Amazing customer service! I recently needed to replace a fence that was in disrepair that ran from the side of my garage down part of my driveway. I looked up my parcel from the county assessor's website which showed my lot as a rectangle. However, the fence line behind my garage extends into my neighbors yard by a foot or two, my neighbor uses the side of my garage as his backyard property line and from the street view his property line actually went almost a foot into my garage. After a minor dispute with my neighbor over where the line truly was curiosity got the best of me and I turned to Yelp for reviews and request estimates on surveying my property. So Andrew is the real deal!! This is the only time I've said this on Yelp but I wish I could give him more than 5 stars! He has the educational background to run any necessary calculations but what really sets him apart from many others is his hands-on experience. I recently bought my first home and it's a fixer-upper. We wanted to take down 2 walls so he came out to our place and poked around in the attic and informed us which of the two walls was load bearing (the designer who we asked to come out before him told us wrong crucial info... this is why you hire a trustworthy engineer lol). During his first inspection Andrew was able to provide us with a ball-park quote as well as the reassurance that we could take the wall down ourselves with his help. Keep in mind that NONE of the other contractors/designers I spoke with would give us even a ballpark estimate for the job so this in of itself was invaluable information. Within 3 hours of leaving Andrew had a calculation/design package sent to my email that included the exact lumber/brackets I needed to order as well as where to get a good deal on them. On top of that he agreed to come back and help us actually do the construction! He told us he wouldn't expect us to pay him just to sit there and guide us through it all but that he would actually work with us. Well, that was an understatement because the dude is like The Energizer Bunny!! From the moment he pulled up to my house he was working incredibly hard even though we were paying him hourly and we had the reinforcement up, wall down, and everything cleaned up in about 3.5 hours! If it was not for Andrew we would have had to put off taking the wall down for a couple years because we would not have been able to afford it if we had to hire contractors. We are so fortunate to have found him because taking this wall down COMPLETELY changes the feel of our home and is exactly what we were planning to do when we bought it. About 3 years ago I purchased a home that had severe structural foundation problems that were not disclosed. After living in the home for a year I started to notice cracks opening in the walls all over the home, doors not closing, and sloping floors. I knew then I had been sold a lemon. I knew the first step was to get a professional engineer out to do an evaluation. Andrew came out and was professional, honest, and quickly noticed all the problems I saw. My ex-friend, that was also my agent was there, and Andrew pointed out to him that my house should have not closed escrow and the signs of severe structural problems were clearly there at the time I bought the home. Andrews report was critical evidence for me after I contacted an attorney. I eventually was able to get a settlement for some of the repairs to the foundation, but without Andrews evaluation I would have not been able to argue my home had foundation problems before I bought the home, and there were signs of patch work. This is my experience with this company. Per my contractor, Andrew was non responsive to the Citys request for additional changes in calculations in June, July, and all of August due to stress from a big job he was working on already, in addition to a prepaid 3 week vacation. My project was delayed approximately from June 27 until a response Sept. 4 finally. I have only my contractors word to go on. My contractor told me "do not contact him." So I am not sure if it was actually Andrew. But because of this, I would not recommend Element Engineering. read more

I would never use an structural engineer I don't TRUST.... unfortunately, Andrew is not trustworthy and completely lied to us. I contacted Andrew and he was very quick to respond, provide a quote, and make an appointment to come out the next day. He spent a good amount of time going over our project in detail and discussed the specifics of the project and we agreed upon 1) process 2) scope 3) price 4) timeframe. I took detailed notes and before he left we, again, went over everything we had discussed making sure we were on the same page. My wife and I even took very detailed took notes. Before he left, my wife and I told him that we had to confirm our design (which bifold doors we would be putting in) so there wouldn't be any changes. He agreed and said to just let him know when we were ready and there would be a "2 week countdown" for him to finish. Well, we contacted him a couple weeks later and everything he said COMPLETELY changed to the point where I actually asked him if he was confused as to which property we were talking about. He literally decided he would change the process, pre-requisites, scope as well as completely make up what he told us. Basically, he was trying to come up with excuses to not do the job for what he quoted. Eventually, in our email exchange, he eventually fessed up to basically lying. However, I don't know why anyone would trust calculations and risk the safety of their family to someone that isn't trustworthy in how they conduct business. **UPDATE** You absolutely LIED, it was not a "miscommunication." I even have the email chain in which you admit to it. You first said your quote didn't include the main part of the engineering even though my initial request included it and that is what we discussed 90% of the time while you were at my house. Then you completely changed the requisites for the project (basically, so you didn't have to do as much work). You eventually admitted it was because you got busy and didn't have time for the project but that does not mean you did not LIE repeatedly before admitting to it. read more

We were in the process of selling our home, which has a detached shop with an apartment above when a crack in our shop floor drew attention of potential buyers. They brought an inspector in who brought an "engineer" in who proceeded to tell everyone that the crack was a serious problem with the foundation. Soil samples were needed, footings would need to be replaced, the shop was likely not permitted based on what he observed and we would be looking at an estimated $30 to $50k in repairs. Stress? No not at all. Buyers love hearing that kind of thing when they think they found their dream home and sellers are always looking to sink $50k in to a house they are selling. I enjoyed working with Andrew. We hired Andrew to figure out a way to move an unsightly beam in the middle of the walk way into our family room of our Tahoe home. Everyone else we spoke to told us it would cost over $30,000 if it could be done and removing it would be a major problem. As I investigated the possibility of removing it I found Andrew on Yelp. Just from looking at pictures I texted him he could tell that it could be removed and he gave me an accurate cost. He visited the sight to follow up on the pictures I sent him. Wow, this man Andrew knows his stuff. He's as good as it gets if you want to hire someone to inspect your potential new home to have peace of mind when you sign on the dotted line. Andrew arrived early to my home and did a thorough inspection of the structure. He found a few structural issues in the attic which the seller promptly fixed. This is the lowdown, why hire an general inspector to tell you what you can observe and evaluate yourself? Hire Andrew, bona fide engineer who will inspect things a general inspector can't possibly evaluate bc they don't have the background. The cherry on top of the sundae is that he is also very nice and works hard to make sure the home is fit structurally. I would hire this man again or refer him to my friends and family in a heartbeat. He is worth every dollar he charges. Funny thing is he charges the same or even better than a general inspector. Some things he noticed and reported that a general inspector would not even know: 1. cracks in travertine floor, but whats important is that it was from normal shifting not a structural problem. 2. sellers planted tree to close to home so in future the rots may grow under house floor and damage travertine flooring. 3. AC HVAC system in attic clogged 4. Tree in front has roots that are infringing upon home. The sellers read report and fixed every single thing for us.
