0 stars! Went to…read moreRakkas to celebrate my brothers birthday in June 2023. After eating at the restaurant 3/5 of us had symptoms of diarrhoea and vomiting including my brother. 1/5 had diarrhoea and upset stomach. On the day, the lamb chops had no flavour and I had to spit out a piece of meat I had in my mouth as it was really hard to chew. The prawns also did not seem to taste quite right. I am not one to complain so just paid the bill in full and left. I had eaten at the restaurant before going to celebrate my brothers birthday and had no issues, the food was also really nice which is why I decided to book here again to celebrate my brothers birthday. I contacted the restaurant the following day (17th June 2023) to inform them of myself and other celebrants becoming ill following eating in the restaurant, and have since contacted them on 8 separate occasions in addition to going to the restaurant in person for a response. I spoke with a man on 23rd June who said he was a manager in the restaurant, he said the email and receipt had gone to the directors and I should receive a response by 27th June latest. He also said that noone else had made a complaint about the food on the day our celebrants were at the restaurant. This was accusatory, as if I have fabricated 4 out of the 5 of us being ill the day after eating at the restaurant on the 16th June 2023. I am still yet to receive a reply. Aesthetically, the restaurant is nice but the food was tasteless and the company/directors have no values, ethos or care for their customers. My experience with Rakkas has been really awful and personally I will not use or recommend it to others again!!

I'm a big fan of the Turkish breakfast item called Menemen (tomatoes, scrambled eggs, peppers and…read moreonion) and they do this beautifully here. But that's not the only thing that's noteworthy about this place - I really enjoyed the Wan breakfast, which consists of various cheeses, spreads, sweet condiments, fried egg and plenty of warm pita bread. In fact, my friend - with whom I came to this place - had originally come to this place because he saw on their menu that they serve this special breakfast and apparently it's not easy to find it here in London. (He's Turkish by origin and always on the lookout for things that remind him of home.) Insider tips for eating the Wan breakfast: - generously spread the white/soft cheese (upper right bowl on my picture) on some pita bread and top it of with honey...heavenly! - put a slice of the feta cheese (lower right bowl on my image) on a piece of bread and top it off with a slice of tomato; - I liked to combine the olive mash (mid-left bowl) with the crumbled cheese (upper left); - dip your bread in tahini and pekmez and just enjoy; Also, I highly recommend coming here with at least two people and then order one Wan breakfast and one Menemen...that, combined with loads of cups of tea, will leep you busy for a while! Although, I haven't tried their lunch or dinner menu, I trust that it's equally good too.

Hendon

It was 5pm on a Thursday afternoon. I felt like I'd slipped between two worlds of people being at…read morework and those still travelling home. Nobody was in The Gallery but me. So I sat back and made myself comfortable. Aesthetically the place is beautiful. There is a long shotgun bar, a huge seating/roaming area, and a decent cocktail menu to keep me interested. The decor is a mix of light wood and chrome, with the odd plasma screen showing football. The bartender and I got chatting as he made me a cocktail off the menu. It was a martini but he offered to make it long on the rocks for me to suit my manly appearance. Tee hee! I could see he wasn't happy with the balance, making the concoction several times. For keeping me waiting he refused payment. Nice touch! The cocktail was still good. I decided to ask to be shown around. There is a club and restaurant on site. The restaurant is very suave and endearing in a classic way. As you walk up to the club you can't help but notice the opulence of the artwork and interior design. The club itself is a simple hall with a VIP room off to the side and another bar. Taken as a whole The Gallery is an impressive building and this helps distract from its problem. Who goes partying in Hendon? There isn't much else in the area to draw in London's socialites and it is known that the locals aren't the most chic group in the city. To battle this, new staff and management have been brought in to give The Gallery the right vibe. I enjoyed my quiet cocktail, time will tell whether I enjoy the clientèle.

Other than relaxing in the elegant and ambient setting, you can linger and peruse the works of 30 or more artists which include many well-known names. The names on exhibit at the Gallery include artists like Michael Solomon, legendery photographer Cecil Beaton,Damien Hirst,Rob Carter,Nick Carter. The interior of the establishment showcases many original art-works from Britain's popular young talent. The multitude of paintings on display depict a broad-range of techniques like:-Surrealism,Abstract,Expressionism,Pop-Art,Minimaland Conceptual Art. The food was absolutely fabulous-preparedby the award winning chef Stephen Englefield. The menus are very innovative, regularly reviewed with an insistence on fresh ingredients. The Crab-on-Confit of Leek and Potato, followed by braised Cumbrian Lamb shoulder with a Champagne and Lamb sauce was just perfect.
