City doesn't at all, In Shape does, Planet does if you have a Black Level membership). 4) they actually use the annual membership fee to make improvements to the club (City just pockets it to their bottom line. city hasn't bought any new equipment since they opened in 2020). 5) they have a turf area that anyone can use with plenty of an wheels, foam rollers and an adequate number of mats and kettle balls. Factors that stop me from giving them 5 stars... it's VERY busy during rush hour (Monday-Thursday). Weekends are reasonable. There's too many folks filming and trying to be fitness influencers. The Zumba class music is too loud and with the door open (just like City Sports), but to be fair, the manager has tried to fix this. If cardio equipment is important to you, City Sports & Planet have a lot more.

Let's start with the pros. PROS: super reasonable pricing, especially for everything you get. Friendly & helpful staff. Love that they have a turf area as well as a studio/ mirrored area for classes, and it's good extra floor space when classes aren't in session. Nice that they have a sauna, red light therapy, tanning booth, hydromassage, and IN Body scan available. Good range of equipment/ plate loaded machines, squat racks, cardio machines, TRX, you name it. CONS: Here's what's making me reconsider my membership... the bathroom cleanliness is pretty unbearable. It's always been pretty dirty but I've been able to suck it up and tolerate it. Within the past month, I've started to notice black mold in the showers (unmistakably- it's fuzzy and everything), moldy and smelly shower curtains, wads of hair that don't get moved for weeks (indicating they're clearly not cleaning), and yesterday there were little black bugs on the shower floors that sort of looked like small black silverfish? The mats outside of the showers finally got cleaned a couple months ago, but they're starting to get that soapy/ moldy build up again. The sauna floor is extremely dirty as well and I'm not sure how often they clean it... makes me worry what we're breathing in. They also don't have any recycling bins despite California law and all of the cans and plastic they accumulate. :( These concerns have been brought up internally numerous times by many members of the gym and nothing seems to be improving. I'm super bummed because I otherwise love the gym, but I just need to keep my health and safety in mind. I shower here every morning before work and I don't want to be breathing in black mold... Hope they do something soon- it's a serious health code violation at this point.

In my personal experience I came to Newton's easily labeled a broken man. Middle aged, over weight, unhappy with myself to put it mildly. I signed up scared of change, but hoping for just that. To say my expectations have been far exceeded is an understatement. Without getting sappy, what this gym provides completely changed my life for the better. If you're starting from the bottom (like me) or just looking for something new I can not recommend any gym more highly. Every workout brings a variety of new challenges, keeping it fresh and never boring. Do yourself a favor!

However, there are no appointments available. For this month or ANY future months! Beyond this, part of their ' improvements' included removing the only machine that can be used for lifting heavy weights for glutes. I hope management sees this and can explain the logic in removing the only machine available to build strong glutes, which inform so many other functional areas of our mobility. Please explain how this is an improvement!

It was a while after they reopened that I started going again. Now I'm going pretty regularly. The club seems clean (except for the bathroom). They have shifted equipment around to make wider spaces for people to stretch out. The new set up doesn't feel as crowded. They did removed the laying leg curl for the hamstrings that I wish they would return. Now they just have two of the same hamstring machines. They have about 40 treadmills, which are hardly ever full. They did buy new stretching equipment and an all purpose machine, both of which are nice. The gym is not normally crowded when I go.
