bhel puri and mango lassi

tasty Indian food but very small portions. I got the chicken tikka tandoori and there were only a couple small pieces of meat for $16. My friend had the bhel puri, samosa chaat, and mango lassi and enjoyed everything but found the food to be a little too spicy.

Quite standard indian food in a restaurant that feels like it's trying a bit too hard to create a niche when there really isn't one. Didnt quite get the aesthetic they were aiming for. That said the food was not too bad. Seating for groups was a bit limited; service was alright.

The open kitchen at Delhi Streets.

Beautiful space with lots of colour and a real Bollywood kinda feel. Staff are mega friendly. We ordered heaps of food to take-away, but I totally want to go back and eat in. I explored while I waited for my order to be ready. The samosa chaat was my favourite. So much flavour! Their curries are also delicious Not fatty or oily. Seriously nice. The masala dosa was also good, though I did like the curries a lot better. Next time I go I'm trying one of their wraps oh, and their chocolate m&m filled nann, because that sounds genius. I Recommend!

This place has won a prize for its cheap GOOD eats!

The naan will overtake your every shred of resistance to carbs. It's perfection!! Delhi Streets is located on what would initially seem like a very quiet lane, but in reality it's part of a strip of small restaurants. Inside you will be greeted by upbeat Indian music at lunchtime. A friendly busy waitress, food is prepared in an open kitchen, and it gets pretty busy at lunch. The menu is simple and conducive to making a good choice. Pick a thali, which is a platter, of either vegetarian or meat (or mixed) curries. That's the best idea and value here ($12 for a plate with curried chicken, lamb, rice, potatoes and salad). You get dhal bread to your taste - either plain or upgraded to garlic/cheese/onion. I can see why this place won a best cheap eats award. Nice variety, great flavour, BIG YUM! Delhi Streets gets 5 stars for being what it really is: awesome Indian food that's super authentic and well priced. Taste is on point, service is good, what more can one ask for? :-)

Katherine Place was a bit of a nothing laneway, but is being invigorated with a string of new businesses to brighten up the quiet end of Flinders Lane. Delhi Streets is one such place. A bright and colourful casual Indian eatery that is perfect for the CBD lunch crowd. The service is incredibly warm and the staff will eagerly take you through the whole menu if it's your first time. This is modern casual eating, with a range of both classic dishes (think thali plate specials and biryani) and fusion like wraps and naan bread pizzas. They also have some tapas style entrees with very modern options like the "skinny girl" lentil dumplings. I was advised that the wraps and pizzas were quite filling and they weren't wrong. Opting for the Chicken Tikka pizza, I got a hot, fresh naan covered in toppings for $9.50. An excellent feed for under $10 - just the right size for lunch (although I couldn't finish all of it!) The place is filled with Bollywood posters, brightly coloured stools and upbeat music - a fun and fast stop for lunch or casual dining. Note: Eftpos is only available for spends of $10 or more, so bring cash if you want to dine for less than $10

Location is not that good but the foos is simply awesome. I have tried masala dosa and chhole bhature. Chhole bhatures are simply awesome. I didnt find these kinda chhole bhatures in Sydney.

Incompletely filled the two smallest sections with butter chicken. The middle sized container had pickle... Take out was not worth it.

Overrated. As an Indian myself, was looking forward to the food. When I reached at 7:30 pm on a Friday, was promptly told that no seating is available without reservations (despite the fact that multiple tables were open). Wife and I decided to get take out instead. Prices are higher than shown on the pictures; understandable for any small business to increase prices once they develop a customer base. We were surprised that our food (Butter chicken thali and paneer dosa) was ready in less than 10 minutes. Still empty tables inside. We decided to eat outside on the stone steps like another group of 6 people. Food was neatly packaged but surprised by the little butter chicken and sambar relative to the naan/rice and paneer dosa respectively. Literally, the restaurant filled the two smallest containers with butter chicken relative to the mid sized container which had masala onions and mango pickle achar. We finished the butter chicken and sambar, left with plain rice and remaining dry dosa. Fortunately, the bird patiently waiting next to us had a healthy serving of plain rice. Walked by the restaurant while leaving and still empty tables. Still hungry (despite both my wife and I being less than 130 lbs!), we grabbed a gyro from around the corner. Finally, want to clarify the definition of a thali. Thali is used to refer to an Indian-style meal made up of a selection of VARIOUS dishes which are served on a platter... Serving butter chicken by itself is not a thali. Good food but waste of time and money.

Great atmosphere

Amazing, took the family, food and service amazing, first time my boys were open to Indian and loved it. Not to mention family friendly budget affordable. Get your Bollywood on!

Well, one Friday evening I decided that I would go and check out a couple of Restaurants that I…read morehave regularly travlled past on the tram - Red Pepper and Green Pepper. Well, it seems as if Green Pepper is no more leaving us with only Red Pepper (which is a bit of a shame since I liked the fact that there was a Red Pepper and a Green Pepper next to each other, but I digress). Anyway, since Green Pepper is no more I had to satisfy myself with Red Pepper, which isn't a bad thing mind you, it's just that I no longer had that choice (and for all I know I could have spent two hours standing out the front trying to work out which one to go inside). Okay, this isn't your standard Indian restaurant, in that it is actually more Indian that what you tend to get when you walk into your typical curry joint. Sure they do curry, but the food was much more traditionally Indian. What caught my attention (as it always does) was the goat curry, but I was also interested in the onion salad. Turns out the onion salad is basically a single onion that has been converted into one long strip. Still, it's onion and I quite like onion. Not a bad place I have to say, not cheap, but still it was nice.

There is not a lot I need to say about Red Pepper: It is…read morecasual, tasty, and affordable Indian food on the East End of Bourke St. It's not terribly atmospheric, but the laid-back order-at-the-counter vibe suited me just fine. And can recommend the vegetarian Thali. I'm a big fan trying various smaller sized dishes and this one comes with paneer, seasonal vegetables, daal, plus rice, raita, and a plain naan (we upgraded to garlic nan for an extra dollar.) For $14, it's a great price for a filling meal in the CBD.

I was smitten the moment I walked in, beautiful, upscale, contemporary vibe and for a Monday evening, it was pretty crowded! Staff was excellent, very attentive the entire evening. I started off with a blueberry punch which came with delicious pieces of sugary blueberries on top. Delightful. We told the waiter to bring us his top dishes and he did not disappoint. The burrata cheese with fresh coriander relish was one of my favorites, I have never had a burrata like this before, fresh, summery and delicious. The soft shell crab was another favorite of mine, nice and crispy and full of flavor. They brought out a bunch of mains including Petuna Ocean Trout, which just melted in my mouth, a chicken dish and some fried cauliflower. Easily the best Indian restaurant I have ever been to. The Som on staff was also great in pointing out some delicious red wines for me. Desert is the best part. Believe me when I tell you, you cannot say no, we ordered three deserts and I could have easily eaten 10 more and I'm not a huge desert person. If you only get one thing here, get desert. Excellent meal!

So when it's hella warm and you're hella hungry and someone goes "Yo, wanna bang out a quick thali?" and then they tell you it's at Tonka then yeah, I'm in. It can be a wait to get seated in the main restaurant part on a busy workday, but here's a pro tip coming atcha: sit in the front section or at the bar and order a meat or vegetable thali - a few minutes later a giant, gleaming silver tray will be ferried out to you groaning beneath a burden of butter chicken, salad spiked with chili and vinegar, incredible yellow dahl, pomegranate yoghurt, and some of the softest naan you ever tried, home gurl. Pair that with a spiced mango lassi jacked full of crushed ice and you could be in the backstreets of Bombay via Melbourne.
