There are two sisters that own the company and they are so sweet... In the dance business for over 30 years. This was my first year with them and I have two little beginner dancers. There are girls and boys (not many... but they are there) in the classes. Our classes ran from september till June. The school is reasonable and if you miss your scheduled lesson, you have the option to make it up on an alternate day as long as the same age group has a class - only problem is the different day may be doing a different routine. We just had our first dance recital. The costumes were priced reasonably and they were beautiful. The recital was at CSI and the venue was very nice for all. I really love all the instructors and the staff. I will be re-enrolling my girls here in the fall and highly reccomend this dance school to beginner dance families and experienced. They have extra classes in addition to tap and ballet and extra dance companies and clinics. Don't hesitate to enroll here!

I respect others opinion but I like to express mine when it comes to sending my daughter to Dance,…read moreDance, Dance... I understand some of the reasoning behind teachers not wanting parents to watch during classes: I am totally against allowing parents to watch the class each week. I believe parents watching the class is a real distraction for the children. After all it is a 'class' where the children are learning... you aren't allowed to sit and watch your children at primary/high school to ensure they are progressing and behaving. Most teachers like myself are happy to talk to parents after class if they have any queries about their child. I am VERY against parents watching! Whenever they come into the room, they watch so closely and carefully, and all the girls get distracted by them! I don't think that parents should be able to watch dance classes, and thankfully they don't at the dance school my daughter attends. Dancing is a SCHOOL. DO parents watch their children 24/7 at SCHOOL? I don't think so! Dancing should be just the same! * If you watch the classes every week, then by the time the concert has come, parents aren't surprised and entertained by the routines. * You can't tell how much your child has improved by watching every week, as compared to once-a-year concerts or comps. * It is scary when you have, say 15 parents watching you closely each week. It leaves no time for imagination in class, and it all has to be work, work, work otherwise the parents might get angry. * If a student just started and is not doing well since it's their first time, they don't want 15 parents staring at then. This will prevent the child/ren not to participate because all eyes are on her. Having parents stay in the dance class is easily distracted and tends to make other students nervous. I think this is part of the reason's parents are not allowed to watch. Having been in both situations, I would say it's better for the parents to not watch, because otherwise it makes it so much harder for the child As far as the staff. I love that they are straight to the point. Yes, it may come off to some parents as if they are being rude but trust me, they are not. They don't sugar coat anything. They care about what they are doing. I love that they are an actual dance school that teaches just as if they were in a classroom. The structure they provided allows the students to build character and believe in themselves. We are the biggest critics when we are looking at our children at dance. Enough to get upset because we feel they are not paying attention. This could live a big impact on your child/ren because now they don't know who is correct you the parent or the teacher who is certified to teach the class. Ms. Melluzzo

This place is located on Main Street in Woodbridge…read more I came here 3 months before my wedding to request private lessons for my wedding song. My then fiancé and I wanted to be able to dance well together for our guests (and the video!). When I got there, the young lady at the front desk was very pleasant and told me to leave my number and that the instructor would call me. Common and simple enough. A whole week went by and I didn't get a call back. So I called them. The same pleasant young lady answered and apologized for the instructor not getting back to me. She said the instructor had gotten them message and she would tell her again. Another week went by and nothing. I stopped by in person again and saw a different person in the front and explained the situation and how now we were less than 3 months out for the wedding. She approve and said would relay the message to the instructor. Another week went by, nothing. I finally gave up and went to the Fred Astaire Dance Studio in Westfield. It was SUPER expensive and we were short on time but they got the job done. I was very disappointed in Across the Floor. At least have the courtesy to call me back and tell me you weren't available or some other lie. Unreal how unprofessional and unresponsive. Do NOT recommend.

I came here through an online deal for 2 private dance lessons and 2 group lessons. I purchased…read morethe deal because I was interested in practicing Salsa and specified this when I called to make my appointment for the lesson. I was assured by the woman on the phone that I would be able to take Salsa lessons as I had requested. On my first day I took a group Foxtrot and Rumba lesson. It wasn't really a "group" lesson, because only one other person showed up. Anyway, I wasn't too interested in learning these dances, but it was an "experience." So when it came time for my private lesson, I was surprised when the majority of the lesson was reiterating what I had just learned in the group lesson- not Salsa as I specified. The same thing happened with my second lesson- more very basic steps of dances I was not interested in. Although I did not learn the dance I wanted, I thought everyone seemed friendly and genuinely wanted to be there. After my second lesson, the owner took me inside a "sales" room to introduce me to the private dance packages which I was almost interested in buying- until he told me the price. There is not way I could've spent hundreds of dollars on lessons as he requested- and there was no room for negotiation (I tried). It seems that they only teach you very basic steps to reel you into buying an expensive package to learn the dances that you really want.

Don't listen to the "teenager" who angry posted about this dance studio. She apparently didn't have…read morethe skill, the desire and the determination to become a great dancer with that "attitude". Anyway, I grew up and danced with both owners. I believe I know some of the other teachers there as well. CDE's level of teaching dance supersedes that of any other dance school in the entire tri-state area. Bank on that. Many of their students have gone on to the best Performing Arts High Schools as well as top notch Colleges. Many/most students get scholarships and are awarded high honors, join a major ballet company, end up on Broadway (Rockettes or Musicals), or teach at prestigious dance companies all over the globe. Competitive? Yes, of course. They are great enough to be. If your child has the skill and the drive to take it all the way then you WANT CDE. You want them to be trained by the best in the business. If you want to be coddled, lied to, and to be taken advantage of financially: go to a dance school that has the teacher's name in it. Ms Joy's School of Dance will gladly take your money and lie to your child about his/her skill level. Think of it like this: if your child wants to dance as a once a week hobby or a recreation: CDE might not be the place for them but they will make sure they dance like a pro anyway. If you think your kid may want a lifelong career in dance, desire to try out for any of the tv dance shows out there, compete at a high level, dance on Broadway, teach dance, or anything of the sort: you WANT CDE.

The skills of the dancers were absolutely solid, the choreography was beautiful, the choices of music and numbers were modern and beautifully executed and the costumes were stunning. I felt that I was at a professional dancing company performance the whole time. I loved how they integrated classical ballet techniques into the non-ballet numbers to showcase the solid skil-set foundation of their students. All in all, I was immensely impressed. Spectacular job of both teachers and students! Congratulations to owners, teachers and all the dancers on a fantastic performance and thank you to Christina Manousos for graciously providing me with an opportunity to watch it.
