Stowell Learning Center - Brain training is fun and improves auditory and visual processing, speed, memory, and thinking

Our son went through the program about 3 years ago. It has had a profound effect on not only his…read moreschooling and grades, but his confidence and overall wellbeing. He struggled a lot in elementary school. We knew he was a bright kid but he just could not retain what was taught in school and was far behind in writing and reading and math. We would try help with homework and organization, but he always struggled to the point of crying and worse, would call himself dumb and stupid. His teachers noticed as well; an intervention process was started at his public school 3 (Three!) different times in different grades, only to be abandoned because he was just barely getting by "enough". Fast forward to middle school. The problems were getting worse as the classes became more complex. We had to do something and found Stowell. They explain what they are doing, you are frequently invited in to watch the sessions and also to have progress meetings with the director, but it still seems unlike any other type of learning program or tutoring I had ever heard of. Instead of tutoring, It's more like they are working on this very foundational level of how the brain processes information. (That's my explanation, may not be exactly right). Whatever it is, it works. My son is now in high school, takes honors and AP classes. makes honor roll, and is seriously starting to think about college, and set personal goals on how to get into the schools. He is organized and self directed. It is such a profound change; it is remarkable. This was not just "getting older" and maturing. There was a marked change about halfway through the Stowell program which continued and has stayed with him. We are so thankful to the program and his clinicians and director, who were all very warm, caring, and fun. I would highly highly recommend Stowell if your child is struggling in school and you can't find the right type of help.

So, she has an exceptional understanding of the ins and outs of educational services and therapies that may be best for your child. She also has a unique ability to connect with parents and ease their anxieties about the daunting journey of understanding the IEP process. She holds your hand through the process and has an uncanny ability to hold space for your worries, while gently assuring you of the right strategy/steps forward on how to proceed with your child's school. Her rates are beyond reasonable for the degree of professionalism, insight, and experience she has regarding how best to navigate schools. Not only is she a seasoned and passionate educator-she is a parent of 3 beautiful children who each have an IEP. So, she understands the special needs parenting journey from the inside out. Immediately after our consultation, she wrote me an organized, clear email of our next steps with helpful tips on how to communicate with the school for an important meeting the next day. I spoke to many advocates and Angie strikes the right chord of seeking collaboration and knowing which battles to fight, when, and how to bring people to the table in what is sometimes a contentious dynamic in an IEP team. The IEP can feel so intimidating and overwhelming. You want what's best for your child, and you may feel at a loss on where to start. Or, like us-you may have reached a crossroads and need some expertise to help guide you through the landmines of the IEP process or to your input at the IEP table with someone more agile with this type of complex, loaded communication. I can't thank Angie enough for being so flexible, accommodating, and responsive. She's organized, strategic, insightful, and experienced. Call her!
