Its a very good place, but compared to how it was 5 years ago - it deteriorated. Still definitely worth a visit

I spent my last night in London in New Cross since I had to get to Gatwick easily the next morning…read moreand came here for dinner. I had their spicy ground beef larb with coconut rice and was impressed, it WAS spicy and hot. Most Thai places play down the spice factor but they sure don't here. It doesn't look like much from the outside and I was here on a Saturday night and the place was empty. Nonetheless the girl here was really friendly the food was perfectly fine and the prices are beyond reasonable. I love finding places off the tourist radar.

What a pleasant surprise - there were highs and lows throughout the evening BUT both my friend and…read moremyself left with smiles on our faces and very full tummies and that's why I've given it a 4 star... I LOVE Thai food and when I saw a 4.5* spot just round the corner called Thailand, it just had to be investigated! We arrived and straight away noticed the great offer of a 3 course meal and a glass of wine for just £12.95 served throughout the week. Impressive! We were feeling flush and decided to choose off the a la carte menu but I'd definitely return to give the offer a whirl. We chose to share the mixed starter, and the crispy duck and pancakes to start, and then chicken penang, prawn pad thai and sticky rice for mains. Service throughout was polite and well timed, our waitress was in fact the owners daughter and shared some stories about her father and the two restaurants they own. She was wonderful! Now to the food - the mixed starter was a bit of a disappointment, there was just way too much deep fried vegetables rather than the good quality products like chicken satay and prawn toast. We actually had to leave the majority which was a shame. Now to the duck... NOM. Perfectly cooked and crispy, plenty of pancakes to share, plum sauce think a flavoursome and when put together with cucumber and spring onion, just perfection! Now to the best part - their Thai food is authentic, packed with a punch and truly delicious! The pad Thai had lots of large and juicy king prawns, the Penang was in a thick and creamy sauce - the best I'd ever had! All I will say is we would have like a little more veg (in both dishes) but this didn't take away from flavours of food, really great quality food! We really did enjoy the evening and we'll definitely be back for another girlie night soon! Highly recommended if in the area and a lover of Thai!

I just wanted to add my vote to this great Thai restaurant. The food is very good, and the prices…read moreare very reasonable for London. It does have a cozy and friendly atmosphere. I just wanted to clarify a few points that were raised above but not fully discussed: 1) This restaurant does NOT serve any alcohol at all. Consequently, they do allow you to bring your own wine (which is great for saving money). So be sure to stop into one of the local shops on your way there and buy a bottle of wine. 2) Space is VERY limited. The restaurant is basically the dining room of an old house that's been converted into a restaurant. So it can get very crowded. Be sure to call first and make a reservation. I've seen people waiting outside this place for 30-40 minutes to get a table otherwise, and the first thing the waiter asks to in-coming customers is "Do you have a reservation?" And it can get crowded on week-days as well as weekends.

It can be hard to get a table but it's worth the wait. The restaurant is justoff Lordship Lane so…read morethere are plenty of pubs and bars to hang out in before hand if you're queuing for a table. Take out is also a great option as the restaurant works pretty quickly, you just have to make sure you have cash as the restaurant is not registered on just eat or hungry house. The dishes are great value for money. My all time favourites are the massaman and yellow curry with coconut rice. Pad thai and pad see eew are amongst the best I've had in London. A diverse menu that would please a big group. They also have a selection of delectable starters and tasty salads that will make sure you don't leave hungry. They also allow bring your own so it's a great cheap and cheerful night out catching up wih friends.

If you're a fan of "authentic" Chinese food, you're going to be disappointed, as the menu is largely made up of the usual English takeaway favourites like crispy chili beef, but if you just want some fried rice, sweet and sour pork and prawn crackers brought to your door and get change from a £10 note, then it's a good option. They do a range of excellent value set meals, all of which serve more people than they state - or maybe I just have a small appetite? Like most places, they always quote around 45 minutes delivery time, but I've rarely waited more then half an hour.

We usually order takeaway from here since the dishes are of a reasonably reliable level of quality…read more Our standard order includes egg fried rice and salt and pepper chicken wings for the kids, while the husband and I cast about the menu for favorites. Beef curry and Mongolian beef are both decent, and the Singapore noodles (vermicelli, of course, as ho fun and egg noodles are no substitute) are nice and spiced. The vegetarian crispy duck is nearly as good as the real duck, and in general both dishes are better than the versions from other restaurants. The orange chicken isn't exactly what I expected; it's more of an orange version of lemon chicken, if that makes sense. In the US, orange beef is a standard dish, where the breading is cornstarch and very crispy, with a subtle orange glaze that doesn't soften the breading. New Winner's version is doused in sauce so the breading had nearly disintegrated; the kids didn't care though and ate it just fine :) Prices are reasonable. You can feed a family of four on 15 quid.

It's definitely one of those places you need to know about as you are highly unlikely to come across it by accident. The restaurant itself is basically a large conservatory with chunky wooden furnishings and is decorated with a nice variety of Thai artefacts. The staff are all very welcoming and pleased to offer advice if it's needed. I have lost count of the number of times I have dined here with B and friends over the past few years; it's a local favourite and can be relied on to serve up a tasty Thai feast whenever you feel the need for some spicy comfort food without breaking the bank. We kicked off with our usual starter of the Jasmine Platter which was a nice selection of Thai favourites. Our guest Patrick had the Tom Woon soup which came with plenty of well flavoured chicken. For the mains we had a masaman curry, chicken panang and my personal favourite the tamarind duck which is a sliced breast sitting on a bed of seaweed with a very tasty sweet and sour sauce. There is a small reasonably priced wine list or you can order beer or larger from the pub and have it brought through. It gets very popular with the locals here at the weekend so I would recommend booking in advance. We tumbled out into the chilly night air well satisfied with the way we had kicked off 2011.

Basic Thai but well made with a smile. The UK doesn't offer great Thai food in general but this is at the upper end of your standard takeaway fare. Authentic pad thai, decent masaman curry.
