Stopped here with a couple co-workers to grab some dinner a couple weeks ago when I was in DC. We were seated immediately (always nice in DC) and the hostess and server were both friendly and helpful. We started with an appetizer of roasted tomato and feta with pita and it was REALLY good. Elephant & Castle was absolutely packed yesterday. I'm grateful we had a reservation but it looked like they somehow still had space despite a group of 54+ come on right before us. I was sure service would be slow and the food would take forever to get to our group of six, but I was wrong. My cousin's young daughter was getting cranky so our server made sure to bring her food out first. MVP status! I got the shepherds pie, my aunt got the fish and chips, and the others got different dishes. Everyone seemed happy with their food. I liked my pie. It was solid and I'd get it again. I docked one star only because I have a thing about crumbs in booth cracks and under tables. Let me emphasize how busy they were, and that this is something that has always bugged me at many restaurants. I understand if cleaning under tables wasn't a priority yesterday. With that being said, the floor under our table was filthy. I was seated in our booth closest to the wall and there were large crumbs between the wall and the booth. I kept a solid six inches between myself, my purse and jacket, and the crack. I didn't want anything of mine touching that area. My cousin's kid kept slipping under the table because that's what little kids do, and it took everything in me not to say "nooo it's so gross under there." Rashaad was an awesome server and made sure we had everything we needed over the course of our dinner. We enjoyed Guiness and a coconut lychee margarita to start. In a word...meh. This place is large so it's good for a group but the food itself is just average. They have a selection of British type dishes in addition to the usual burgers and chicken sandwiches. I had the steak and mushroom pie and it was decent. The pastry was hot and fresh and the pie had a filling that was similar to a thick beef stew with beef and mushrooms. The filling was pretty good but could've used some more steak and mushrooms and maybe a few pearl onions and a little more flavor. It came with a spring mix salad with goat cheese and a vinaigrette dressing. The side salad was solid but unremarkable. Service was very fast and friendly and I was impressed. My team had a farewell lunch for our team member and they wanted to try this place. There aren't too many English restaurants in the area so I am always excited when I try one. I got the Sunday Roast served with mashed potatoes, green beans, Yorkshire pudding and some horseradish aioli. This was my first time having Yorkshire pudding and it was really good! Horribly run restaurant. Dirty dishes and tables everywhere, nobody cleaning them off but two hosts saying you can't sit at a clean table because they have 30 reservations. All the tables are empty. The ONLY positive was the bar staff who served food and drinks. Our table was filthy. I asked the person who delivered our food to please wipe off the table. It was never wiped off. Kennedy was our server and she was absolutely wonderful. We started with the wings and they were cooked perfectly. They even separated the two flavors so that the buffalo wings weren't touching the bbq. I really appreciated that. The butter chicken my daughter ordered tasted very odd to both of us. She tried to eat it, but it just wasn't very good. She ended up getting the chicken tenders because we were now pressed for time. They were good. I ordered the Jameson chicken. The dish was some of the best food I've eaten all year. My husband loved his fish and chips. The brownie tasted more like cake than brownie, but the ice cream was very good. Went there with a party of 6 as a walk in and was very pleased. We got our food within 15 minutes of ordering, which was the biggest highlight. It is a good vibe with good lighting. I LOVED loved LOVED my bee's knees drink as I've never had one outside of a canned cocktail. My date got a beer on tap and enjoyed it. We appreciated that she was able to taste two options to choose what she wanted. I ordered the wee pie flight and the pies had very flaky crusts. I think my favorite was the potato and leek one. The steak and mushroom had a wine taste to it still that felt it hadn't been cooked out enough. My date enjoyed their fish and chips and the poutine. Our host was super nice and she was funny as well. Have no complaints on the service as she checked on us regularly and made sure we didn't need anything. Nicole was an amazing server. She was so helpful. We walked in as a party of 16 when our lunch plans fell through. The restaurant easily helped us, got us seats and great service. They were in the middle of serving a party of 110 so they let us know it may take a little longer. We never would have known. I reviewed Elephant & Castle as it was close to the African American Museum in DC and we were planning a day trip. The menu was solid in that they offered a variety of food options for the easy to please and picky eaters. The price also seemed pretty reasonable. We arrived and was sat immediately. The place is a nice size I don't have many pics but it had a full bar and many many beer options. I don't drink so I didn't care much for it, but it is a pub after all. I did notice some wear and tear in the ceiling of where I sat that wasn't as obvious to at a glance. The restroom was also a little messy, but I can contribute that to possibly the busyness of the establishment because I noticed none of the staff were idle, everyone seemed busy working. The staff were courteous and attentive, especially our waiter. The food was good to me, as per my husband it was alright and it could've had more flavor. Nevertheless, no one got sick and we went home full. I got the falafel wrap and fried pickles , he got their onion soup and their take on a grilled cheese. I tried everything and liked it all, so I guess it depends on who is rating, lol For our meals and appetizers we paid $49, which was reasonable nowadays. If you're considering it, I'd say go for it. Our server, who was taking care of a group of like 12 of us that continued to grow as the night went on, was AMAZING. He literally was so attentive and kind and awesome that he made the night. Without him, I probably would have rated it 3 stars. I wasn't a huge fan of the food tbh. I got the Caesar wrap which said it came with blackened chicken (I don't know in what world that chicken was blackened... but not in this dimension). The wrap wasn't bad per se... but it wasn't great. The fries were also pretty meh. I think you go to this place for the ambiance and the drinks. It also is like SO close to everything that I'm sure it's a great place to meet up with friends. BIG space. Will note that a couple of my friends had the wings and said that they were very good. Possibly I just ordered the wrong thing. Also... probably should have tried the fish and chips. That's clearly their most popular menu item. But, let me tell you. Service was just TOP notch. Busy popular places are often good places, and Elephant & Castle was certainly that. This is a British themed restaurant and we all love British food. For lunch I had their Steak & Mushroom Pie, a wonderful bowl of food topped by a piece of pastry. The steak part was like ground steak nuggets so it was easy to eat. So we headed to Elephant and Castle and I would say overall it's a 3.5 out of 5. Our server was there on her last day so she wasn't the most attentive, however friendly she was. I had dropped my fork and it took a good 10 minutes to get her attention to get a new set of utensils. We shared the fried pickles which came with 2 sauces that we liked a lot, one of them being the curry ketchup. They weren't super busy which was weird, but we were just hungry and ready to eat. Service was fantastic, super quick the whole time, even the food. The bar is great too with awesome beer options. 11.24.23 This is a chain with a British pub feel serving beer and classic fare most notably fish & chips. The fish was flaky and delish, but the chips were just average. My hubby ordered the Butter Chicken and enjoyed it. (Side note: Indian cuisine is popular in England.) Our friend ordered the Chicken Pot Pie and enjoyed it too. Drinks were good. My husband ate here with a friend and I asked him to bring home the $12.50 Wee Pie Flight. We tried to call to confirm that this is what their pie flight consists of and it goes straight to voicemail (which is full). I don't really think small sauce containers of basically pie innards should cost $12.50 but who knows. Doesn't look like any of the pictures of the Flight here on yelp either. read more
