We wanted to convert the front yard of our home from turf to desert native plants. We also wanted to eliminate all the turf in the back yard and replace it with good quality artificial turf. Total amount of turf conversion amounted to about 3,700 square feet. After interviewing three landscaping businesses at our home, we hired Elements Landscape. From the onset, Rooseveldt Alvidrez impressed us with his professionalism and his competitive price. He provided a beautiful video which incorporated our desires, along with his own suggestions. His plan was professional and inclusive enough to gain approval of our neighbors, HOA, and it satisfied the CVWD requirements to enable us to receive a rebate for the turf conversion. The quality of Elements Landscape work was top notch. The crew was clearly experienced. We are totally happy with the results. Job was to implement our landscape plan -removed 850 sq, ft. of grass, graded area, installed120 feet of steel landscape edging, moved irrigation for remaining grass, and installed irrigation for and planted 35 plants - Fruitless Olive trees, Gardenias, Bougainvillea, Ixora, Crepe Jasmine, Deer Grass and Russian Blue Sage. After the plantings, they covered the entire area with mulch They did this in two days with 6 individuals. Other bids suggested 1-2 weeks elapsed time. Many advantages of having it done in a condensed time period. Most importantly, they did a high quality job. They graded the area well. They adjusted the grass sprinkler heads to reflect the shorter distance needed for coverage and tested that zone. They were able to bend the steel edging to accommodate the design flow and it was level. There is a proper was to plant and place mulch around plants to ensure they thrive. They know how to do this. Roosevelt walked through what needed to be done with one of his guys. As they worked, it became obvious they had done this many times before. They had the right equipment (e.g. sod cutter ), they worked well together, and worked hard. They cleaned up everything and were easy to work with. After failing miserably at landscaping our own backyard, we decided to seek professional help. The curious thing is that it is more difficult to find a landscape designer than one might think. We were looking for a company to help design and more importantly make plant recommendations. We interviewed several landscapers, but most were not helpful with plant selection which was our main objective so as not to continue planting things that cannot survive the extreme desert heat. After meeting with a half dozen companies, we quickly realized that there were only two choices. We asked both to bid on the project. One company that will remain nameless was over two times more expensive. We settled on Elements Landscaping and could not be happier. Roosevelt and his crew were awesome. After selecting the plant species, we were off and running. The specimens that arrived to be planted were beautiful. The guys who did the work were efficient and seemed to really care about the work they performed. Over two days we had old gravel removed along with a bunch of dirt in the existing planters. We had thirty plants either transplanted or newly planted. During the process they placed weed barrier before installing new gravel. At the end of each day there was no sign of them even being there. I can't say enough kind things about Elements Landscape and the owner, Roosevelt. We bought a great, brand new house and moved in 2 years ago. We installed the back yard, including pool, last year. It came with a free front yard. Sometimes free is worth exactly what you paid for it. By the time we decided to re-landscape the front, it was looking like a vacant lot. We decided to go with a classic French design of all succulents. We interviewed 5 contractors. The 2 least expensive were not up to the attention to detail we were expecting. Elements had the lowest bid of the 3 who had the skill to do the job as designed. Roosevelt uses standard costing, so projecting the cost effect of changes, and there will be changes, was easy. The cost of the front yard came in at $138 below what I'd projected by the time we'd changed everything, like some of the plants, groundcover material, etc., along the way. The materials usage was generous. The detail work was spectacular. Elements planted 30 plants in my front yard. One would up 18 inches off. One wound up 12 inches off. One is 6 inches off. The other 27 are spot on to the centimeter. They offered to move the 3, but sometimes happy accidents make a design better. We kept them where they were. The rock work was equally spectacular, especially the lines along the borders. Then there's Roosevelt's plant sourcing skills. I didn't want anything ordinary. I got what I wanted. We also had them do a facelift in the back yard. We'd initially planted Lavender. It doesn't do well in the desert in full sun. It also didn't work for the space. Again, spectacular. The cost of the front yard and the facelift in the back was $1,100 less than the highest bid for just the front yard. Of course, a picture is worth a thousand words. I guess if someone thinks Thomas Kinkaid is actually art, they might not be impressed. We think it's smashing. Oh, forgot to mention: Roosevelt and his crew were pleasant to do business with, they showed up when projected, and while there were delays (there are always delays in construction), most of those were because Roosevelt needed to source some plant. read more
