Our server Trip was absolutely amazing. Great service and food. Priced extremely reasonably for the area. Definitely recommend

Stopped here with a couple co-workers to grab some dinner a couple weeks ago when I was in DC. We were seated immediately (always nice in DC) and the hostess and server were both friendly and helpful. We started with an appetizer of roasted tomato and feta with pita and it was REALLY good. I ordered the fish and chips and it was actually the perfect serving size. Fries were well done as requested and the fish was excellent. Unfortunately, I forgot to take pix... I'd definitely come back. Very cool place, great service, and delicious food. read more

My book club met here and we had a great time! The food is incredibly affordable for downtown DC and they were able to put us at three different tables to mix and mingle. We got separate checks which was also incredibly helpful. They were out of a lot of ciders for an English pub, but that's ok. Fish and chips were delicious and I will certainly be back! read more

It's on Pennsylvania Avenue, but it feels pretty lackluster inside. This is a place you go with mates to have a few beers. The bacon blue cheese burger was pretty solid, but for being a British pub it really didn't have many British beer offerings. We had Sam Adam's beer, which was the happy hour special and felt a little bit rebellious. My parents had the fish and chips and it was greasy, but I was told the chips were good. Our server was attentive, but nothing very special from a service perspective. read more

Stopped in for lunch on 8/25. The service was very friendly and fast. I ordered the shepherds pie. It came with a side salad which was very delicious. The shepherds pie however was very gamey. I failed to read the ingredients- it was actually made with lamb and ground beef. Needless to say I was not a fan. The atmosphere was a pub style, bar like feel. A great place to watch games and have a cocktail or two. Overall, it was an ok experience. read more

Took a day off and ran into DC for some research work and exploration. Stopped here to kick off the day with pretzel bites with great cheese dip in cast iron. Then finished with Rueben sandwiche and chips which hit the spot. Staff was nice and early lunch crowd wasn't bad. Bar nicely stocked as well. read more

Came to watch the Netherlands game and food here was a lot better than I was expecting! Tasty British food that was very hearty and filling. I was definitely impressed from the pies and how savory they were. Ambiance was around the game, so it was quite hype. Service was fine. Kind of dark where we were sitting. I'd come again for British food. read more

Elephant & Castle was absolutely packed yesterday. I'm grateful we had a reservation but it looked like they somehow still had space despite a group of 54+ come on right before us. I was sure service would be slow and the food would take forever to get to our group of six, but I was wrong. My cousin's young daughter was getting cranky so our server made sure to bring her food out first. MVP status! I got the shepherds pie, my aunt got the fish and chips, and the others got different dishes. Everyone seemed happy with their food. I liked my pie. It was solid and I'd get it again. I docked one star only because I have a thing about crumbs in booth cracks and under tables. Let me emphasize how busy they were, and that this is something that has always bugged me at many restaurants. I understand if cleaning under tables wasn't a priority yesterday. With that being said, the floor under our table was filthy. I was seated in our booth closest to the wall and there were large crumbs between the wall and the booth. I kept a solid six inches between myself, my purse and jacket, and the crack. I didn't want anything of mine touching that area. My cousin's kid kept slipping under the table because that's what little kids do, and it took everything in me not to say "nooo it's so gross under there." Hopefully they're able to maintain a cleaner state on less hectic days! read more

Rashaad was an awesome server and made sure we had everything we needed over the course of our dinner. We enjoyed Guiness and a coconut lychee margarita to start. Then ordered fish and chips as well as the Sunday dinner (roast beef, mashed potato, sautéed veggies and yorkshire pudding) for our entrée and then a pimms cup because you gotta. :-) The fish was tender, but the roast beef was a little dry. Thank you for great service and chill atmosphere to watch the world cup. read more

In a word...meh. This place is large so it's good for a group but the food itself is just average. They have a selection of British type dishes in addition to the usual burgers and chicken sandwiches. I had the steak and mushroom pie and it was decent. The pastry was hot and fresh and the pie had a filling that was similar to a thick beef stew with beef and mushrooms. The filling was pretty good but could've used some more steak and mushrooms and maybe a few pearl onions and a little more flavor. It came with a spring mix salad with goat cheese and a vinaigrette dressing. The side salad was solid but unremarkable. Service was very fast and friendly and I was impressed. This place is okay and my meal was alright but there's a reason I haven't been here in years and won't be in a rush to come back read more

We stopped in for a bite to eat and a beer after exploring the nearby history museum. We were there during happy hour which was a good deal with discounted drinks. We sat at the bar and ordered a beer each and their shepherds pie. The shepherds pie was really tasty and filling. They served it with a delicious side salad. We both enjoyed it. Great servers. Upon walking in, I felt instantly transported into an old classic British Pub. I had the burger with chips(fries). Barbecue, cheese, bacon really added to the perfectly cooked and flavorful burger. My wife had the classic fish and chips. I'm not really a fish eater, but I have to admit I tried some with the Tatar sauce and it was great! It came alongside a great fresh slaw. The atmosphere was very welcoming and pleasant. The bar was full of people having fun and creating a great vibe about the place. I would come back anytime. read more

Visited during a busy lunch while the FIFA World Cup was on TV. We waiting less than 5 minutes to be seated and the staff were friendly. We sat outside and they had several additional TVs set up. 7/11/2026 - we came here a few days ago and love the bangers & mash with the fish n chips. Both days excellent food and lots of seats to select from. I highly recommend this place. 5 stars for this trip. Looking forward to being here for dinner to see Norway win the FIFA 2026 game tonight at 5pm!! Just ordered and we are out. Grabbed a table around 4:15pm and Norway & England tied at halftime 1-1 FIFA 2026. Off to hotel to finish the game. Total of 4 stars overall. We ordered the following which all were excellent. One of the best fish and chips I've had for the fish at least. Fires were to peppery and the tartar sauce was a knock off thousand island white dressing which was bad. Appetizers were fried pickle chips for 9, Pretzel bites for 14.50, don't eat the ham, all of it had cartilage, then side of poutine. All sides, starters and share plates were excellent. All 3 came out fast. Main meals were 2 fish & chips and the wee pie flight which was small portions of the signature pies which are Shepards pie, chicken pot my favorite here, then the cheesy level and potatoe pie. My least favorite was the steak and mushroom. Food 4 stars. Took a star off since they were out of beers I wanted and they never took any plates away from the appetizers. See photos of the food and the plates they never took away. read more

We experienced a fantastic group tour dinner on Monday, March 9th. Our group of 57 was in-and-out in one hour, as we then rushed to the Capitals game immediately after. Great selection of beers and drinks in a beautiful setting with absolutely no attention to service. We waited and watched six servers for 18 minutes on their phones after asking twice if we could order. There were 2 other tables in the entire place. When someone who looked managerial (was not in uniform) approached, I expected they would disperse but she only pulled up her IG and joined the phone party. And our bill with a suggested 30% tip was pure comedy. read more

This is a great place on the edge of the food desert. As such, it has reasonable priced food, beer selection, and great service. As an English style Pub, I was nervous about how the shepherds pie would come out. It was excellent. Great ratio of meat to potatoes. Beer selection was also quite good. Good selection of English ales, a bitter, and numerous IPAs on top. read more

Met a friend at this spot because it was within walking distance of my hotel in the rain. The space was busy but we were seated right away with our reservation. We both opted for the Lychee cocktail which was light and fragrant. I went with the Mediterranean Summer Skewers which was large and fresh. I prefer my hummus with more garlic to minimize the plain chickpea taste. I took a bread pudding to go and it was absolutely delightful. They offered two sauces and they really elevated the dessert. read more

Very sad experience. We came here for dinner with our two children. We understood that the restaurant was very busy, and we were patient. After our server took our drink and kids' menu orders, shdid not return for quite some time. No drinks or utensils had arrived, and only the kids' plates were brought to the table. When she finally came back, I simply said, "We haven't ordered our food yet." She responded sharply, "I know. I was just about to ask you. I'm taking care of four tables tonight and I'm very busy." We completely understood that she was busy. We were not complaining--we simply wanted to place our order. Being spoken to that way was frightening and upsetting, especially in front of our children. After that, we felt so uncomfortable. Unfortunately, this experience turned what should have been a happy memory into a very sad one. The food itself was fine, but the way we were treated made this a deeply disappointing experience. read more

Hopefully this is a one-off and not an indication of a gradual but sure decline. But wife and I had horrible table service - basically ignored by our waiter for almost 30 minutes. My team had a farewell lunch for our team member and they wanted to try this place. There aren't too many English restaurants in the area so I am always excited when I try one. I got the Sunday Roast served with mashed potatoes, green beans, Yorkshire pudding and some horseradish aioli. This was my first time having Yorkshire pudding and it was really good! Slightly crispy outside, but the inside was very airy and did a perfect job scooping up the gravy and aioli. The roast beef and sides were decent - good flavors and rich. This was a good lunch spot that I will definitely come back for some other English favorites! Entrees: Sunday Roast read more

We made reservations and arrived 30 minutes early. We were still seated, which was great. The restaurant had a nicely decorated and had plenty of space. Kennedy was our server and she was absolutely wonderful. We started with the wings and they were cooked perfectly. They even separated the two flavors so that the buffalo wings weren't touching the bbq. I really appreciated that. The butter chicken my daughter ordered tasted very odd to both of us. She tried to eat it, but it just wasn't very good. She ended up getting the chicken tenders because we were now pressed for time. They were good. I ordered the Jameson chicken. The dish was some of the best food I've eaten all year. My husband loved his fish and chips. The brownie tasted more like cake than brownie, but the ice cream was very good. I probably would not order this again. I really enjoyed the atmosphere, the service and the food. Would definitely return. read more

Horribly run restaurant. Dirty dishes and tables everywhere, nobody cleaning them off but two hosts saying you can't sit at a clean table because they have 30 reservations. All the tables are empty. The ONLY positive was the bar staff who served food and drinks. Our table was filthy. I asked the person who delivered our food to please wipe off the table. It was never wiped off. I LOVED loved LOVED my bee's knees drink as I've never had one outside of a canned cocktail. My date got a beer on tap and enjoyed it. We appreciated that she was able to taste two options to choose what she wanted. I ordered the wee pie flight and the pies had very flaky crusts. I think my favorite was the potato and leek one. The steak and mushroom had a wine taste to it still that felt it hadn't been cooked out enough. My date enjoyed their fish and chips and the poutine. Our host was super nice and she was funny as well. Have no complaints on the service as she checked on us regularly and made sure we didn't need anything. I would come back for another drink and maybe fish and chips next time plus the drink. It is very much a pub vibe so if that's not your thing, I wouldn't come but tables are outside and inside. Yelp came in handy for finding a place for lunch as we moved from one tourist destination to the next. It was busy, and noisy. Busy popular places are often good places, and Elephant & Castle was certainly that. This is a British themed restaurant and we all love British food. For lunch I had their Steak & Mushroom Pie, a wonderful bowl of food topped by a piece of pastry. The steak part was like ground steak nuggets so it was easy to eat. The thin gravy brought all the flavors together. Others at the table also went British and we all very much liked our food. Service was top notch, quick and very efficient. read more

They were in the middle of serving a party of 110 so they let us know it may take a little longer. We never would have known. Elephant & Castle - Here is my burger on a gf bun! - British Near Me - Washington, DC, District of Columbia

I reviewed Elephant & Castle as it was close to the African American Museum in DC and we were planning a day trip. The menu was solid in that they offered a variety of food options for the easy to please and picky eaters. The price also seemed pretty reasonable. We arrived and was sat immediately. The place is a nice size I don't have many pics but it had a full bar and many many beer options. I don't drink so I didn't care much for it, but it is a pub after all. I did notice some wear and tear in the ceiling of where I sat that wasn't as obvious to at a glance. The restroom was also a little messy, but I can contribute that to possibly the busyness of the establishment because I noticed none of the staff were idle, everyone seemed busy working. The staff were courteous and attentive, especially our waiter. The food was good to me, as per my husband it was alright and it could've had more flavor. Nevertheless, no one got sick and we went home full. I got the falafel wrap and fried pickles , he got their onion soup and their take on a grilled cheese. I tried everything and liked it all, so I guess it depends on who is rating, lol For our meals and appetizers we paid $49, which was reasonable nowadays. If you're considering it, I'd say go for it. Very close in proximity to the museums and they offer outdoor seating, which could be very nice I imagine during better weather. read more

Our server, who was taking care of a group of like 12 of us that continued to grow as the night went on, was AMAZING. He literally was so attentive and kind and awesome that he made the night. Without him, I probably would have rated it 3 stars. I wasn't a huge fan of the food tbh. I got the Caesar wrap which said it came with blackened chicken (I don't know in what world that chicken was blackened... but not in this dimension). The wrap wasn't bad per se... but it wasn't great. The fries were also pretty meh. I think you go to this place for the ambiance and the drinks. It also is like SO close to everything that I'm sure it's a great place to meet up with friends. BIG space. Will note that a couple of my friends had the wings and said that they were very good. Possibly I just ordered the wrong thing. Also... probably should have tried the fish and chips. That's clearly their most popular menu item. But, let me tell you. Service was just TOP notch. And the amount of TVs they have make it really good to watch any sports or what not. read more
