This is a very small salon in a chi-chi part of London. At weekends and evenings, the place is full…read moreof regulars (many of them very rich locals, and some of them also famous). The atmosphere can be a little intimidating for the unwary or irregular customer, or those who dare to forego their diamonds during the day, but this is the fault of the other customers, not the therapists, who are very friendly but often run off their feet.
If you're in search of eyebrow threading, Pari and Nasrin are the very best, bar none. My eyebrows are VERY straggly if left to their own devices, and I am seriously fussy about a neat but very natural shape. They always get it right. I've been going once a month since the day they opened, except for the very few times I've strayed in favour of cheaper or more conveniently located threading, and I have always regretted it. 5 stars, easy, even though it's spendy at £20.
I've also had waxing at Minx, with Pari. She is thorough and deft, but I prefer the girls at Otylia Roberts because they use hot wax which is less painful, though slower, and also slightly cheaper. 3 stars.
For a while, I had regular manicures and pedicures at Minx, but much depends on the skill of the individual therapist, and if you're not rich or famous, Nasrin is now unlikely to be free to do your nails. I now go to Wendy at Kensington Nails in Kensington Church Street. Both use Essie, and Wendy is a third of the price. So 3 stars for the Minx mani-pedi.
Beauty services (facials and make up application) are a let-down. They use Dermalogica skincare products, but the therapists aren't a patch on the girls at the Dermalogica salon just up the road at Vantage Place (behind Mac on Ken Church Street). The make-up selection is a haphazard mix of not very flattering colours and brands you've never heard of, and when I had mine "professionally" applied, it looked a million times worse than the most heavy handed trainee from Mac could manage. It cost £60 too. One star, and only because Dermalogica products are good.
So, overall, this is a mixed review. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Minx for threading, and I have a lot of faith in Nasrin and Pari, but not in the other therapists, for mani-pedi treatments. Facials and beauty are not recommended I'm afraid.
