I had a popcorn machine rented from MacFarlands for a recent event where we were going to pick up said machine. Unfortunately some things came up and picking up the machine was going to be tricky. I placed a call to them the morning of our event and the woman I spoke with was able to rearrange their delivery schedule to drop off the popcorn machine at our event venue, along with extra popcorn supplies. I didn't deal with them for the initial rental, but based on the easy, no-fuss way they were able to accommodate the change and help make my day a little bit easier I would absolutely use them again for any event rental needs. And the price of the last minute delivery was completely reasonable, which was just the cherry on top of my experience! read more

If you're looking to rent chairs and wedding do-dads MacFarland's is one of your only options in Halifax. It's the most economic option for sure. I called several other rental services, many of which seemed a little too fly by night, but decided on MacFarland's because of the helpfulness and friendliness of their staff. I wasn't sure exactly how many cups, saucers, forks, spoons, and plates I needed. They assured me they rent to hundreds of weddings and helped me decide on a good number. Everything we rented arrived in good condition, and was of high quality. When I was ordering I had decided on a certain set of plates, but the customer service lady told advised against it. Apparently the online pictures didn't show the true colour or design correctly, and she always wanted to make sure the bride was happy with what she was ordering. I went with her advice and loved the look of the other dinnerware we ordered. We also ordered about 24 chairs. Since our wedding was on a Sunday, we didn't have to return them until end of day on Monday. The extra time really helped an already exhausted couple and their tried family. Especially the helpful uncle with the truck. We had the option to have the chairs delivered, but picked them up to save money. I have to say that Macfarland's offer the most chair rental options in Halifax, and also the best quality. Most other rental stores had hard plastic lawn chairs with cheap covers. We had some very lovely gold and bamboo style chairs with white cushions. It really helped transform our home venue into a wedding. We did have to put down a deposit when we ordered our rentals (and industry standard) but were able to make changes up until the day before our wedding. Somehow I'd forgotten spoons but it wasn't a problem for them to add in sixty or so at the last minute. I'd have to recommend MacFarland's as it was easy, quick, and painless. When I went to pick them up the staff were very friendly and efficient, found my items quickly, and helped me load them in my car, all things that are very much appreciated when it is the day before your wedding you are running around the city like a chicken with its head cut off trying to get everything done. read more

I recently rented tablecloths from MacFarland's for my wedding reception! I relied on their expertise when I gave them table measurements for four round tablecloths and two long banquet tablecloths. We picked them up the day before our wedding and then tried them on the tables that evening. The round tablecloths were much too large, hanging all over the floor! One of the long tablecloths was more yellow in color but should have been white like all the other tablecloths. So we had to bring them back on the morning of our wedding to get the correct size and color. There was also a mix up when we returned the tablecloths on Monday, as they said we didn't return all the tablecloths we rented. When my husband returned the tablecloths, no one counted them, but they called later to say we didn't return them all. It was rather upsetting to have this happen. My advice is to make sure when your returning something from them that it's counted in front of you so there's no problems afterwards. My experience dealing with this company wasn't very good! read more
