I used to spend a LOT of time each day standing in front of my closet and wondering what to wear…read more.. I felt like I had some nice clothes, shoes and jewelry, but I could never seem to pull a legit outfit together. I was constantly envious of people that looked "put together". While venting about my closet, a friend recommended Liz. I was a little hesitant - a stylist is expensive, right? And don't they usually just help celebrities and other fancy people, rather than normal people like me? In any event, I decided to hire Liz to clean out my closet. Honestly, I was somewhat unprepared when she took *most* of my closet to consignment. However, Liz reminded me that my closet was in dire need of an update, explained that some basic items and a few nicer pieces would transform my look to be much more age appropriate and sophisticated, and assured me that the cost was much more reasonable than I had anticipated. Although still hesitant, I agreed to go shopping with her, and quite honestly, I couldn't be happier! Even though I typically hate shopping (being in stores for forever, trying things on and not knowing if they look good, spending money on items and not knowing how I plan to wear them, etc... ), shopping with Liz is an entirely different experience . You are in and out of a store in a flash, after trying on tons of clothes, and you know that what you are buying is good quality, will be incorporated into legit outfits and worn often! Since working with Liz, I am not stressed about getting dressed and do not feel overwhelmed when I look in my closet, as I only see clothes that I know I will wear, that I want to wear, that I know look good on me, and that I know will last for years. And the best part - Liz created style sheets for me with 20-25 outfits per season, detailing all items and accessories. They make getting dressed so easy, stress-free and fun! I finally feel like when I get dressed, I look "put together"!

Liz did wonders for my home and my wardrobe…read more 1.5 years ago I was frustrated. I had decorated my 1960s ranch style home with a mix of Mid Century modern, some industrial and vintage pieces that I loved, BUT it wasn't cohesive. I had scoured all the websites (Houzz, Dwell, Apt Therapy) and attempted to create the feel of what I knew I wanted on my own. However; the result was haphazard at best. Working with Liz was the best thing I could have done. She really is a genius when it comes to working with my base style and bringing everything into focus and making every piece pop. She is so quick too. By reorganizing, removing items that "cluttered" up the place and painting the walls a different color - my home was transformed. Everyone that comes to my house comments on how great it looks and how it represents "my style". And every day when I sit on my couch enjoying the look and feel of my home, I think to myself "why did I wait so long??". So here I am 1.5 years later. I knew what Liz was capable of....she had revamped the wardrobes of 2 of my friends, she did an amazing job on my home - why was I waiting to get her help on *my* wardrobe? I feel I gravitate to a certain style - slightly conservative, with a love of menswear style shoes(wingtips, loafers, loafers with tassels....you get the picture) , a little nerdy with a dash of vintage. BUT like my home - even tho I have some great pieces, I had been a stuck in a rut, making sure everything matched and the result was uninspired. Liz had a great process for the wardrobe revamp. Not one second was wasted. The process is as follows: 1. Check out my closet (20 minutes at most) 2. Shop for pieces that I was missing (I'm sure this varies by client, but we only shopped at 1 place for 1.5 hours - then we were done!) She worked well within my budget. 3. Order items from online. I wear size 5 in shoes, so it's impossible to find anything locally, she had me order several pairs of shoes with the idea I would only keep a few and send the rest back. 4. Once I had everything - she came over and had me try on various outfits(shoes included) and the ones that worked, she wrote down 5. Go through my closet and throw items not being used in the donate pile. It was a BIG pile...all those shoes from the 1990s = GONE. Items that didn't suite me anymore = GONE. 6. She met me at the tailor and directed sleeve length and hem length. I'm short 4'10" - so many things had to be altered. 7. 1 day later she emailed me a detailed sheet of 22 amazing outfits! 8. Learning from her expertise - speaking to how to lengthen my short stature, how to mix up unexpected pieces - I'm quite sure I can come up with many more variations of outfits. Closing thoughts: She quickly picked up on my nerdy slightly vintage style. Her process style isn't "cookie cutter" - it's based on YOU and only YOU. What works for me probably wouldn't work on anyone else. Every outfit pops and brings my style into focus. Several of the outfits are made up of only items that I already owned. Other outfits incorporated the keys pieces purchased during our shopping trip. While wearing my outfits, several people have asked me if I have lost weight. Nope, Liz just knows out to put things together to bring out your best. i thought it would be hard to let go of stuff, but when I saw how MANY great outfits I had to wear, I loaded up the donate pile and headed straight to the Goodwill. My closet is so streamlined and my dresser drawers so spacious. Why did I wait so long??

I did not really have any sense of style. Rare were the days I actually felt good about getting dressed. When I was introduced to the idea of a personal stylist and actually assessed my wardrobe, I realized I seriously needed one. Confronted with the challenge of finding the right stylist, I took to Google for some in-depth research. There are plenty of stylists in Denver, but when Google connected me with The Shopping Friend I knew I had found the right place. After I filled out the style questionnaire on their website, Michelle got back to me with recommended stylists on her team based on my needs. I decided to purchase a style package that combined a closet consultation and personal shopping spree and worked directly with Michelle. The Shopping Friend uses a discovery process to get to know you, and your goals before your appointment even begins. Despite the fact that I am generally bad with new people I felt super comfortable around Michelle from the get go. She is amazingly friendly, supportive, and just an awesome person in general. It almost felt like I had known her for years. The closet consultation confirmed my fears - I did not own a single piece of clothing that actually fit me well. My clothes were communicating a bad message every time I wore them. You might think that sounds pretty dire, but Michelle is a miracle worker - I'm convinced if styling was a chess match she'd destroy Bobby Fischer ten times out of ten. After the closet consultation was finished, we spent the rest of the day on a shopping expedition at the Cherry Creek Mall. Shopping in general is something that's always been a bit of a drag on me, but with Michelle there it transformed into something truly fun. It was like shopping with your best friend, except your best friend suddenly gained complete mastery of knowledge on style. Time was flying like getting lost in a good book, except I was one of the main characters in this story. Michelle knew what looked good on me and helped me understand why certain looks were good while others just did not work for me. The clothes she found for me emphasized strong features of my body type while minimizing the weaker ones. So many things were things I normally would have even considered trying, but once I had tried them on I realized that they actually worked really well for me. In the day I spent shopping with Michelle I learned more about style than the first 26 years of my life put together. Now I notice all sorts of details I never had about other people's outfits. I feel like Neo right after he took the Red Pill in The Matrix - I have woken up to an entirely new world. By the end of the day we had built up a versatile set of basics (appropriate both personally and professionally) in a style that better communicated who I am - and we managed to get it done within the budget parameters I had set before the appointment! The results are already speaking volumes. On a personal level, for the first time in my life I'm actually excited about getting dressed in the morning. I feel so much more confident about what I'm wearing, and that confidence is starting to rub off on my mentality in other areas of life too. Reflecting on it, it's as if my old clothes were weighing down on my energy like New Jersey Mafioso had tied cinder blocks to my legs and dropped me in the Hudson River. Now I have been freed from those bonds and I'm not just out of the river, but I'm ready to climb the Empire State Building. On the first day after our excursion I wore one of my new outfits to work and pretty much every woman under the age of 40 in my office made some sort of positive comment when they saw me, completely unsolicited. I got comments ranging from 'You look super snazzy today' to 'Did you lose weight?'. And those reactions were just from an outfit that is the most basic of my new normal. I had NEVER gotten any compliments on my style prior to working with Michelle, but it is a welcome change. Investments can be scary for some people, but you'll never regret investing in yourself. Your personal style is your first wordless communication to the countless people your path crosses with every day. If you ever feel you need help finding yours, or redefining it, I would highly recommend going to The Shopping Friend to help you through that journey - regardless of if you are male or female. From my experience with them I can confidently say that they are among the best of the best at what they do. I will definitely be going back as I build out the rest of my wardrobe!
