Love this office! Dr. Brotzman is amazing. She was quick, professional, super friendly. The staff was all amazing and the facility was super clean. Terrible, had some cancerous skin places identified and had one removed and had appointment for the other and had to cancel. Office staff arguing if I left cancellation message in which I did . The people who work at the front desk are very kind and sweet. They were able to fit me in pretty quickly for a much needed appointment. I had an inflamed cyst that I needed someone to check. I had gotten a lot of conflicting advice before my appointment and was hoping a doctor could sort things out for me. The day of my appointment, it was very easy to find this office. The entire space is dedicated to Elevate Dermatology. There was free parking all around. They had two separate buildings so make sure to check-in to the correct one. I was checked in pretty quickly and called back fast. The wait time wasn't bad. A nurse asked me all about the cyst and the basic questions before the doctor came in. I had an appointment with Dr. Wehausen. I'm not sure if there is just a huge demand for dermatologists, but I felt like she had one foot out the door the entire time. I was grateful she answered all my questions (and there were a lot), but I couldn't help but feel I was inconveniencing her. I was also surprised to hear that we didn't need a follow up appointment. Without getting way into it, I originally denied an incision and drainage (something Dr. Wehausen recommended) during that appointment. Within 10 minutes of leaving, I went back to book an incision and drainage appointment and was told to just take the medication. The antibiotics were for bacteria, something I didn't know if I had or not. I felt frustrated that there was conflicting information. I came here because a friend recommended Dr. Bukoski, but needed the first available appointment. They were able to answer all my questions, but I resolved my problem at a different dermatologist office. read more

This company will charge you more than needed for a standard visit, then they will take years to refund you the money back. I am still waiting for $100 that was overcharged from Nov 2024. Every time I email, call, they claim they changed systems and are manually reviewing and will get to my refund eventually. They had to change names of the company due to the terrible reviews prior to them moving to Elevate. Its honestly sad, because the Doctors are so nice, but their accounting team is horrific. read more

I had my first ever dermatology visit. I was a few minutes early and breezed right through the check in process. The wait in the lobby was 2 minutes. The wait in the waiting room was a bit longer, but Dr. Bukowski (same name as one of the world's greatest poets, so I won't forget that) apologized and said that some of the earlier patients needed a little extra time. That was cool, because so did I. I don't have health issues or skin issues EVER, so I had questions. I left feeling that I understood my options and that I was heard and respected. Many medical professionals act like THEY are the expert on YOUR health and your life. I didn't feel that way at all with Dr. Bukowski. So, despite it being unpleasant to have to see a dermatologist, Dr. Bukowski made it less so. read more

Dr. Bukowski and his medical assistant, Madigan, were excellent throughout the year I was a patient. Unfortunately, the billing department completely overshadowed the quality of care I received. My insurance was billed multiple times for the same service, despite the claim being paid in full the first time. I raised this issue repeatedly with the billing department over a three-month period and was consistently told that I "didn't understand" how billing works. During this time, I ultimately had to cancel a credit card to prevent additional charges. Only after I explicitly stated that the situation felt extremely sketchy and inappropriate was I suddenly told that I actually owed nothing and that everything had been covered by insurance all along. Patients are required to keep a credit card on file, and charges are processed shortly after statements are issued, leaving little time to review or dispute questionable amounts. While the clinical care was genuinely good, the billing practices were stressful, opaque, and concerning enough that I canceled all future appointments. read more

The provider I was seeing is great. But with the new name change came a new billing policy. Keeping credit cards on file for any future bill. I refused and had to pay $100 on top of my copay to be seen. Keep in mind I did ask to cancel but would have been charged for that as well. This process of keeping my financials open to be accessed by them had me leave the practice. My appointment was in December and I'm still waiting for the $100 back. The leading dermatology cancer center said Elevated Dermatology did not correctly treat my cancer on my face where I called into the new Elevate Practice, what use to be Affiliated Dermatology, for two months trying to get in as they refused blue light treatments for over a year on me when they were doing 4 treatments a year. I developed a cancer so they care nothing about the patient and did nothing to help me. I went to leading dermatologist and one is the leading cancer univ. where right away they said they were setting me up for 2 treatments right away of blue light helping to prevent cancer. I had been with them for 6 years with no issues. So we see why they had to change the name. do not go to a practice that does not treat you doing treatments to prevent cancer. She actually kicked me out writing me a certified mail letter. Good luck if you go to her practice. The other dermatologist practice stated the same. Horrible Pratice! read more

Check in/Check out staff are efficient, not overly personalbe though I have seen a few different doctors at the practice over the last 5 years and they all have been professional and have taken the time to answer my questions. The only reason this is 3 stats and not lower. Exam rooms are showing their age looking tired and worn in need of new paint and maybe a deep clean. Lobby/waiting area is bright and comfortable which is nice because you spend ALOT of time there. The wait time is ridiculous. I've had various appointment times all with extensive waits.....20 mins to one hour after my appt time to be taken back to a room, then another 20 to 40 mins sitting in a paper gown before the Dr arrives for their 10 minute office visit. Fortunately I don't need to visit too often or I would look for another practice that shows respect for their patients time read more

I was fortunate to be able to see Dr Julie Tran this morning at 10 AM on such short notice as I called for an appointment to see her last week. Usually our Dr Tran is 2 months backed up. NOTE: My wife and I are making sure we see a Dermatologist at-least once a year for a full body review and we did that last December in 2022 with Dr Tran. I developed either a wart or a cyst on my finger about 2 months ago so I decided to have it checked by Dr Tran. I came 20 minutes early as traffic was better than I had imagined it would be. Waiting room was clean and I was cheerfully greeted, checked in and asked to provide documents and sign a few papers as standard procedure. I waited approximately 15 minutes to be called and escorted to my assigned examining room and prepared to see Dr Tran. She came 10 minutes later and was ready to question why I was there to see her? She gave me 3 options so I chose the one for her to numb it with injection and then cut the top off to send to the lab to determine if it was a cyst or a wart. Dr Tran was very gentle but quick and deliberate in her procedure concerned about me experiencing any pain? After a light bandage she advised I will get the answer from the lab in 2 weeks . Before leaving she's made sure I was Ok? Did I have any other concerns or questions? I highly recommend her and her staff and will continue to use her as my dermatologist. read more

TERRIBLE BACK OFFICE. My dermatologist Dr. Wehausen is fantastic. I have been seeing her for years for a few conditions. I never have to wait long, she never rushes me, and is always very thorough. However, I cannot say the same for the back office. I met my out of pocket maximum earlier this year, I showed them the app which confirmed this, but they billed me anyhow. I contacted the billing department who first told me it would be 30 days for the refund, but to check in 15 days. Then they told me that was not correct, they run their refunds quarterly, and I'd have to wait for the refund. I talked to Becky in the billing department who said she would try to get it expedited and contact me. Zero reply. I continue to call and get the run around. Next, they apparently left a message with the Practice manager, Robin, last week. Still no reply. Again, this was from July and they confirm I was overbilled, there is no excuse to not have provided a refund...it is now end of December almost 2025. This is horrendous customer service. They overbilled me, it should not take this long. Cut me a check and figure it out. Don't make your problems my problem. Again, my dermatologist is great, but the practice, not so. Michael read more

She was also great, friendly and was super knowledgeable as I had a ton of questions this visit. The rest of the staff is friendly and efficient as well. I've seen Dr. Tran x2 times for an aggressive on-going case of rosacea & large itchy/ dry red mystery rash on my neck I had about 5 months straight. I was having outbreaks every 1-2 weeks at least. Because I was not having an active rosacea flare up during my first appt. with Dr. Tran she almost dismissed me all together & told my why do you think you have rosacea, your skin is fine? Then I pointed out the giant rash on my neck under my collar, showed her the about 40 pictures with swollen eyes (I have occular rosacea as well), large rash, & stereotypical Papulopustular rosacea that seems to coincide with the rash & swelling. She unanimously agreed it was rosacea. Would she even have listened to me if I did not have proof on my phone? She was not interested in listening to the patterns I had explained between the two flaring at the same time. She gave me an RX for an antibiotic & steroid cream (antiquated methods of treatment). She then said, use these & if you're still having frequent flare ups come back for allergy testing, we will test for topical allergies - your neck & eyes are an allergic reaction not rosacea. So I did call & schedule allergy testing. I took the day off from work, paid the $75 copay, got in the office Monday & they told me I needed to come back thursday. I told them I took today off for this from a new job & I cannot take another day to come back - no one explained any of this to me. I've never had allergy testing & I didn't know if it was blood or scratch testing & why wouldn't scheduling know to mention I'd have to come back in 4-5 days to have the testing read in office? Dr. Tran proceeded to blame me & ask me why I scheduled the appointment & she made sure to mention I would have to pay the copay for today still. I waited about 25 mins in the waiting room before being brought back by a resident/ student who left me again for about another 10-15 minutes waiting for Dr. Tran. Both times students have been present during my appointments, which is fine, & does not bother me - but not in lou of good care, proper introductions, any time explaining the procedure or answering questions & not when you have very little time spent with the physician after. Dr. Tran also stated again today that she "did not see the rash, do you even want testing?" & this is a continued theme of her for dismissive-ness about the situation I've been dealing with for almost the past year. Well you offered me no other solutions & I am still having flare ups... I have no interest in coming back to this group or Dr. Tran as this is probably going to be a lifelong disease for me I will be contending with as it is hereditary linked & has no cure. My aunt has been given several new drugs to try & is now in almost complete remission. The only reason the neck rash "went away" so to speak/ is no longer currently visible (only visible now during rosacea flare ups) is because my acupuncturist gave me a bottle of herbs about 1 month ago that made it go away after 5+ full months continually visible redness. I only tried them after using the steroid cream Tran prescribed with no success & I did not want to be habitually using steroids or antibiotics long term. It barely helped with any of the redness & the rash was still often dry, flaky, tight, and still red. The lack of concern about getting to the bottom of what is causing my long term flare ups is not in alignment with my health or safety. After my 2 visits with Dr. Tran she's showed zero interested in helping me. I really didn't even care about the miscommunication & copay, but I did care that at no point did anyone apologize to me even for a second or take a minute to do so before my leaving. No one said goodbye to me or thank you, & I had to ask for the date they scheduled me to come back as they forgot to tell me - nothing. That was what cemented my writing this review. What's another several months of itching, redness, burning skin & rosacea pustules going to hurt right? In short, this place does not respect your time or money so I wouldn't respect there's either. read more

I agree with many of the other reviewers here. Dr. Tran was dismissive. when I said I wanted to schedule annual checks - as a pale person in my 60s who has had multiple sunburns and a family history of skin cancer - she seemed to think I was being silly. I have since gone to a different dermatology practice which was much friendlier. They went out of their way to make sure to introduce me to one of the partners as a new patient. My nurse was great. Would have been 5 stars if she was all I was evaluating. Dr. Tran is not suitable for her position - not because of a lack of knowledge, but because she doesn't have the skill to listen and then respond to what she heard. My nurse had to basically say, "stop talking, and listen to WTF he is saying. You two are not having the same conversation" at one point. I needed to schedule a visit as I had not had a skin cancer examination in a while so my wife has used Dr Blakey in the past and I called on a Monday and they had an opening that same week on a Thursday which worked with me as the next appt would have been a few months later. There is plenty of parking and the building is very modern looking with plenty of seating. I arrived early to fill out paperwork and the front office staff were friendly and I didn't have to wait long to get checked in. I waited for about 10 minutes for the nurse to call me in and then I saw Dr Blakey not long after I had changed into the surgical gown. She arrived at my appointment early and she was extremely friendly and was thorough in the examination. At the end of the examination she asked if I had any questions and was extremely professional and friendly. I would highly recommend. read more

Zero stars?? Can i give them a ZERO? My very first appointment to this practice was with Dr Tran. I had waited months for this to hopefully find out why my hair was falling out very rapidly in just 2 years time....its literally like a nightmare to watch your hair fall out at only 50 years of age. After waiting for an hour in the waiting room and another 30 in the room in walked dr Tran. She spent the majority of my 15 minutes office visit dictating notes to the nurse, and I couldn't tell at first if she was talking to me or not. She grabbed at my head abruptly, saying you have more hair than me. What hair loss where u bald?? I showed her the spots, she said, no hair loss. You have more hair than me! She spoke quickly and abruptly, dismiising my concerns, making me feel like i was an idiot and wasting her time. I got no advice, no information, but was out my copay quik as that. They walked out, and I heard a faint...have a nice day from down the hall. WORST DR. VISIT EVER!!! read more

VERY DISAPPOINTED in this place. To start it takes a year to schedule an appointment and when you do finally get one you WILL WAIT up to 45 min after your scheduled appointment time before you are finally taken to a patient room. They DO NOT UPDATE your billing information and you get NO NOTICE of this until months later when it is TOO LATE to resubmit the claim. It is IMPOSSIBLE to get in contact with someone, the phone just rings every time you attempt to call. If you do leave a message it TAKES DAYS until you get a call back. I had a small mole removed that the doc wasn't even sure needed to be removed but removed it anyways. They billed my insurance $395, plus $185 for office visit, $65 copay and then another bill for $85 from pathology. All this for a tiny mole!! If I would have known, I would have declined the procedure! I called to discuss the bill and she basically said that's what they charge and that was that. Dr. Tran is all business. I see her for an annual skin check for skin cancer prevention due to a family history of melanoma. She is exceedingly thorough. I am delighted that there is no idle chit-chat during this rather personal examination. She is very efficient, which makes me far more comfortable since I am disrobed and subject to her very close physical examination. There have been times when she did not like the look of a spot and removed it, right there, no additional appointment needed. I doubt that she would be able to do that if she was concerned about running a bit behind or lengthy chit-chat. In fact, I found that her demeanor was warm and candid, once I had my clothes back on. I heard good things about this practice so I gave them a try. I saw Dr. Tran. I know she is very qualified (I checked her out before making an appointment) but her communication style is very abrupt and slightly argumentative. It came off as 'I'm really busy and I don't have time for your silly problems and, btw, you're stupid'. I did not get my issues addressed and I felt a little beat up afterwards. My issues continued and I was frustrated that I'd spent time and money so I called them. The receptionist got me an appointment with Dr. Thornton very quickly. I loved her. She was kind and attentive and she prescribed meds (and gave me free samples!) that cured my skin problems. I've also seen Dr. Hoover and I really like her as well. read more

I was very disappointed in the quality of treatment Dr Tran suggested; she insisted there was an imbalance in my body, even noticing a large red spot on my leg that continued to get bigger but refused to run any tests. Her treatment plan was nothing but months on antibiotics and harsh chemicals. When I asked about holistic treatments, or something less harmful to my skin the nurse mocked me and discredited my feelings. I ended up doing my own research on holistic treatment and it worked so much better and was incredibly cheap. I also couldn't be in direct sunlight for over 6 months because everything she prescribed made my skin bubble and burn if I walked outside or drove my car with the windows down. read more

Absolutely terrible treatment of patients. Made me feel exceptionally embarrassed and uncomfortable throughout EVERY appointment I had to go to and every phone call I made. Do yourself a favor and forget this place even exists. You're much better off at one of the many other dermatologist offices in Richmond... it's important to remember that patients are people who are at your location to be medically treated. There are several doctors at this establishment so you might get better treatment that I did. After waiting for 42 minutes, I was finally led inside. The doctor did not show concern to my problem. She appeared very impatient and abrupt. The examination was so brief that left me feeling unease, and seriously doubtful of her diagnosis. A week later, I went to a different dermatologist for second opinion. It turns out that I was misdiagnosed by Affiliates. The lack of professionalism and concern for patient demonstrated by doctor at this facility is appalling. She rushed through the entire process, did not care of see/understand my issue, and misdiagnosed me as I suspected. I am fortunate as there was no serious damage. It is scary to think about the other serious consequences from misdiagnosis and mistreatment that result from gross examination. read more

Dr. Shelley Hoover in my experience, showed absolutely no empathy or compassion towards me as I was a first time patient. I arrived fifteen minutes early for my appt., checked in without problems and did not wait long out front before being taken back to see the doctor. I then waited in my gown for nearly an hour for her (the nurse even came in to apologize for the wait) in a room where later Dr. Hoover admitted the air conditioning was not working properly. I began to feel faint and was about to get someone when she came in. There was no apology for having to wait so long or empathy when I told her I was feeling nervous and overheated. She was verbally unprofessional towards me from the start because I explained to the first nurse that I was uncomfortable having Dr. Hoover's male nurse in the room while having a full body exam. I had no prior knowledge of a male nurse until she informed me Dr. Hoover would be in with her male nurse. I explained that I had specifically chosen a female dermatologist and asked if it would be a problem to have a female nurse. Instead of having a female nurse assist, Dr. Hoover advised me she could not do a full exam on me without her male nurse. I then had to endure her irritation with my request not to have a male nurse. She even went as far as to accuse me of being discriminatory, saying it was as if I was asking not to have a nurse because they were black. I explained that some people have a history (i.e. rape or molestation) and did not feel comfortable for that reason not because of gender or race. Her comment was off the cuff and not sympathetic. After expressing my nervousness, the fact I had waited a long while, that it was my first dermatologist appointment in which I was expecting a female and reminding her that I was made very aware that if I had been late or a no show there would be a $50 fee, she looked at me and said "Are you done lecturing now?" I then asked her if I could leave. I left humiliated and shell shocked. My advice to those who are also mislead by her highly rated reviews on other sites, STAY AWAY! read more

Great place....at first! I had an appointment in February. Quick and easy. I have psoriasis and Dr. Hepper needed to get a PA for a prescription. Once approved I was to come in to see her nurse for an injection. A few weeks later the RX arrives and I go to the office and am told I am to pay for this visit. I told the office that is incorrect. I am here merely for a nurse's visit per Dr. Hepper. Apologies given. I'm not charged and Dr. Hepper sees me anyway even though she wasn't supposed to. I thought that was nice. I leave and am told to call in June for my next Stelara shot. Unfortunately, by June I lost my job and didn't have any health insurance and definitely couldn't afford the 20k medication so I have to skip June. I get a new job, new health insurance and call Hepper's office to explain I missed a dosage. Her nurses say "no problem" we can get PA from your new insurance and get you one refill until you can come in and see us again. This was the first week of August. Two weeks later I hadn't heard a thing from anyone. I called the office and left a voicemail. Another week passes and I get a call from a nurse who tells me she was on vacation which is why no follow up. Says she is still working on getting PA. Fast forward to yesterday when I am called by the nurse and told the insurance company can't find me in the system. Untrue because I call the company and get my info with no issue. Another call from a nurse later and suddenly Dr Hepper is saying she won't fill the RX unless I have an appointment. When I question this the response was "well the insurance company took too long and we need to see you now because it has been more than 6 months and your medication requires follow up at least every 6 months." Then I say, "but you saw me in April. That was less than six months." Her response was "oh, but we didn't bill you for that so that doesn't count." I then asked if dr hepper would help me with the Psoriatic Arthritis pain I'm having until I can get my RX filled. Keep I mind psoriatic arthritis is CAUSED by psoriasis and is a known side effect. She refused, or so the nurse told me. So to recap, so far I can't get an RX I was promised and desperately need and I have a condition flaring up BECAUSE I can't get that RX and the doctor refuses to assist me. So I schedule the appointment they required. Today I get a call from the office saying I can't schedule an appointment because I owe money from the appointment in April they DIDN'T CHARGE ME FOR. Don't deal with these people. They are ridiculous!!!! read more

My first and only visit to ADOV was with Dr. Tran. It was one of the worst doctors visits ever. I went in with a minor infection on my arm from an allergic reaction No big deal. I waited for 25 minutes, and another 15 in the exam room. After the murse "screens" you, you wait for the doctor. The door flings open and in comes Dr. Tran carrying her laptop and her assistant trailing behind her. She gave no introduction of herself (it was my first visit to the practice) she said let me see your arm, looks at it, asks if ive been to africa or other 3rd world countries, to which I said no. Then she says "take your clothes off" ... take my clothes off? for what? "We need to see all of your skin" Yeah fine whatever. Then she decided she was taking a biopsy. Biopsy done, stitches in my arm. She rambles incoherently a lot, then she was gone. Left with her assistant who informs me that I need to make a follow up visit to have the stitches removed. She hands me some cream THAT WAS EXPIRED and I was out the door. I had no idea if a script was being called in, or what I was supposed to do with my arm. Fast forward six days when they call with my biopsy results. Script is sent in and I thought I was on my way to healing up. WRONG. When it was time for my follow up appt to have the stitches out, they had to cancel my appt due to the weather. Because I couldnt immediatly reschedue because of work they informed me that the next appt wouldnt be until APRIL. needless to say I CUT THE STITCHES OUT OF MY OWN ARM AND TOOK MY BUSINESS ELSEWHERE. read more

I know she has many patients to see and can't spend all day with anyone, but I felt really rushed. I want to save you valuable time...don't get affiliated with this practice. My goodness the front staff must be miserable, because I experienced rudeness beyond belief. I arrived at office about 10 minutes early...I was still sitting in waiting room 30 minutes after appointment time. I inquired why I was still waiting, and one "lady" at the desk told me that I arrived 30 minutes late...what??? I arrived 10 minutes prior to the time that THEY WROTE on the appointment card. Also, I found Dr. Tran to be aloof and not very friendly. She gave the scaly patch of skin on my arm a cursory glance (that was very kind of her, huh?) and wrote me a prescription. Also abruptly informed me that I had dandruff (I was there for my arm) and wrote another prescription for shampoo and was sent on my merry way. I wonder what the scaly patch on my arm is...what's the name of the condition? I may never know (she did no biopsy)...the prescription didn't work. Also, wouldn't you know it...I still have dandruff (that prescription didn't work either). Summary: I have made an appointment with another dermatology practice. I have been going to Dr. Thornton for about four years now. She has always been able to diagnose what's going on with my super sensitive skin and follow up with the appropriate treatment. Mrs. Scribner, the Nurse Practitioner, is also very helpful. I've only found one rude person there who seemed to be really unsure of herself. I don't know whether she's a nurse or med asst.
