Was told that my 5 year old was too old for that class so he needed to attend class on a different day and time. Not ideal for a working mom but hey, not the end of the world! He came in for the 5-8 year old class and after the class ended, the instructor told us that he wasn't going to learn anything in her class and it's pointless for him to be there. Not sure what kind of teacher would ever say such a thing but especially since my 5 year old has been speaking Spanish and English since he learned to talk. Andie, the owner of Tribú, told me that if we put him in a French class at his age, he will soak it up like a sponge, especially if he is already bilingual. So back to picking him up and feeling confused about how a teacher can make an assessment that it's pointless for him to be there and convinced he won't learn, especially after he's only been to one class --- but I figured I could speak to the owner and get more information. What I come to learn is that the class is comprised entirely of 8 year olds! After being told he couldn't join his brother in the younger kids class - which would have worked better for our schedule, as I originally inquired about, I asked if there was another class we could try and never heard back. Not sure what's going on but I feel sad and doubtful this is a nurturing environment for learning based purely on the teacher and owner. PS when I asked my five year old what he learned in French the next day, he told me something in French!

Our 4 year old loves this school. Ms. Gina is amazing and truly nurtures the kids--so much fun and…read morelearning.

My daughter attended a year of once a week pre-K at Thousand Oaks Chinese School with Olivia. It…read morewas the best Mandarin class for young kids (5 or younger) that I had experienced, and I have seen quite a few in my journey with 2 kids. Note that her Mommy and me class is likely quite different in setup from the pre-K class I experienced, so please do keep that in mind. Olivia set developmentally appropriate expectations such as very short "sitting down" sessions, and lots of hands-on activities with craft and music. She set basic ground rules, like taking turns to speak, but at the same time could gently but firmly re-direct rule breaking and knew when to ask TA or parent help with kids that needed individual attention without jeopardizing the lesson with the rest of the kids (the pre-K class was 15-20 kids). She used the pictorial nature of the Mandarin radicals/characters and introduced the class to over 100 in ~30 weeks. My daughter retains over 50 characters a year later but alot of it depends on consistent usage after they are taught. Note the class did not have quizzes or testing, hence review was entirely dependent on parent motivation. We probably reviewed class material 2 times a week (5-15 mins). Olivia knew how to hold the children's attention and had excellent rapport with the kids. The ability to make storytime interesting in another language is critical as it is easy for kids to tune out when it is a language they do not know. The class consisted of a mix of students with differing levels of Mandarin exposure (from zero to 100%), and Olivia was able to balance that and reach the students who were tuning out. She provided some English instruction especially when dealing with a child with less Mandarin understanding. A year later my daughter still runs up to her to say hello when they meet in passing. I especially appreciated that Olivia included activities that required all students to speak. They worked on introducing themselves, and talking about their favorite food and their family. This might be less of an issue in a small group toddler setting but is a common problem in the typical Chinese schools with class sizes greater than 15. My kids have a strong preference for their primary English language and without encouragement to speak they might go through the whole class without speaking a word of Mandarin. My husband who does not speak Mandarin found sitting in the class with our daughter to be fun and they would review the characters or phrases learned in class together. I wished her Mommy and me class was available when my kids were younger, as I would have been the 1st to signup! The earlier you start in the 2nd language journey the more easily they absorb which sets the base for success in the later years. I have added some photos of materials used because that's all I have now, but it's only a small subset of interactive activities she provided.

Our family has been at Carden Conejo for the last 5 years with our two kids having attended grades…read morepreschool through 4th grade so far. It is academically rigorous in all subjects, being one of the best in our area. Our specialists are also excellent: our kids have been able to do PE almost daily, the specialist classes (art, science, music, French, computers) all at least once or twice a week. Starting in kindergarten, the kids move with their classmates from their homeroom to the different dedicated specialist classes multiple times a day, which I think is a very mature thing to be able to do in kindergarten. They do public speaking at their weekly school assemblies multiple times a month, which I think is very special about this school. Best of all, they emphasize manners and morals which encourage human virtues, but also things like looking an adult in the eyes when saying good morning or when being spoken to, and holding the door open for an adult so that he/she can pass through first. Things that I feel our kids in the recent digital world do not really learn anymore, but will help them be successful in their workplaces (and families) in the future. Compared to other private schools in the area, tuition is more affordable, and yet the teachers offer academic support after school for kids to need it for free (although I think they should be paid extra for it). Although academically rigorous, our kids also have so much fun at school. Holidays are so fun. They have a huge fall festival at Halloween with carnival games, food trucks, trunk or treat. They also have a big festive winter holiday show, egg hunts for Easter, class parties, and a big family picnic on campus at the end of the year. They have tons of after school enrichment classes and Funtastic Friday nights where the kids can come and play in the evenings while parents get a night out. Summer camps are also very thoughtful and engaging. A favorite week is themed after the book Roxaboxen where they create their own shops and barter goods with "gems" as currency. We have loved every teacher we have had through the years. Everyone knows your child's name and each teacher invests in their students. One of my children had a little embarrassing accident at school and her 1st grade teacher handled it with such respect and tact - she treated her like she would want her own daughter treated. I think it would be hard to find a school with teachers and staff who are this invested in their students.

We recently moved back to the area after losing our home in the Palisades fire, and as we begin rebuilding our lives, finding the right schools for our children has been a top priority. Unfortunately, our recent visit to Carden was deeply disappointing -- and, frankly, a bit heartbreaking. We toured the TK classroom and were shocked to see 4- and 5-year-olds sitting in individual desks, facing forward like high schoolers. We were told they sit through 45-minute to one-hour lectures before getting a short play break, and then return for more lecture. The head of school cheerfully described the philosophy as "work hard, play hard" -- but to us, it felt like a fundamental misunderstanding of early childhood development. These are babies. They should be learning through play, exploration, movement, and connection -- not being treated like mini-adults. Even more unsettling was the demeanor of the TK teacher we observed. We walked in during a lesson and were struck by how cold and disengaged she seemed. There was no warmth, no joy -- just a rigid, joyless atmosphere that felt completely out of sync with what 4- and 5-year-olds need. The first-grade classroom didn't offer much reassurance. It felt similarly cold and overly academic, with little room for the individual child behind the academic expectations. We believe deeply in strong academics -- but not at the expense of age-appropriate, heart-centered, joyful learning. Our children deserve both. We've toured some of the best schools in LA, and we know what exceptional education looks and feels like. Ascension Lutheran, where our younger children now attend, and Oaks Christian, where our older daughter is enrolled, are both phenomenal. They blend academic excellence with warmth, empathy, and a deep understanding of child development. I know some families love Carden Conejo, and perhaps their experience has been different. But ours was disturbing enough that we couldn't get out of there fast enough. I share this not out of bitterness, but out of deep concern and care for other families searching for the right fit. If you're looking for a nurturing, academically strong environment that respects the emotional and developmental needs of your child, I'd encourage you to visit Ascension or Oaks -- they've been a true blessing in our journey.

After I did the tour wd Ms. Amanda, we were all in. My daughter loves Ms. Rajani, Ms. Amanda, Ms. Elma and she still talks about them even though she's attending TK now at a public school. My daughter not only learnt her letters and numbers but also how to be kind and respectful, how to help around the house as well as a little Spanish and Mandarin. We have built life long friendships with other parents(and teachers) and I can't wait to send my twin girls as soon as they are old enough to join the school.

If you are looking for a preschool where the teachers care and they all feel like family, this place is it! The location is excellent and they have a wonderful outdoor play area so our children get exposed to the outdoors and are not sitting inside all day. It's also easy to get to since it is near the 23 freeway and sunset hills. It's easy to get back on the freeway to/from work. We are so glad this place exists and feel so lucky to send our daughter here. I strongly recommend this place for preschool!! It is the best in the area.

I recently enrolled at Conejo Valley adult education for a certificate program for office manager in order to get back up to speed in order to support myself after my divorce is final. It is a scary time... but fortunately for me, Chris Wilson has been my teacher for the first two classes in my certificate program. He is so thorough and makes sure every student knows what they are doing. I suddenly feel empowered. Because I am not just going through the motions. I am re-learning what I knew so long ago after many years. The class projects that he gives us proves to me that I actually know what he's teaching. I did not think I would be able to get back what I have lost. It is apparent that Mr. Wilson loves his job and he truly is rooting for his students and is willing to help them however he can. I recently had an early meeting with my attorney during class hours which I could not change. So I ended up being over an hour late for class. He was so accommodating and came to me during class break and caught me up on everything that the rest of the class had gone over that morning. Mr. Wilson has been my instructor for the first two classes for my certificate program. I can only hope that as I move forward, any other instructor that I encounter at the Conejo Valley adult school will be as knowledgeable, enthusiastic and patient as he has been with the entire class.
