Ham and cheese empanadas with chimichurri was incredible! The tres leches is the best I've ever had! The friendliest staff and extremely helpful!

Finally! A restaurant with real pastries! I popped into Elena's for a late solo lunch and I was pleasantly surprised. The restaurant was cozy and cute. There were pastries everywhere, which was overwhelming in a good way. I started out with the chicken Milanese sandwich, which was the top recommendation from the waitress. The bread was so soft and delicious, it melted in my mouth. I also tried the spinach and cheese and the corn empanadas. I had absolutely no complaints. Everything was fresh and delicious. I will definitely go there more often for lunch. It's a convenient place to grab a bit while you work. I will be back!!

Today's visit was based on my date's desire to try something familiar to her native palate. Elena's is between the two of us, so we decided to met there to try their Argentinian and other Latin cuisine. The interior is pretty no nonsense, but nice, with floor space dominated by moderate seating and large displays showcasing sweet offerings. I ordered the Lomito Argentino with fries, and she ordered the Milanese meal with Russian potato salad on the side The food was tasty, though a little salty for my preference. My date thought her Russian potato salad was a little dry and underseasoned. She added an order of café de Leche at the end of the meal and was extremely underwhelmed with the paper cup it was delivered to the table in. Plus, according to her, it wasn't hot. She felt if they had used a ceramic coffee cup they could've served it hotter. That said, she did leave with a box full of pastries to take home to her family. So in the grand scheme, she may be a lot happier now than she was right after our meal concluded. I would like to go back to try some of their pasta dishes. They sounded amazing.

The food was delicious! I tasted my friend's lasagna and the flavor was off the charts! The beef and chicken empanadas were amazing! I had the chicken parm but will definitely get the lasagna next visit. Sabrina and Michelle were so helpful. Everyone was very friendly! I can't forget the pastries, so good!

Very cute (and clean spot). Service was great! Staff was very welcoming and friendly. Argentinian empanadas are the BEST so if you've never tried them before I recommend getting one of each :)

I had the opportunity to visit this Hometown feel of Gastonia, North Carolina . What a pleasant visit it was. Greeted by a very enthusiastic and knowledgeable staff employee named Natalie. She proceeded to tell me more about the culture of the Argentinian way and the various foods and delicacies of the country that is so warming and welcome. Her story of how she knew the owners is a very testament of what God can do in a person's life to be the light - An example of all of us. Although I had the latte, it was very delicious and I knew the food would be excellent in this quaint town of diversity. Thank you, Natalie for sharing your heart and desire with others on the Argentina road to health. Try it out.. Your senses will be Refreshed!!

    Es lo que quedo. Riquísimo!

Yo ordene un cake de 3 leches y estaba delicioso. La presentación y maestria de sabor es una delicia al paladar.

Elena's Argentinian Cafe is currently celebrating their grand opening, and you should get there ASAP! The customer service is top-notch! The girl who helped me today (I didn't get her name) was incredibly friendly! She had a smile that never faded! I asked her what the pastry was that I ultimately bought (I've uploaded a picture), and she told me the name and gave me a description of it that made it impossible to pass on! Unfortunately I've forgotten what it was called (in my defense, I'm painfully Caucasian so the name went in one ear and out the other). The coffee was also delicious! And the prices are incredibly great for the quality! There are tables that you can sit at if you choose to eat in, and the shop is quiet and welcoming! I will absolutely be going back time and time again! Everything in there looks delicious!

The empanadas are fantastic and they offer an amazing assortment of pastries for dessert (or a mid-day treat).

Michelle was AMAZING -- what stood out most was the pride she took in serving us each dish, lovingly prepared by her own mother-in-law.

I just love the partnerships that food trucks and breweries have established. Great for people like me who don't drink, but who are married/hang out with people who like to drink LOL. Gives me something to enjoy while they enjoy their draaaaanks. - Noms - I placed my order and they gave me a pager so that I could go back to our table inside while I waited. We ordered a variety of things to sample all the goodness! *Sàndwich "Gaucho" - my husband ordered this sandwich and I should have gotten it for myself too. This is on French bread, with tender piece of thin steaks, dressed with lettuce, tomato and their Chimichurri sauce and that sauce is money! This sandwich was my favorite out of all the things that we ordered and I'm not really a sando person. *Sàndwich de Milanesa con Lechuga y Tomate - I didn't want to order two of the same things, since I like to sample as many different things as I can. Also on French bread, there were thin breaded steaks (it must have been panko because it was nice and crispy), dressed with chimi-mayo, lettuce and tomato. The chimi-mayo mix did not have enough chimichurri to my personal taste so I took some of the Chimichurri sauce from the empanadas and spread it all over and that made the sando even better. So I suggest getting the extra chimichurri sauce. It's $0.50. *Papas Fritas Baires - No frozen fries here. French fries were fresh with generous amount of Chimichurri sauce and parm. Very flavorful! *Empanada de carne - very tasty! Tasted fresh and fried to order. *Flan casero con dulce de leche - The dulce de leche on top was rich and to die for! It was so, so good. My only feedback is that the flan part was a bit more on the eggy side, than the creamy side, if you know what I mean. Either way, I had no problems finishing it! -TLC- The lady who took care of us was super sweet. She made sure we had everything we needed and made any recommendations when asked. AVL is lucky to have Baires! I will be on the lookout for them again when we come back to AVL! Stay safe, Friends!

My husband and daughter both enjoyed their steaks and had no complaints about their meals. Unfortunately, my experience was quite different. I ordered the scallops. After taking a few bites of the first one, I noticed something tasted off but initially thought it might just be me. I cut into a second scallop and while the first taste seemed normal, the more I chewed it, the stronger a chemical-like flavor became. The only way I could describe it was that it tasted like cleaning products. When I mentioned it to our waitress, she immediately asked if it tasted like ammonia. I said yes, exactly. She told me that sometimes this happens but assured me it wasn't because the scallops were bad. She offered to replace my meal and suggested lamb, which I don't eat, so i choose the chicken dish she suggested instead. By the time the replacement arrived, my husband and daughter were nearly finished with their meals, and honestly, I had lost my appetite. The chicken was somewhat dry, although the potatoes were very good. I only ate a couple of bites. What disappointed me most was the lack of management involvement. At no point did a manager visit our table to discuss the issue, apologize, or check on the situation. After the replacement meal, we were simply presented with the bill. We weren't asked if we would like to look at the desert menu and I was charged for the chicken replacement that I took two bites from. After getting home, I researched scallops with an ammonia taste and found that it can indicate handling or freshness issues. Thankfully, I haven't become seriously ill, though I did experience an upset stomach for the entire evening afterward. I'm glad my husband and daughter enjoyed their meals and I had been looking forward to trying this restaurant for quite some time. Unfortunately, based on my experience, I won't be returning. We were impressed by the interest and fanfare this post-Helene event created for the locals. Parking on the street, across the street or a short way up the street is town free parking. Shannon and Rain were our friendly and helpful servers. There are many seating options. We chose the sun room which was comfortable. Others were seated outside on the side porch and several people were inside. We shared a bowl of the delicious French onion soup. Eat it while it's hot for the best experience. The buckwheat crepes were the perfect consistency to handle the savory entrees. My Market crepe was packed full of goodies including the sausage add-on. Each ingredient stood well on its own. The pesto was a standout. My partner got the mushroom crepe with chicken. She enjoyed immensely. Both entrees came with a fresh greens and balsamic dressing. The servings were generous enough to bring two halves home for dinner. Sharing soup and a savory crepe is a reasonable strategy if leaving leftovers in your vehicle during the summer heat is a concern. We joined the servers on the patio to watch the return of the train through a nicely recovering town.
