I find it interesting that the individuals that post negative reviews on yelp tend to not have a profile picture or it is something that you can't identify them with. I'm a foreman for a Bay Area electrical contractor and I have found that the guys that work at the counter, really understand electrical needs and which materials will work best. I can't remember ever having an issue with materials not being ordered correctly. I think it also helps that they have positive attitudes. I've been going to ED for years. I'm just a maintenance tech and people are shocked when they find out I'm an electrician too. When I need parts that I can't get at Home Depot, this is the place that has them. My only complaint is that they are not a nursery school that can hold my hand and tutor me and answer all of my stupid questions. Nor are they able to provide on-demand support and pricing information for me when I am bidding jobs. However! I needed a 4-gang weatherproof wall plate covers right away in order to pass the final inspection. This is a very hard to find item. After looking all over the place I called Electrical Distributors. Brian loved the challenge and he looked and found them and he also coordinated the same day pick up at the warehouse of the distributor. He even sent me a follow up email to make sure I got the invoice so I could pick the items without a hitch. That is what I call customer service. Thanks Brian!! This company has been in business since 1948 for good reason!! The Customer Service the staff provides is second to none!! Everyone at the counter in extremely friendly and KNOWLEDGEABLE!!!!!!! This is NOT Home Depot. They're prices are competitive, but NOT CHEAP!!!!!! This is an establishment that caters to people in the electrical TRADES!!!!! Meaning that they have high quality, name brand merchandise. With that said, you kinda have to have SOME KIND of idea what you are looking for!! They carry all of the switches, ballasts, conduit, tape, lights, wire, tools, relays, channel systems, boxes, cable. transformers (no, not the 'bots'), relays, etc., etc. Oh yeah, and LIGHTS!!! As a local electrical contractor I rely on correct and timely information regarding bids for future projects. We recently requested a quote on some panels from the Gilroy store who told us the quote HAD to come from San Jose. Our bid was due at 3:00 3 days later. It took Nikki until 2:22 on the day the bid was due to finally get the information to us. It was wrong, she quoted the lighting package with the panels and no line item pricing was provided. When I called to ask for just the panel pricing I was basically told too bad we can't give you that until after the job is awarded. WHAT? How are we supposed to get a job awarded to us with incorrect pricing? She refused any further help. Too bad for you was her attitude. This is not the first time that we have these types of situations, they routinely take right up until the last minute to provide us with quotes so that we then have to rush a bid out the door to make it on time. The only reason they are doing as well as they are is from lack of competition, not because of customer service. read more

This review is not against the company as a whole. This is in regard to the counter service I received from, Andrew. I actually took the old parts with me that had all the numbers needed to make this an easy as possible transaction. First off, even though I had the old parts with me, he gave me the wrong stuff, until I looked at it and told him they were incorrect, they were ballasts that needed to be able to withstand heat. (HAZ) on label. Also, I had two different size florescent tubes (had them with me as well) and after all these things were written up, I looked at the bill and it needed correction. He scribbled on the receipt and handed it back to me with no revised total. Even though some of the blame is mine due to a quantity change mid stream, but I'm not sure that was a huge deal. I got back to my work, looked at the bulbs, assuming they were correct, (my bad), but all 24 bulbs were the same size even though the receipt was correct, I .needed 12 of one size 12 of another. He was not apologetic in the least, he actually said as he walked away that I was basically at fault for this situation and basically said I ordered wrong. Making him give me a revised copy was an inconvenience to him at the time. Note: I am not an electrical contractor, and some people need more help from the SALES people than others.To me all customers count, and should be treated with respect. read more

If you're a regular person, not a contractor, and want to get treated like an idiot, here's your place. I couldn't find the under- counter long bulb I needed at Target or OSH. But the nice guy at OSH said try these guys. Before I could finish explaining what I wanted, the man behind the counter immediately started asking me questions about numbers and letters on the bulb. I don't have that in my head, I explained and apologized for my ignorance. I said I'd know the bulb I saw it. He refused, said it would be "the wrong one" and kept interrupting me.
