The planning: We were planning our wedding from the U.S., which meant we couldn't have in person meetings with any of our vendors. I am a huge dance party fan, as is my now hubby, and we really (really!) wanted to have a rocking dance floor at our wedding. As most wedding planners, brides, grooms, etc know, the DJ is really essential to this end. Jeff was so great leading up to the event. We probably booked him about 9 months in advance after our other DJ cancelled on us. We had somewhat of a more complicated wedding ceremony to cocktail hour to dinner to reception layout and Jeff helped us with every part of it. He even rented us a small sound system to use at dinner for a very reasonable price and came to meet with my husband in person the day of the ceremony to make sure everything was going to go according to plan. The night of: We really cannot say enough good things. When we walked into the reception from dinner (the same place we had earlier had our ceremony), Jeff had transformed the space into a pink (my color request) paradise. We got married at halifax via railway in the alcove, which is a magnificent venue with very old architecture and ceilings for days. He placed up lights in all of the perfect locations to make the space look, simply, like a party. It was such a beautiful mix of old, majestic architecture and a fun, party vibe. He did not hesitate when on several occasions friends, myself or the groom, or family made song requests or there were minor changes to the schedule. His flexibility combined with his amazing skills are really unparalleled. He knew exactly how to read the crowd - for us that meant a phenomenal mix of mostly early to mid 90's jams - and kept everyone, including my grandma, on the dance floor for 4 hours straight. I have never seen so many people dancing, laughing, and having fun so consistently for so many hours. I could go on, but this is already the longest review I have ever written. Jeff, THANK YOU! Our reception was infinitely beyond our expectations and could not have been the same without your mad skillz!

If you're renting for a weekend event, they allow you to pick up on Friday and return on Monday so there isn't a rush, which is awesome for an otherwise stressful event like a wedding :)

The Halifax Club is a members only organization established in 1862. Apparently, when the land was…read moreoriginally purchased in the late 1800s it only cost $8000. It is a gorgeous old building in downtown Halifax, and in the last number of years the direction has been shifting; attempting to transition from its fairly stuffy roots, into something a little more accessible and perhaps more appealing to a younger crowd. Last night I attended a theatre performance at The Halifax Club. Zuppa, an amazing local theatre company, staged their play "Penny Dreadful" in the Uniacke room. The play is set in the 1800s so The Halifax Club as a venue, with its high ceilings and large paintings, was a very appropriate choice for the ensemble. The Pryor room bar was open before and after the show and our charming bartender Alex was helpful and generous. I enjoyed a glass of red wine for $7.5 while my date's beer was about $5.5. All of the people we encountered during our evening were very friendly and fun. If you happen to be invited by a member to dine or attend a function at The Halifax Club, you should accept the invitation. If you're hoping to become a member, check out the website. I'm sure it's not cheap, but you can feel both a sense of excitement and nostalgia knowing that you're walking the same halls that James C. Cogswell and William Cunard once did.

We had the place to ourselves and they were able to let the wedding party in early for photographs (damn rain...the only rainy Labour Day weekend in almost ten years, I swear). The food was great. I loved that I didn't have to worry about decorations - a few flowers, a bit of sheer fabric to match our colours on the table and boom! the place was ready to go.
