Hadn't had a subscription in years. Checked their website, no active subscriptions. When I did subscribe it was 11 bucks. noticed a charge today on my account for $108 from Elephant. Tried to call them no reply. Tried to email them. No reply tried to contact them through their website no reply. As much as I used to enjoy their articles, I really feel scammed by them. I have asked my bank to put a block on any charges from them and sadly will not recommend them to anyone again. read more

If I could give a zero I would. Today on Instagram they post about their political views, forgetting that readers have a diverse opinion on the matter. I read (read, past tense) for wellness, not for political opinions. I can find that anywhere. So that is one thing, but I stated it, and the elephant journal employee/writer/video speaker writes "I don't care how you feel." As if I didn't already have enough reason to leave, I will be sure to tell otehrs to stay far from this 'wellness" fraud. Stay away from ANYTHING from this company. The renewals are ridiculously expensive for what you receive. I was unable to automatically cancel, when I requested a cancellation through email, I was still charged $30 for the year...even though, they'll offer the subscription for $9 ify ou try to cancel. Clearly, the value is not there. My only option was to cancel and pay the full $30. The customer service people are snarky as hell as well. Goodbye and good riddance! read more

Consistent with the other negative reviews about their terrible customer service and questionable business practices. I have apparently had a recurring annual subscription charge to PayPal, but I never noticed until this year (2023) when they charged $60.00 (up from $29.00 in 2022). I contacted them and they discovered I had blocked their emails since 2020, and that's why I didn't receive the notice they say they sent. I don't care for it, and I'm sure that's why I stopped getting their frequent, annoying emails. Anyway, they refuse to refund any part of the $60.00, and the person I was trading emails with was very snarky, rude and dismissive. I'm out $60 bucks, easily a week's worth of groceries - for a service I don't like and will never use. And they say they are "enlightened". What a joke. read more

Consistent with other reviews - including the 3 Yelp does not recommend, for some odd reason - Elephant Journal subscription service is a rip off & a joke. I got an courtesy email (very nice) alerting me of an upcoming annual auto-renewal date, along with a link to "cancel subscription" but then, when you click the link, a pop up notifies you that it should be handled / received within 24-48hrs. Well guess what, when the deadline date rolled around WEEKS later, my card was still charged. I "contacted" customer support - again, thru their website because that is the only option they offer - to which I received an email stating they cannot give me a refund because I hadnt responded to the (PHONY) message (THEY NEVER SENT) requiring me to FURTHER CONFIRM that in fact, I did want to cancel my subscription. AND YET, my account says my annual subscription has now be canceled as of that same renewal date! WHAT A SCAM ALSO, you cannot remove the card on file - you have to request they do it. Upon further investigation, good luck finding a confirmed full business address as I would like to report them to the Better Business Bureau. Be very careful. While the content is good, if you cannot afford to renew, they make it virtually impossible to cancel. They will trick you into paying for another year. If you click cancel, it does not cancel your membership automatically. It just begins a series of emails from them pressuring you to renew. The email I received stated they were happy to help. However, I got billed for another year. When I probed further, they sent me another email saying I didn't read the fine print that required me to respond to their new offer. If I didn't respond, they would take that as a yes to stay on. But I never received that email. I have all my emails with them and that one's not there. Plus I tried to cancel 5 times before that...how many times does it take? You cannot cancel automatically and they behave unethically so BEWARE. read more

I subscribed to elephant journal a year ago. When I requested to cancel my renewal for the next year they emailed and confirmed my cancelation, and still charged me a renewal cost. When asking for my refund they wrote back asking me whether I wanted to maintain my subscription with a half year price. I again asked for my refund. No answer. While their journals are a delight to read, their business practices are questionable. They were untruthful about the renewal and now are withholding my money. I recommend that everyone reading this to check their account settings and credit card statements. read more

I'm going to leave content alone because people have a right to write what they want to write about even though I find their articles getting more and more vacuous and contemplating their navel. What I am furious about is I was locked into a subscription which I ended up never using. A month prior to a renewal was the notice of renewal not a week or four or five days when it is relevant to end a subscription. But most of all I could not log into my account it said my email didn't exist in their accounts! So I was charged the full amount and when I contacted customer service they gave me a refund of half even though I canceled the day off. Are you kidding. In other words I did not read one article once I got renewed and they said oh it's in your original contract from like a year ago. Really not friendly customer service. Luckily I have Capital One so I don't have to deal with them directly. I guess they're getting more self involved or struggling to survive by having such a policy. Really horrible business. They actually pride themselves in being "real people" on their end of customer service, I've never dealt with such bad business, inhumane. I really tried to reason with them. They pulled a $36 charge from my account and the SAME DAY I asked them to please give it back, they sent me a screenshot that I supposedly got an email reminding me of the renewal (which if I did I must have accidentally deleted, but it also wasn't in my trash either so....) In their screenshot they could see the emails were unread and my account was 11 months inactive. They refused to refund me for a service I CLEARLY do not use and completely forgot I had. Be careful if you subscribe to this company. For all their spiritual talk and wisdom, they are unrepentant greedy scammers. Without letting me know my subscription was up for renewal and would I like to renew or not, they went ahead and renewed me for another year. When I immediately tried to cancel and receive a refund I was denied with little or no regard. Why would they charge me for something I did not want and then refuse to refund me even though I would have not been a big issue. very dishonest and misleading.
