I've been here a couple times just to meet up with friends before a real night out, but finally…read moretook the time to have that leisurely Sunday there. Someone mentioned earlier that it doesn't have the same lively vibe as the Dignity. Even though it is only a minute walk from there, most people go there as the station is closer to it. But that's exactly WHY I like CITR. It is RELAXED. It's not loud and people aren't bumping into you. Bliss! Perfect for our lazy board game action. Vegan goodies: They double checked the soup of the day for me and in the end made me a fabulous roasted veggie stack sandwich with chips and fresh chunky salsa. To drink I had a black coffee and a Warsteiner on tap. Non vegans: The OmniMonkey quenched his craving for fish and chips. There were a few pin bones to get through, but not many. He really loved how light and "beery" the batter was. Both of us were part of the Clean Plate Club for sure! Food prices are on par with other pubs. And I must say, every single person from the staff who spoke with us today (four total) were ridiculously nice and cheery! (You could even hear them quietly singing along with the music in the back.) I'm glad to see there are actual happy British servers who aren't afraid to show it! Just gob-smacked at the service I received for making sure I meal could be made for me was above and beyond. THANK YOU!

Stopped by on a business trip…read more Good food, good beer, friendly service. I would definitely stop back again. A little pricey, but when on expense who cares!

This is the pub I mostly try to avoid having to visit in Hendon. The drinks are extortionately…read moreexpensive for the area (i.e. expect to pay over £5 per drink for spirits and mixers), and there are no cold soft drinks at all, they are all on shelves behind the bar, and the fridges are used only for alcoholic beverages. I had expected this to mean that a soft drink would be cheap, but it is not. You are served a mini bottle (less than half a pint) of warm coke and charged about £2 for it. The staff do not seem bothered about the nasty warmth of their drinks, I just got a shrug and a kind of "that's just how it is here" response. The food is probably the redeeming feature, being reasonably priced and tasty hearty fare, if a little bog-standard pub grub (but then it is a pub!). The only problem here is the seemingly random amount of time you wait for it. Sometimes the food comes quickly, and other times you find yourself asking what has happened, and after some embarrassment on the part of the staff, find that they have forgotten the large group of you all sitting there looking hungry. The interior is clean, well maintained and comfortable, with a large number of tables and chairs so you can sit down to eat. It is however very dark inside, not so much a problem at nights, but it seems very dark compared to outside during the day, making it a bit weird to eat lunch in. The pub shows sporting events on big screens, which are much larger than usual pub screens, though if you aren't there for the sports, you might want to avoid the pub on these occasions as it becomes very loud and crowded at these times, or you could sit outside and watch the world go by on the tables they have out on the street. Overall, not somewhere I go unless I can't force an alternative!

People like pubs for different reasons. I like the décor and feel - it's laid back, not…read morepretentious. It has a cool beer garden that is nicely laid out. The food isn't bad either with a great prix fix menu (2 courses for £10, a deal!) That said, it's SLOW. The ongoing joke is that it will take an hour between ordering your food and getting it. A slight exaggeration but not by much!! Food is good but can be hit or miss. We ordered some chips but sent them back because they looked like the leftovers from the bottom of the fry vat. That said, those that were cooked right were perfect: steaming hot, crunchy on the outside, fluffy on the inside. The whitebait went down a treat. The gammon was meaty and flavourful but the eggs were overcooked (wherefore art thou, runny yolk??) The desserts came about 45 minutes after they cleared our plates away because they had forgotten about it (luckily, we were pretty well steamed at this point and had forgotten we had even ordered dessert!) Is it perfect? No. But it ticks enough of the right buttons that the inconsistencies are forgiven.

Fish & chips, one of the better ones. Good fry surface, good chips, fresh white fish, no grey bits,…read moreI like the sea salt on top. Was supposed to be minted peas, but was plain regular. Salmon on gnocchi was also good. Bit of a Gastro style pub. Not a cheap menu kind of pub. Nice patio. Handsanitizer was very sticky, like they had mixed it with honey. This is on the corner of Billionair's Avenue, where dictators do their real estate money laundering. I wonder if the House of Saud ever come here to eat fish & chips, because apparently they own 10 houses on the nearby exclusive avenue. The only thing I didn't like was that to use the bathroom you have to touch a rusty old dungeon lock key attached to a century old metal mug to open the door, because I guess we can't be trusted with an unlocked door that is locked from the inside. My Diet Coke wasn't very cold. But I had a nice time here and the service was friendly.
