After a week of pub grub and clichéd British food, it was time for some curry. Yelp to the rescue!…read more We found Akbars just a few blocks from the train station, so it made a good stop after the National Railway Museum. I thought the dishes were fine quality, tasty and not too spicy. Good prices and good portions, suitable for sharing. Loved the atmosphere, with low lighting from chandeliers with red highlights and lounge music. It seemed more modern and hip than a standard Indian joint. The crowd was a mix of small groups of businessmen and tourists, with a few families like us.

Thanks, Adam! Wandering the streets after sightseeing, I let Yelp lead me to a top rated…read morerestaurant. I was not even slightly disappointed because Akbar's is an excellent curry house. Even though I walked in at 5:15, they were happy to see me and brought me to a table near the window. The menu was a bit strange - a solidly laminated sheet - but it had all the usual curries that I've come to expect in this country. And so instead of going with the usual, I let my eye choose. I started with the Liver Tikka. I've never had this before and I would recommend it. Not at all "livery", three good sized pieces arrived on a sizzling plate with some sauteed onions and a bowl of mint sauce. Th mint was a big help because this was seriously hot. Not spicy hot, temperature hot. Wow! For mains, the "handi" was listed as 'just like we have it at home' on the menu so I thought I'd give that a try. I chose lamb instead of chicken. It took about ten minutes (the waiter warned me it would be 15) and I also opted for two chapati to go with it. Again, very hot coming from the kitchen and it had a whole lot of flavor and spice, but it wasn't "hot" spicy just really tasty. Lots of small pieces of lamb in a sauce that is beyond description. Let's just say that it was excellent and the chapati was perfect for scooping. No dessert, but the cold bottle of Kingfisher was perfect (first time in a bottle, it's usually draft). A great meal!

It really doesn't get much better than this! For the Indian…read morefood connoisseur, this place is a must visit. Beautiful decor and friendly staff are just for starters, the place is spotlessly clean and strangely enough you don't get the aroma of curry when you walk in, which was fine, just surprising! We started with beautiful crisp poppodums and pickle tray which didn't last long. For mains i went with an unusual choice for me, Butter Chicken. I was informed this dish has very little to no spice but i was good with that so ordered it with chapatis and regular rice. #2 went with chicken Balti #3 went with chicken masala desi Also ordered plain naan and garlic naan for good measure. The real winner was, everyone! All the food was amazing, the butter chicken was so smooth and creamy with coconut and milk, if you can't handle spice or you are taking someone who prefers a plain dish this is a great intro to curry. The Balti was sublime, tender pieces of chicken in the gorgeous Balti stir fry, the masala desi was outstanding also with the right amount of peppers to make it tickle your throat! Naan's were incredible, the table next to us got the family naan, huge!!! Reasonable prices, great service and some of the best curry i've ever had, i'll be back in August! PS - We were there Sunday evening and they had a magician doing table side magic if you wanted, i highly recommend it, the guys was...well, magic!

A great place for decent quality authentic Indian food with a good amount of variety. The price is…read morerelatively high, but acceptable for what you are getting. If you are expecting the usual "corner curry house" cheap standard then expect to be disappointed.
