. My car broke down on a weekend last month in Barstow during the infamous LV to LA drive down the 15. I had to go back up to Barstow from LA to deal with it, and feel lucky that the tow truck driver recommended taking it to Kevin at Elite Auto. Kevin understood I was far from home and wanted to get back to LA ASAP, and promised to look at it immediately, which he did. He suggested a lunch place (Lola's Kitchen, great food!) for me and my mom and said he'd call as soon as he knew anything. He took half the time he thought to diagnose the issue, and then did the repairs immediately, and took 15 minutes less than his estimated repair time. We were back on the road heading home about 90 minutes after showing up at his shop. I was amazed at the level of service he gave to a new, likely one-time customer. You are lucky if you break down near these guys. Trying to get home in newly purchased but used RV my alternator died. They knew who could tow me in and waited for us to get there so the part could be ordered before they went home - and thus avail at 8am the next day. Hooked us up to their internet and offered electric plug in for our stay in their parking lot. Had us on the road by 9am after suggesting other problems to look out for once I got home to my mechanic. And, not fer nothing, cleanest restroom i've ever been in. I ended up at this mechanic shop on my way from Las Vegas to sandiego. I was originally at the Midas across the street and although the staff was super friendly there, I was put on a 4hour wait to even get my car looked at to see what the problem was. I had my three year old son with me and I could not wait that long. I was referred to elite by another mechanic I called in town to try to get a more timely appointment and I'm so happy I was. Elite was able to get me in right away and did not make me feel as if I was being sold on a service I did not need like the people at Midas. My car was up and running again within an hour. My only disappointment is that I don't have this mechanic in Las Vegas. I loved this place and would recommend it to everyone read more

Female, alone on a desert highway with a broken vehicle is not where you hope to find yourself -- only 4 hours left to go of my very relaxing vacation to AZ when my car made noises you never want to hear -- and then chugged and choked as it rolled onto the hwy pull off. But my luck turned and I was put at ease when towed to this shop in Barstow - I knew right away I was in good hands. Their schedule was full the next few days but they squeezed me in to get me back on the road as soon as possible. These guys are the real deal -- honest, very competent and kind.
