Dr. Skanchy was the first stop on my list of possibilities and after meeting with him, as well as his amazing staff, I wasn't impressed with any other practice! The receptionists are always friendly, helpful and organized. I've dealt with the finance department a few times now. The first when we crunched the original numbers for treatment (before I committed to them). Next- when we signed the contract and agreement and paid, then once again when we had an insurance change about a year into the treatment. It has truly been a pleasure dealing with all of the amazing ladies who work for the Doctor, even the billing department! I say women simply because I've yet to see male employees around the office. The office is always super clean, has ample seating in the lobby, a beautiful aquarium, video games for the kiddos or whomever, and the usual, tv and magazines, etc. Unlike many orthodontist and even dentist offices I have seen, this one is definitely a lot more private! Usually, you will see rows and rows of chairs lined up, so all the patients are in one big room. At Dr. Skanchy's practice, they have separate and individual sections, kind of like rooms where the work is done. I always prefer this type of set up, as I feel it's more personal, less distracting and simply more professional. When we've had emergency situations come up, such as a wire coming off a bracket, etc. they're always quick to get us in, often the same day. They are pretty accommodating to schedules, my only gripe, is the doctor isn't in the office on Friday. However, you can still get some things taken care of, so it's usually not an issue. They aren't overpriced like some of the other practices I met with, yet, they offer better service. Dr. Skanchy is super friendly too, I always enjoy chatting with him, he's very thorough, as well. The office also offers a discount, 10%, if you're paying the total amount up front (cash), so you can save quite a bit of money with this option. We've been coming here for over a year and I'm still always impressed with their genuinity, friendliness, professionalism, and convenience. I look forward to continue working with these wonderful people!

Dr Richards was knowledgable, and explained his plan of action fully to both myself and my daughters. We only had a year in Utah, and he did amazing work in a short time. My daughters will both need to continue orthodontia, but their smiles are so much different! His office was great: video games while you wait, a Birthday wheel to spin for prizes, iPads to play games on if you had to wait at your chair, "smile miles" to collect for prizes, and the tasty slushies. We rarely had to wait more than 5 minutes after arrival for an appointment. Sometimes there were waits while in the chair for final checks by Dr Richards, but it never was unreasonable. His staff seems to genuinely enjoy working there. We were always able to get an appointment when we needed it. They were willing to work with me on a payment plan and did all the paperwork with our insurance. Overall, this is one of the best places for orthodontics in SLC!

They basically asked, "What kind of treatment do you want? Upper and lower braces?" (Ummmm....aren't you the experts?) Then another person said (without asking), "You were frustrated with your previous Orthodontist or else you wouldn't be here." (Ummmm...maybe because I liked the initial consultation and you're closer?) It was like an interrogation, and I couldn't help but leave their office. I was made to feel like I should be grateful to be a potential patient in their office. No way--I can find competent orthodontists elsewhere!

My hygienist was very kind and accommodating. I waited 30 minutes before being seen which she apologized for and gave me a $5 gift card to Starbucks which is nice (but speaks to the high cost of operating this place). She seemed to listen and did a good job cleaning my teeth. 2 stars is for her. My dentist smelled of private equity and a complete disinterest in people he doesn't relate to. He recommended up-charged toothpaste, and up-charged filling material after explaining basic dental hygiene before asking about my existing habits. Then gave a treatment plan with high cost and high urgency. I received a second opinion from a lower-overhead dentist who had practical equipment and no comfort menu or drinks to speak of, but the same service was offered at a much more affordable price and much of what was itemized by Holladay was included in the overall cost from a well-regarded dentist in the area. My personal cost-incurred was around 1/4 of what Holladay quoted. He knew he could have come in at 7/8 of Holladay's cost and would have won my business but he charged for what I needed and committed to monitoring the rest as they were not of immediate importance. If you drive a Range Rover, require luxury in everything you do, and enjoy lighting money on fire, I'd recommend Holladay. If you drive a Toyota, require practical, affordable dental care from someone who takes pride in providing to the majority of the population without the frills, I'd look elsewhere.
