Came to watch the Netherlands game and food here was a lot better than I was expecting! Tasty British food that was very hearty and filling. I was definitely impressed from the pies and how savory they were. Ambiance was around the game, so it was quite hype. Service was fine. Kind of dark where we were sitting. I'd come again for British food.

Rashaad was an awesome server and made sure we had everything we needed over the course of our dinner. We enjoyed Guiness and a coconut lychee margarita to start. Then ordered fish and chips as well as the Sunday dinner (roast beef, mashed potato, sautéed veggies and yorkshire pudding) for our entrée and then a pimms cup because you gotta. :-) The fish was tender, but the roast beef was a little dry. Thank you for great service and chill atmosphere to watch the world cup.

The steak and mushroom pie was absolutely delicious! My husband had the shepherd's pie and we started with an order of the brussels sprouts. All of the food was delicious but the service was not the best. It was slow, forgetful and it was not even busy during our visit.

In a word...meh. This place is large so it's good for a group but the food itself is just average. They have a selection of British type dishes in addition to the usual burgers and chicken sandwiches. I had the steak and mushroom pie and it was decent. The pastry was hot and fresh and the pie had a filling that was similar to a thick beef stew with beef and mushrooms. The filling was pretty good but could've used some more steak and mushrooms and maybe a few pearl onions and a little more flavor. It came with a spring mix salad with goat cheese and a vinaigrette dressing. The side salad was solid but unremarkable. Service was very fast and friendly and I was impressed. This place is okay and my meal was alright but there's a reason I haven't been here in years and won't be in a rush to come back

We stopped in for a bite to eat and a beer after exploring the nearby history museum. We were there during happy hour which was a good deal with discounted drinks. We sat at the bar and ordered a beer each and their shepherds pie. The shepherds pie was really tasty and filling. They served it with a delicious side salad. We both enjoyed it. The service was good and it was a nice casual vibe. Overall, it's a cool spot and I'd return next time I'm in the area.

7/11/2026 - we came here a few days ago and love the bangers & mash with the fish n chips. Both days excellent food and lots of seats to select from. I highly recommend this place. 5 stars for this trip. Looking forward to being here for dinner to see Norway win the FIFA 2026 game tonight at 5pm!! Just ordered and we are out. Grabbed a table around 4:15pm and Norway & England tied at halftime 1-1 FIFA 2026. Off to hotel to finish the game. Total of 4 stars overall. We ordered the following which all were excellent. One of the best fish and chips I've had for the fish at least. Fires were to peppery and the tartar sauce was a knock off thousand island white dressing which was bad. Appetizers were fried pickle chips for 9, Pretzel bites for 14.50, don't eat the ham, all of it had cartilage, then side of poutine. All sides, starters and share plates were excellent. All 3 came out fast. Main meals were 2 fish & chips and the wee pie flight which was small portions of the signature pies which are Shepards pie, chicken pot my favorite here, then the cheesy level and potatoe pie. My least favorite was the steak and mushroom. Food 4 stars. Took a star off since they were out of beers I wanted and they never took any plates away from the appetizers. See photos of the food and the plates they never took away.

A nice pub in the heart of DC. They have a nice bar area plus plenty of seating for big groups. They have excellent service. They feature a pot pie flight that includes shepherds pie. The pies are delicious with flaky crust. They come with a nice house salad. The perfect meal on a rainy day.

This is a great place on the edge of the food desert. As such, it has reasonable priced food, beer selection, and great service. As an English style Pub, I was nervous about how the shepherds pie would come out. It was excellent. Great ratio of meat to potatoes. Beer selection was also quite good. Good selection of English ales, a bitter, and numerous IPAs on top.

Met a friend at this spot because it was within walking distance of my hotel in the rain. The space was busy but we were seated right away with our reservation. We both opted for the Lychee cocktail which was light and fragrant. I went with the Mediterranean Summer Skewers which was large and fresh. I prefer my hummus with more garlic to minimize the plain chickpea taste. I took a bread pudding to go and it was absolutely delightful. They offered two sauces and they really elevated the dessert.

Great food and drinks! Well priced and delicious, attentive servers. Had the butter chicken and a spritzer, both were amazing.

My team had a farewell lunch for our team member and they wanted to try this place. There aren't too many English restaurants in the area so I am always excited when I try one. I got the Sunday Roast served with mashed potatoes, green beans, Yorkshire pudding and some horseradish aioli. This was my first time having Yorkshire pudding and it was really good! Slightly crispy outside, but the inside was very airy and did a perfect job scooping up the gravy and aioli. The roast beef and sides were decent - good flavors and rich. This was a good lunch spot that I will definitely come back for some other English favorites! Entrees: Sunday Roast

We stopped in for a meal but unfortunately I was not impressed. We were seated and forgotten. I had to go to the bartender in order to get a waitress to acknowledge we were there. I ordered a salad with grilled chicken and the salad was dry. No dressing at all. It is kind of hard to mess up a salad but they found a way to do so.

We wear weary travelers looking for a pub style restaurant. After a long day touring DC by foot we stumbled onto the Elephant & Castle. Six of us from Long Island enjoyed our delicious meals and drinks. All was served hot and timely. All very reasonably priced. Our server "Trip" made our visit delightful. She was courteous and menu knowledgeable. We will be returning very soon.

Do they or don't they take reservations? i called and they said they take limited reservations... when i said party of 4 and the date they quickly said they're walk-up only... pretty rude.

I would assume they take reservations for large groups. I might be wrong - and I haven't confirmed this - but many restaurants want to plan ahead if your group is like 10 people. A group of 4 isn't considered a large group.

The drinks are a good price and they stock classic British pub favourites from Magners Apple on tap to a large variety of Irish whiskey. The food is very reminiscent of british pub food. Of course nothing will compare to English chippy battered sausages in size and taste but these one were still good and reminded me of home! The servers were wonderful and kind! I ordered the SW Salad ($16.50) with a steak add on ($9.00) at medium temp. I also ordered a cup of Clam Chowder ($5.95) as an appetizer. Chowder came out pretty much right on top of my salad, but no big deal. Chowder was decent taste, but only found one clam. Ok whatever. Salad came out looking like a side salad on a large plate with five slices of rare, tough steak. It was so rare, that it was extremely hard to cut through, but again, who was I going to talk to about it. No wait staff would even look my way. I couldn't even get a refill on my water and there is no place in the app to order a glass of water...so that's that. Unfortunately it was just an extremely bad experience for $40. I visited as part of the full experience -- dinner downstairs at Birch & Barley, then up to Churchkey for drinks -- and honestly, it's one of the best evenings I've had in DC. Churchkey itself is everything a great bar should be. The beer selection is absolutely unreal -- hundreds of carefully curated labels spanning every style, region, and flavor profile you can imagine. What sets it apart is that the staff actually knows the menu. Our server walked us through a few options based on what we liked and landed us on perfect picks both times. That kind of genuine expertise is rare. The tavern pizzas from the wood-fired oven were a wonderful surprise -- thin, crispy, and the perfect companion to a cold draft. The smash burger also deserves a mention: simple, well-executed, and hits the spot. The vibe is warm and lively without being overwhelming.
