One of the really best Sri Lankan restaurants, you don't find restaurants this good often. Price is one step towards the middle higher end and food full of flavor. Haven't tried everything for this restaurant yet, however Lamb madras curry is definitely a whackbang of garlic and spices. Honestly not a big fan of Indian food, however this restaurant is something special that can lurk me into it with the food smell spreading across the street. I was blown away by this place! Definitely grateful my dining companion made a booking as it was busy for the weekend dinner. Fun ambiance, a bit loud for say a first date, but fine for friends or family celebrating a special occasion. Service is quick, which is really good considering all the amazing aromas surrounding you. Our server was helpful in pointing out the traditional Sri Lankan dishes. The menu is quite large, so you can also choose from Indian specialities. Papadum was complimentary to start with two delicious dipping sauces to choose from. Then came our first dish of 15 string hoppers. These are basically patties of tiny rice noodles. We got the kiri hothi to accompany which is a bright yellow gravy (fish sauce optional) that was mild yet added a nice flavour when mixed with curry. The crab curry was a generous serve with a deep, rich flavour. Cracking the crab fresh out of the kitchen was tricky but once it cooled down it became easier. They provide a bib, lots of napkins and tools for this feat! Lastly the cauliflower and okra was served in a thicker curry sauce. Everything pairing well and tasting absolutely delicious! I really enjoyed this casual yet decadent meal. There were more dishes I could easily try but after that large meal it would have to be another time. With the ability to spice up or down, you can customise your dishes without lacking any flavour. Definitely must return soon and hope they open a location near the CBD. read more

Elephant corridor was recommended to me by a Colombo local so i knew that it had to be good. I booked online and received an instant email confirmation. I also received a text confirmation 1-2 days before my dinner date. There is heaps of free parking in the area but as the restaurant is located on a busy street with so so many restaurants and Asian groceries, it is difficult to find parking. I recommend that you avoid the street parking as you will be stuck for a while and head straight for the undercover cark park which i believe has over 540 spaces. The restaurant has dark mood lighting and both indoor and outdoor seating. We arrived at 6.30pm to a very busy restaurant so much so that one couple was asked to sit outside as they said the restaurant was fully booked out. So definitely make a booking. White table cloths with brown paper on top. Free poppadum and green and tamarind chutneys offered once you order. Roving water fairies fill your glass. There is a bar and a decent drinks list. My friend went for the Shiraz and i for the sweet mango lassi. We had been recommended the crab curry so went straight for it. You can also get Indian options like naan bread and lamb Madras but we were here for the Sri Lankan experience. So we got the rice noodle Hoppers. You get fifteen round shaped vermicelli like noodles that come in white and a purplish looking colour. It is recommended that you eat it with this yellow thick Sri Lankan soup but we felt that we didn't need it. The yellow soup is slightly sweet and has a mustardy taste to it. We enjoyed it more with our deliciously thick crab curry. You get an entire crab and the tools to eat it and also bibs. Me having no patience used my hands to break the legs and draw the meat our with my fork like utensil. We asked for medium spicy as they had advised us that extra spicy is very spicy and i felt that the spice was good and strong without overpowering the underlying flavours of coconut and mustard seeds. We also got the cauliflower okra curry which again has some delicious mustardy flavours with some turmeric. I loved the food as the flavours were so unique and each dish was quite unique. Service is super quick. We were in and out within an hour. And though the restaurant had a big group celebrating their 30th, they were still good at providing service on time. It did get very very noisy and hence we didn't stay too long. The desserts with golden fairy floss looked fancy but we were satiated. Good portions. Amazing flavours. And good price. I'm traveling from America and am in town for two weeks. So far I have enjoyed almost everything around my hotel (Novotel). I love indian food so I had to give this a try, especially since it is right around the corner. I got the Chicken saag (chicken saagwala on the menu--large pieces of chicken in a spinach based sauce) and the aloo paratha (naan with spiced potatoes inside.) Both were delicious, the staff was polite, and the restaurant has great ambiance--would be perfect for a date. I also really enjoyed the music they were playing. Some of my coworkers are Indian and have been coming here to get a taste of home, they agree that the food is very good and have been repeat customers during our stay. read more

It's worth the drive to Glen Waverley for this gem of a restaurant. It's a bit more upscale-looking than some other Indian restaurants I've been to lately, so it's a good date restaurant as well as a good place for a larger group. We ordered the hoppers as an entree, and had the lamb rogan josh and the butter chicken as mains. The hoppers were interesting, but not really my favourite part of the meal. The mains on the other hand were delicious, particularly the butter chicken. We ordered both dishes at the "medium" level of spiciness, which was perfect for us but it did have quite a kick. Went here for a work dinner and ate so much I made a complete fool of myself. The food is fantastic, the wait staff were very accurate with their 'spice-o-meter' of dishes. My only gripe was the tables are not made for people of above average height, and I felt a bit like a sardine. That however was a small price to pay for the delicious gorge-fest. I love my indian, and I'm definately partial to a good butter chicken. I went into Elephant Corridor with fairly high expectations after reading some decent reviews on the place. The restaurant itself was clean and well set out, plenty of tables but not over cramped. I didn't feel like I was sitting at the next groups table which was good. We shared a vegetarian curry and a butter chicken and a couple of naan breads. The butter chicken was fantastic, it had great balance of flavour, not too hot. The veg curry was good too, though it was alittle on the spicy side which took over the taste of the vegetables (though some people would probably like that!). The naan was really good, and is really nessessary to make the most of the sauce (for some reason I think licking the plate might be frowned upon..). read more

Manager asked us to pay the food bill in the middle of dinner just because he wanted to close his shift and told its a strict policy to ask customers to pay in the middle of food that's never happened in my life. If ur planning on ordering biriyani then pls just don't.. horrible it's rice mixed in a curry.. srilankan food tasted average. Service is worst and pls don't go after 9 they just want to go home early so they take full order at the same time and deliver everything at the same time. This is our favourite local restaurant and our "go-to" spot. The staff are friendly and accommodating and it's suitable for business meetings, romantic dates and boisterous catch ups with friends and family :) The dishes are usually on point, once we got the goat curry which was tough unfortunately. It's a great intro to Sri Lankan cuisine and many people travel a fair distance to sample the delights. Great for a weekend breakfast with a difference - hoppers! Yum! read more

I discovered this place after not having been around Glen Waverley for awhile. I was actually looking for PJ's Malaysian, and was disappointed to find that it was no longer there. Thankfully, I discovered this place, and I am glad that I did. I had a serve of butter chicken, which was absolutely delicious. It was really fresh tasting, and I thought the cashew nuts were a nice touch. It was a little on the expensive side though, but perhaps I've been spoiled by good and cheap Indian lately. For a nice sit-down meal, it's a good place to have a special dinner. I was impressed with the level of service, and the atmosphere was really quite pleasant. Been here a number of times and I must admit that I look forward to coming here every time. People always say you will always remember your first and in this cases I definitely do. Elephant corridor was the first to open me up to the world of Indian and Sri Lankan food and I absolutely love it. At the start when ever I bring my friends here to try for the first time...their first comment is always the same.."this is pricey for Indian food" then comes out the naan bread, chicken makhani, chicken korma, Sri Lankan beef curry, and Sri Lankan style potato..then it quickly becomes a group having awesome conversations over awesome food. Husband is Sri Lankan so I've eaten my fair share of Sri Lankan food. This place is second to none. We had the hoppers - all delicious- with chicken curry, cashew curry, kothu roti and pol sambol. All were fantastic but the chicken curry was stand out. Went here for a birthday dinner last night and had a lovely meal. There were three of us, we ordered the butter chicken, rogan josh and goat curry with rice and garlic naan. Even though we had to order "mild" for our 93 year old Auntie Jean and I prefer medium-hot, the food was tasty and flavourful. We also ordered a bottle of shiraz which topped off the meal. The service was good, water refilled and we were checked on once in a while. The only reason I am deducting a star is because when we walked in, I had my 93 old Auntie on my arm and she was walking with her cane. The waiter directed us to the back of the small restaurant to a table in which you had to weave in and out of chairs and tables. I asked to be seated at a table closer to the entrance as to not have my Auntie walking in and around the whole restaurant. The waiter told me that we could not sit at the tables near the entrance even though there were 3 tables available with no one in them. We were sat in the corner and the three tables had no one in them the whole time we were there. Maybe a bit more respect for our elderly? I paid $108 for the meal. read more

I've been here a couple of times and love the food. The cashew curry is amazing! Staff are friendly and I highly recommend!

The food is delicious, just a word of advise: if you don't like it too hot make sure you tell the waitress when you order. One time I missed to do so and my meal was so hot it was an ordeal. The thing was that it tasted fantastic but every time I took a mouthful I would cry. I asked for some yoghurt to help it, but they brought me spicy yoghurt. No much help there. read more

The person was tall and had a pony tail and was very rude to many customers not just us. He was not pleasant, and no curtsy at all. May be should give some training on how to serve customers. Myself and my wife have been to this restaurant a few times and have raved to friends about it but quite disappointing this time. Firstly, my wife's butter chicken had a lot of gristle and my Sri Lankan chicken, although tasty, had a slightly burnt flavour, more so as I got through the dish. I turned over two larger pieces of chicken to find them burnt at the bottom. I did not make an issue but when the waiter took the dishes I pointed this out to her and she advised she would talk to chef. Went off and never returned nor did anyone respond in any way which is very disappointing given the previous service in this restaurant. Nothing said when we paid the full bill which I did not want to do but my wife made me! There is no excuse for poor customer service. They have lost us as customers plus friends of our who we will tell of our experience! read more
