The steak and mushroom pie was absolutely delicious! My husband had the shepherd's pie and we started with an order of the brussels sprouts. All of the food was delicious but the service was not the best. It was slow, forgetful and it was not even busy during our visit.

In a word...meh. This place is large so it's good for a group but the food itself is just average. They have a selection of British type dishes in addition to the usual burgers and chicken sandwiches. I had the steak and mushroom pie and it was decent. The pastry was hot and fresh and the pie had a filling that was similar to a thick beef stew with beef and mushrooms. The filling was pretty good but could've used some more steak and mushrooms and maybe a few pearl onions and a little more flavor. It came with a spring mix salad with goat cheese and a vinaigrette dressing. The side salad was solid but unremarkable. Service was very fast and friendly and I was impressed. This place is okay and my meal was alright but there's a reason I haven't been here in years and won't be in a rush to come back

We stopped in for a bite to eat and a beer after exploring the nearby history museum. We were there during happy hour which was a good deal with discounted drinks. We sat at the bar and ordered a beer each and their shepherds pie. The shepherds pie was really tasty and filling. They served it with a delicious side salad. We both enjoyed it. The service was good and it was a nice casual vibe. Overall, it's a cool spot and I'd return next time I'm in the area.

A nice pub in the heart of DC. They have a nice bar area plus plenty of seating for big groups. They have excellent service. They feature a pot pie flight that includes shepherds pie. The pies are delicious with flaky crust. They come with a nice house salad. The perfect meal on a rainy day.

Great food and drinks! Well priced and delicious, attentive servers. Had the butter chicken and a spritzer, both were amazing.

    Nobody wiping off the tables

Horribly run restaurant. Dirty dishes and tables everywhere, nobody cleaning them off but two hosts saying you can't sit at a clean table because they have 30 reservations. All the tables are empty. The ONLY positive was the bar staff who served food and drinks. Our table was filthy. I asked the person who delivered our food to please wipe off the table. It was never wiped off. Save your money and go to the nice restaurants in DC. This is a recent thing there. They never had enough staff but they were at least competently. Save your money and go somewhere else.

This is a great place on the edge of the food desert. As such, it has reasonable priced food, beer selection, and great service. As an English style Pub, I was nervous about how the shepherds pie would come out. It was excellent. Great ratio of meat to potatoes. Beer selection was also quite good. Good selection of English ales, a bitter, and numerous IPAs on top.

We wear weary travelers looking for a pub style restaurant. After a long day touring DC by foot we stumbled onto the Elephant & Castle. Six of us from Long Island enjoyed our delicious meals and drinks. All was served hot and timely. All very reasonably priced. Our server "Trip" made our visit delightful. She was courteous and menu knowledgeable. We will be returning very soon.

Met a friend at this spot because it was within walking distance of my hotel in the rain. The space was busy but we were seated right away with our reservation. We both opted for the Lychee cocktail which was light and fragrant. I went with the Mediterranean Summer Skewers which was large and fresh. I prefer my hummus with more garlic to minimize the plain chickpea taste. I took a bread pudding to go and it was absolutely delightful. They offered two sauces and they really elevated the dessert.

My team had a farewell lunch for our team member and they wanted to try this place. There aren't too many English restaurants in the area so I am always excited when I try one. I got the Sunday Roast served with mashed potatoes, green beans, Yorkshire pudding and some horseradish aioli. This was my first time having Yorkshire pudding and it was really good! Slightly crispy outside, but the inside was very airy and did a perfect job scooping up the gravy and aioli. The roast beef and sides were decent - good flavors and rich. This was a good lunch spot that I will definitely come back for some other English favorites! Entrees: Sunday Roast

Had a great dinner! We both got the fish and chips and loved everything about it. Nice beer selection and our server Niko was excellent. Loved the pub feel. Will be here for a full week and will probably head back again to try something else!

We stopped in for a meal but unfortunately I was not impressed. We were seated and forgotten. I had to go to the bartender in order to get a waitress to acknowledge we were there. I ordered a salad with grilled chicken and the salad was dry. No dressing at all. It is kind of hard to mess up a salad but they found a way to do so.

    Chicken Pot Pie

Went there with a party of 6 as a walk in and was very pleased. We got our food within 15 minutes of ordering, which was the biggest highlight. It is a good vibe with good lighting. The bar is nice, and our server was nice as well. I ordered their chicken pot pie and it was very good and hot. My Guinness was very good as well. Highly recommend checking this place out. My group thoroughly enjoyed the experience as well. Fair pricing for great quality.

Do they or don't they take reservations? i called and they said they take limited reservations... when i said party of 4 and the date they quickly said they're walk-up only... pretty rude.

I would assume they take reservations for large groups. I might be wrong - and I haven't confirmed this - but many restaurants want to plan ahead if your group is like 10 people. A group of 4 isn't considered a large group.

Deliciousness - 3/5 Happiness -5/5…read more This place is for drinkers as it has no food, so if you want to lift an ale (and go out for dinner before or after, or bring food in with you), this is the place to be. They have a large beer, wine, and liquor list (although not nearly as many English beers as I expected from a place called Crown & Crow). I won't deny that I wasn't a fan of either of the mixed cocktails I had, with both (including strangely a smoky drink) being too sweet. But the beer was expertly poured and the wine was a very generous serving. The prices are also more than reasonable, which is great for a DC bar. But what really elevates this place is the service. By late night, the place was jam packed. But each and every bartender was extremely friendly and they expertly worked the crowd, getting drinks served quickly (which too few places manage to do) and swiftly clearing off tables of dirty glasses. I also greatly appreciated the free goldfish that they happily dole out to the patrons. The staff made this a really good time.

The bartender in that area was friendly, but unhelpful, directing us to use the front room's bartender, even though she wasn't busy when we approached and asked for a couple of drinks. The bartender in the main room was great, he was very friendly and once he started a tab for me he said I could use the other bar too, I guess he wasn't aware the bartender at that other bar already told me she wouldn't help me. Regardless, the drinks we had were decent. For small bites, they only had gold fish crackers, I wish they would have had more to nosh on while drinking. Overall, not a bad visit.

A wee pricey for lunch for us on a regular basis with the portion size. 2 Lunch orders, 1 beer in a plastic cup, was a little over $70 (not with tip). Probably a one and done for us.

I visited as part of the full experience -- dinner downstairs at Birch & Barley, then up to Churchkey for drinks -- and honestly, it's one of the best evenings I've had in DC. Churchkey itself is everything a great bar should be. The beer selection is absolutely unreal -- hundreds of carefully curated labels spanning every style, region, and flavor profile you can imagine. What sets it apart is that the staff actually knows the menu. Our server walked us through a few options based on what we liked and landed us on perfect picks both times. That kind of genuine expertise is rare. The tavern pizzas from the wood-fired oven were a wonderful surprise -- thin, crispy, and the perfect companion to a cold draft. The smash burger also deserves a mention: simple, well-executed, and hits the spot. The vibe is warm and lively without being overwhelming. Great for a date, a group, or even just sitting at the bar solo with a good beer and good conversation with the bartender. This place has earned its reputation as one of the best beer bars on the East Coast -- and then some. Highly recommend making a full night of it with both floors. You won't regret it.
