It's open for lunch most days and less busy during the day. The menu is fairly varied with a big selection of cold and hot starters, fish, gyros and other greek specialities. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. They have a selection of drinks including greek beer and, some greek wine. We shared a cold Mezze plate and it had a nice selection of dips, calamari salad and beans. All of these tasted quite nice and I really liked it. For main I had grilled calamari which was delicious although, it had a bit too much olive oil used. The flavour was great and I enjoyed the tender calamari. I also tasted the octopus and it was also amazingly tender. I would happily come back here again and try a few more dishes. Food is good and reasonably priced and the service is very friendly.

We wanted to order the combo platter people rave about but couldn't translate the menu. But I am VERY happy with our selections because they were awesome! For our entrees, we ordered the baby calamari and the octopus. SO GOOD! Seriously the best I've ever had! The pita was also excellent. At the end of our meal, they brought out two shots of something... (we didn't drink it, but this is tradition in Germany, I believe). The host was even nice enough to call us a cab after we ate. Things to know: This place fills up fast so make sure you show up early! The staff doesn't speak much English, so try to know some menu-basics. They only take cash so be prepared. People tip in Germany! Don't be deterred - this place is WORTH IT. I hope I have time to go back before I leave Munich!

I have never been partial…read moreto Greek cuisine in the USA with its emphasis on Souvlaki, stuffed grape leaves, and Retsina wine. But apparently, I've been missing out as exemplified by my recent experience at Restaurant Athene. I was served by Billy (Vasilis) and I told him that I loved calamari and rack of lamb but was torn as to which one to order. So, he had the flexibility to put together a "surf and turf" of three lamb chops with four baby calamari. All were cooked to perfection and were paired with three glasses of Greek wine. With Billy's guidance, for the calamari, I had a chose a dry white (blend of Assyrtiko, Chardonnay, & Malagousia). For the medium-rare lamb (which was melt-in-your-mouth tender), I started with a rich and delicious red blend (Cab, Syrah, and Xinomavro) and then switched to a beautiful, smooth Merlot (Papagiannakos) when I started to get full. All three were from the 2018 vintage and were clearly aged and superb. I am not a dessert eater, so I ended with a delicious shot of ouzo, compliments of Billy. I have one more week in Munich and I will absolutely return with my German friends. Skillfully managed by Sotiris, the establishment is clearly dedicated to superb cuisine and friendly, intelligent service. Don't miss it.

We went again tonight, 10/22/18, for our daughter's birthday dinner. Service and food were at the quality expected but the bill came with a surprise. It stated in print; "SERVICE NOT INCLUDED," a statement that is nowhere to be found on the menu. It is our custom to leave a small amount of cash as "Trinkgelt" but service is an entirely different matter. We put down 5% at which point the waiter pointed out that it was inadequate because service was not included. We spoke to the tall "manager" up front, pointing out that service is always included in German restaurant prices. He stated that that was the case in "German" restaurants but not in any "Greek" restaurant in Munich that he knew of -- a clear lie. We have recommended this place to many of our Munich friends in the past, but needless to say, we will never return to Thalassa and will inform our friends of our experience. Our neighbor, a policewoman by profession, shares our suspicion that speaking English targeted us for discriminatory (and perhaps illegal) treatment.
