I recently contacted Element Engineering to obtain an Elevation Certificate of my property, to be submitted to FEMA. The following day, I received an email from Andrew Hammond, asking details of my property. I provided him with the needed information, and he set up an appointment for a Sunday, at 8:00 AM to survey the area, take pictures, etc. He arrived precisely at 8:00 AM, did the surveying and a couple of days later I received the documentation. Andrew is very knowledgeable about building codes, and structural integrity of home construction in the Fab 40s area of Sacramento. Needing our patio cover engineered we had one hold our plans for 5 weeks before looking at them then asked for $300 more and wanted a wall in the middle of our view of our backyard, we took them to another one who at least said upfront it would take 5-6 weeks to look at them. Andrew with Element Engineering has helped me with two projects to date. A second floor deck that needed to be rebuilt and expanded and a retaining wall on the back of my property. On both occasions, Andrew was professional, friendly, and punctual. I could not recommend anyone more highly than Andrew for any engineering needs! I will expand: On the deck project, I had a design in mind. Andrew went over my project in detail with me. He suggested improvements and modifications that not only made the design more stable but saved construction time as well. As the project went forward, I came upon an unexpected hangup concerning how to attach a ledger board to the house... Three text messages and a few pictures of the problem and Andrew had a viable, cost effective solution worked out. If not for his quick thinking and flexibility, the project would have quickly skyrocketed in cost AND labor. On the retaining wall, Andrew again came through with aplomb. Again taking the time to go over every facet of the project that I was concerned with, refining my original plan to ensure the wall was structurally stable (the retaining wall holds back a hill on the backside of my property and, should it fail, would end in disaster)! And the icing on the cake for me was that Andrew showed a genuine interest in the projects, asking to keep him updated with pictures and progress reports! I called Andrew after feeling dismissed from a plumbing company who re-plumed my home. One week after the re-plumbing a marble shower wall cracked. Long story short, Andrew came to my home inspected the wall and witnessed the crack opening up after the shower was on and saw how the wall expanded after the hot water was on for a few minutes. He also looked at the second bathroom too. After explaining to me his conclusion, he wrote a letter to the plumbing company and they responded immediately after receiving his letter. They now have taken responsibility for the cracked marble and are paying for new marble and installation. Andrew sets a perfect example of how all companies should run their business. We were considering the purchase an investment property that had obvious damage to the slab foundation. Not knowing anything about foundation repair I turned to Yelp to search for a structural engineer. When I came across Element Engineering, I was so impressed with the amazing reviews that I decided to give them a call. My call was returned by Andrew within 20 minutes. He was more than willing to answer all of my questions and even give us some quick estimates based on my description of the problems at the home. This alone was appreciated because there was no pressure to schedule an appointment just to collect money. Still considering whether or not to move forward with an offer on the property, we decided to schedule and appointment to have Element do a complete inspection. Andrew was able to accommodate our needs and scheduled an appointment for the following day. Once he arrived at the property he quickly realized the structural damage and problem with slab was much worse than he (or we) had expected.
