It's dark, classy yet casual, and romantic. We walked in and the bartender (I would even say mixologist) immediately greeted us. We ordered our drinks and she promptly started concocting our cocktails. We ordered a Mowcow Mule and a Mojito. Both were exceptionally good and reasonably priced! O Bar is a smart and sophisticated bar offering cocktails and drinks those that like the scene and would prefer this to a night in the pub. Cocktails are good but as you would expect maybe not the cheapest in the world but that comes with the territory if you want this kind of a night out. Cool, upmarket, sophisticated and reassuringly expensive. Put this place on your list if you want to go to somewhere a bit more special.

I have heard the response time can be up to 12 hours on line. This is a speakeasy disguised in the form of a 1920s pharmacy during the time of prohibition in the US. There is a protocol on how to enter and entry is based on your pharmaceutical needs. After you enter the room filled with tinctures and tonics, the windows turn opaque shielding you from the view of a passerby. After describing your "condition" (a secret word) the "pharmacist" discretely slides your prescription through the secret door and a shelf before you are escorted to the secret hidden bar. The decor is vintage furniture and antique surgical instruments and chemist glassware and tools. The prescriptions are fun crafted cocktails. They also serve Japanese whiskeys. The yummy British cheese was served in a wooden cigar box. My only criticism is the bar is too dark. We loved the concept and the bar! He enjoys the vast selection of beer and always finds one he likes - he is very picky. I'm known to be particular myself but enjoy their house Chardonnay. We walked by the Vault so many times before we tried it - mostly my fault because I didn't relish the idea of walking down steps past a smoker with an ashtray into some gloomy dank restaurant. My husband convinced me to try it and I found it bright, cozy, and with wonderful varied/Mediterranean high quality food...now oftentimes when we try another restaurant in Richmond I find myself wishing we had just gone to the Vault but we already in just five weeks of living in Richmond have frequented the Vault so much that the staff know us by sight. This is their quiet time right now so easy always to find a table. They said their busy season is October through March so we look forward to experiencing that with them. Last night's was a Joaquin Phoenix double bill, showing Walk The Line followed by Two Lovers. While we ended up skipping the first film and just having dinner, the price is still very reasonable. We shared a lovely bottle of wine outside on the terrace (had to sit on the wall though as all the tables were full) with amazing views of the river and Hammersmith Bridge. The cinema itself is what every cinema should be: small and dark, with the seats on an incline so everyone can see. They showed the previews and ads WAY before the start time (PERFECT!!), even drew the curtains in between the previews and the film itself (DRAMATIC!!). Riverside has much more to offer than just a restaurant and a cinema... it also shows stand-up comedy, has a fully functioning tv studio where they film live shows, a theatre for live music, and art exhibitions.
