We sat and watched others who sat after us receive their menus, water, bread and what looked like pleasant service. We almost walked out twice since it took so long to provide us with menus and then a very long time to get our food (served 25 minutes after ordering a simple pizza). As we waited we watched others who arrived after us receive their food. Waitresses struggled not to make eye contact with us as we looked for help. There were two other tables with people of color and they seemed to receive the same treatment. What a way to ruin a travel experience. Clearly African Americans are not welcomed in Lucerne.

The food is good and service was relatively quick mid-day Friday. The restaurant itself was cute and spacious. Docking a few stars down since after already paying a hefty bill (~$200 USD for 4 items), we were asked to tip with the waiter holding the keypad in front of us. This is the first time we were asked to add gratuity in Europe and it was a bit uncomfortable on the spot. Food was tasty but that interaction left a sour taste.

I had a mushroom pizza that was very tasty. I was craving a panna cotta. I asked if they had one, as it was not on the menu. The waiter said he would check with the kitchen. Then he came back and told me they had one small portion left from lunch. I said "yes!". He brought it to me and said it was on the house. It might not have been the greatest panna cotta, but it was good, and that was a great finishing touch of the day. The price is reasonable for the tourist area (and Switzerland). The negative part: the first waitress who took my order seemed to be not caring much. Maybe she was tired at the end of a busy Sunday? It took some time until she took the order even though the restaurant was getting empty. She was busy cleaning the tables. So, I would expect that during a busy time the wait could be long.

The kitchen showed a great deal of technical skill that evening. The food was very, very tasty and we ate several dishes which were simply unforgettable. Stephane Wirth, who is in charge of the cuisine together with his wife Nadja Schuler, created a perfect terrine of foie gras for us. It was served en bloc and was one of the three best-tasting terrines I've ever eaten. You'll be getting decent portions for a gourmet restaurant, especially à la carte, like our Angus beef filet main courses that were big, dense dishes packed with flavour. They employ pastry Christian Mott. His desserts made all of us very happy. His technically flawless creme brulée compositions and basil granité served with lime espuma were the two biggest highlights of his desserts. He also managed to meet the biggest challenge of the evening, namely creating a giant dessert variation for CHF 30.- without being warned in advance. Great ice cream and sorbets and a nice selection of friandises. The restaurant has become quite popular, not just because of the excellent food. The location is unique and no other restaurant in Lucerne is as beautifully situated. They offer a romantic little love garden with roses, a beautiful view and a rose-themed dining room in case the weather plays up. Highly recommended!

The setting is a beautiful outdoor garden with leafy trees and lush bushes, accented by wild strawberry plants placed on each table. Quiet and romantic with occasional church bells in the background. Service was excellent and the chef, trained at the Zurich Savoy, clearly knows what he is doing. And, all at very reasonable prices. We will be back!

Yelp Review 2026 #92:…read more Even on a rainy day, nothing can mask the pungent odor of ripe cheese. Your nose will find this place faster than Google Maps. You won't read those lines on a romance novel! I came here for a purpose and it's to get my hands on their hot cheese pie. I saw them outside the cheese shop go from pale to golden brown as they cooked. I was hypnotized, mesmerized and also because the strong odor of different cheeses was suffocating. "Mmmmmm...I love that smell" said one old lady. Really? She likes funk. I like eating cheese, not smelling cheese. This is why they don't make cheese-scented candles and perfumes - if cheese smelled good they would've done it a long time ago. Since nobody was manning the cheese pie outside after I stood there as they cooked, I had to go inside and check out the cheeses. They have a wide variety of them. They also sold pasta, breadsticks, alcohol for fondue and for drinking, chocolate, popcorn, hummus, dairy products and drinks. They have lots of different kinds of Swiss cheeses which I didn't know they had, and maybe 2 French cheeses: Brillat-Savarin and Camembert. I was so overwhelmed by all the cheese varieties and the smell of the cheese that I left with no cheese but with a hot cheese pie. It was hot and salty and delicious! People passing by kept looking at me as I eat the cheese pie - either they think the smell was coming from me or they're curious about what I'm eating. But all my shenanigans aside, this cheese shop was fantastic.
