I wasn't particularly convinced that this was going to be a good experience based on how difficult the appoint-making process was; it's true. I arrived, harried after rushing in the cold and rain over from Putney Bridge station, and was met by someone at the counter who didn't speak particularly good English. Surely this was the same woman with whom I spoke on the phone, a receptionist, yeah? She said something that sounded like 'Can I take your coat?' ...Sure? And something like 'Have a seat here.' ...Okay? And then something like 'I'll be right back.' Wait, what? Uh oh. Yes, this woman was indeed my hair stylist. The fact that I could barely understand what she was saying to me didn't instil a lot of confidence; I'll be honest. Luckily, I didn't want a hair style that was radically different to the one I already had. I tried to convey as much as possible that I was not one to chat with my hair stylists, much less when I can't understand what they're saying to me, which is only compounded by the fact that active blow dryers are making it nearly impossible to hear anything. It would have been difficult to understand a conversation in that place even if the Queen herself were snipping away at my locks and chattering in my ear. The hair washing experience was more thorough than it was relaxing. The hair cutting experience was pretty par for the course. The hair drying experience took a perplexingly long time. But my hair looked good at the end of it. So I can't really complain. £42.

City Nails looks like your standard nail salon, it's clean, there's a mind boggling array of polish shades, and a to in the corner playing terrible pop. I got a full set of acrylics and a pedicure done and am super pleased with the result. My pedicure was quick but thorough and my tips are the perfect length as well as being beautifully thin. They were fast and didn't over file my nails down before the tips, so I have nothing bad to say! If you're local for a good no frills nail place, this is totally it.

They have every color you could ever hope to choose from, and they don't cut corners with cheaper duplicates. Every single thing I have seen them use is brand name and specific. To me, that says that they value the performance of a brand and then pass it on to their clients. They have the spa pedicure chairs and they clean them after each client. Basically in short, my nail on my foot was cut all the way up to the root of my nail which when started to peel away from the skin. I did not realise this until he finished. If the owner is reading this and has photos of the staff from back in 2011 I will happily come over and point out this member of staff, who i'm sure is still working there now. I happened to stumble upon this place on the way to a friends house last weekend and it was a very…read morepleasant surprise. My gel in-fills needed doing (technically what that means is that I wear a gel wrap on my real nail so that it won't break) and I had half an hour to burn. The gel wrap was filed down really well, so that my nails didn't look fake and thick (the kind of effect that you normally get with acrylic wraps or nail extensions) and when I asked them to clip my nails to the length that I wanted to be, they didn't protest and say 'oh no! That's too short!'. Vy Nails also handle manicures, pedicures, semi permanent make-up and body waxing. My in-fills cost £18:00, which is a bit more than I expected to pay (but a lot less than Nails Inc..) and having said that I was very pleased with the service and the end result.
