    The Rundown: local used appliance store with a friendly team, but requires followup…read more The Review: first impression stepping in was wow, quite the selection. If you're seeking an appliance, they probably got it, from residential items to commercial. Prices can feel a bit high for used items, but I recognize this is a local business and let's face it things are definitely more expensive nowadays. The team was very friendly- I needed assistance with a coin op washer we had purchased. They helped me troubleshoot and provided advice. Where things kind of fell down was followup was clearly not an importance. After troubleshooting I wanted to purchase a spare part which had to be ordered. Gave my info, was told would take a few weeks. Few weeks, nothing. Followed up after hearing no response and still nothing. While the crew was very friendly unfortunately the after service appears to be spotty - whether the smaller purchase just wasn't worth their time or what I do not know. So just be prepared to make sure very clear on time lines and expectations.

    UPDATE ON FREEZER May 12, 2026 My 1st review was written on…read moreNov 6, 2025 for a freezer that stopped working. Private Appliance FINALLY took the freezer to their shop, about a week after I posted that review, and after their 'diagnosis' they said they would need to replace the compressor at no charge to us. That seemed fair. So we waited...and waited...two weeks went by and after my husband called to find out the status, they said they replaced the compressor & scheduled a time to deliver it to our home. There would be no charge for the new compressor. The day came & went, there was no freezer delivered nor was there a phone call explaining why. We rescheduled another date for delivery and eventually got our freezer back (with the new compressor). It is interesting to note that the freezer was now missing 2 of the 4 internal shelves and Private Appliance said that yes, they had the shelve, forgot to put them back into the freeze and we could come get them AND PAY $150 for labor for swapping out the old compressor (what happened to the warranty coverage and "no fee"?). We decided to jury-rig some shelves in the freezer ourselves. Fast forward to today, 5 months later...after being away for a couple weeks we came home to a freezer full of thawed, rancid food...steaks, roasts, soups, sauces, shrimp, salmon...ALL THAWED and spoiled! We contacted a different appliance repair company & they sent someone out the very next day. After diagnosing the freezer on site, they determined that the compressor was NEVER replaced and was only filled with coolant, which apparently leaked out. The repair person explained how he could determine that the compressor was the original factory-installed one & could see where the coolant was put into the system. To say that were were scammed is an understatement. We will never step foot into Private Appliance again. Stay away from them. Spend a little extra money on an appliance. They are not trust-worthy, they have terrible customer service, they lie, they are unprofessional and should not be in business! Nov 6, 2025 Private Appliance of Johnston is not honoring the 1 year warranty on an appliance we purchased last year, a large standup - freezer November, 21, 2024. They indicated the appliance was NEW (why were the shelving racks dirty with what looked like food?). We have a written, one year warranty (parts and labor included) noted on the bill of sale to repair if the freezer fails. Private Appliance claimed we purchased it in Sept of 2024 & it was out of warranty, but when I sent them my bill of sale that is clearly dated Nov 21st, they had no recourse. As of mid Sept, 2025, the freezer stopped working and because we didn't know it stopped working right away, we lost a lot of food. Their repair person came to look at it once and indicated it might be the compressor, but could not fix it on-site. It would need to be taken away to their shop. After not hearing from the company, I once again called to find out when someone would come to my house to take the freezer back to their shop for repair. A pickup date was agreed upon but no one showed up. I had to call again to set up another pickup date...and the same thing happened. Then, they started NOT taking my calls. We have been communicating poorly since September of this year when malfunction first reported, in that they have not taken my calls and have not called me back more times than I can remember. I finally drove there to talk with them in person to resolve this matter and find out WHEN they would come take the freezer and repair it. They were supposed to come get it yesterday, and no phone call and no show. They have scheduled at least 4 times to pick up the freeze for repair and never showed and never called. I am concerned this will go on till after 11/21/25 and they will claim the freezer is out of warranty. We have just contacted Better Business Bureau to file a complaint and TurnTo10 for help!
