The bagels are decent. Elaine's has been around for a long time. This particular location is in desperate need of some love and care, and maybe an extra staff member or 2. I wouldn't say it's not worth trying, but I do wish they would revamp it. - bagels, cream cheese, bagel sandwiches - coffee, croissants, muffins, tea read more

Elaine's Bagels - Bagels Near Me - Berkley, Michigan

See all

Elaine's bagels are the best bagels in the whole United States! We used to live in Berkeley on Oxford Street. We moved to Arizona 13 years ago and there is nothing in Arizona that can compare to Elaine's bagels! I would give anything to have them delivered to our home here in Goodyear Arizona! read more

I knew Elaine's from the Troy location back in the day. I was hesitant to try this location due to the reviews - and assuming different owners since so long ago. But I'm baffled. These bagels were AMAZING!! I mean, just what I wanted!! Got there around 6:45am. Bagels were still warm!! Fresh. Great tasting. Parked right in front. In and out. I can't say enough about them!!!!! I'll for sure be back!!!! read more

The bagels are absolutely delicious! I had a salt bagel with cream cheese cheese. The staff member who helped me was nice.

I don't understand a lot of these reviews. This place has been our go to bagel place for over a year now. The bagels are always fresh and soft, and the workers are friendly. Only once was the service slower than expected. read more

I was given a bagel that was moldy and not given a refund also very dry bagels very disappointed

bagels need to be boiled in lye before baking. What you serve is just bread. nicely risen but still just bread.

I read bad reviews but gave them the benefit of a doubt and decided to go. I purchase a dozen bagels and a small cream cheese. 2 - salt 4 - plain 2 - everything (most places put them in separate bag) 4 - Asiago I did not pay attention to what I was charged until I saw the notification from my credit card when I got home. $28.06. I felt that was a very excessive amount. I called and was told that they have posted that Asiago bagels are $1.25 extra. I opened my first restaurant 33 years ago. I know the struggles of small business owners. I will not be going back. read more

have great bagels gave me a free coffee. also very good service have a ton of variety

This place was great 20 years ago. They keep getting a little worse. I got some poppyseed and sesame bages and they just did not taste right. It seemed like the dough was salty or had someing wrong with it. The bagels seemed to rise a bit more than usual and there was not wuite enough browning to provide the right level of chew in the crust and that deep flavor. There was not a lot of sesmae or poppy seeds either. read more

20 years ago this place was amazing with about 20 varieties of bagels and a full menu including sandwiches. Now it's on its 10th or 12th owner and sells about 4 varieties of low quality bagels that are poorly formed and have no hole in the middle. Also, the place is filthy. Bring back the original owners! read more

Man, this place sucks. The only bagel shop where you better count your bagels before you leave. 2nd time bought 1/2 dozen and they gave me 4. Hardly any bagels left at 9:45 on a Sunday. Bugs everywhere, poor service, room temp coffee, and kinda pricey. Truly sad. read more

This place has gone downhill recently. Today all 3 bagels I ordered were raw when I cut them open. Definitely won't be back.

Not the same --- they must be new owners ...I will never go back there for bagels - bagels were hard and small

Elaine's Bagels are warm soft and delicious. When you first walk in you are instantly put at ease with the warm decor. You feel like you've made it to the right place. The service is excellent and Elaine is a hard worker! Highly recommend you order your next dozen from her. read more

The place as a whole belongs in the dumpster. Bacon on the bagel sandwich was raw. Iced coffee had unknown black flakes inside bottom of cup and the cream in coffee was sour. Staff makes you feel like your a burden for spending money in their toilet bowl of an establishment. Go anywhere else on the planet. Eating dirt would be safer. read more

I gave Elaine's a second chance, not sure why probably bc location, but it has not improved at all. My bagel was doughy in the middle.. I even think the prices went up. I wish they'd do better read more

Just not that good. Feels dark and dirty. Service uneven to disdainful. Bagels eh. Kinda sad

If a bagel shop that featured not only a decent bagel but pleasant customer service with even the occasional smile from the owner and staff were to open up in Berkley, this place would be out of business in a month. read more

I never go to Elaine's bagel after passing by the window and seeing all the bugs along the windowsill. My husband who used to love Elaine's circa 1999, thought he'd try it today. Thank you lady working at Elaine's for supporting my long time decision of traveling farther than Berkley for better service and quality. 1. Only half the bagel options were in stock. 2. The lady stayed on a personal phone call while my husband and son looked at her waiting for service. 3. The lady huffed and puffed as my husband told her the order. 4. Then took his money, tossed the change on the counter, picked up the phone which she never hung up, and proceeded to talk about my husband on the phone. I will tell everyone about this experience. With Panera coming soon, I'll be able to get bagels, good service, and only go a bit further. Competition is fierce out there. Small businesses can't afford to lose customers because their staff is unprofessional and offensive. read more

Had not been to Berkley location for several min ha; the service was poor, it seems I was interrupting her phone session. The bagels were poorly made, very poor quality compared to New York bagel and others. It is clear there is no pride and the employees could care less! Don't waste your time or money. read more

Very limited menu. If you simply want bagels, good. The latte was limited to whole and skim milk no non dairy options, but the salmon sandwiches were decent at best. read more

I almost never give negative review.. the bagel was good but the staff was pretty rude. My friend who got there a little before me also said the same. Not so pleasant in the morning ? Woulda maybe given the benefit of the doubt and say they were having a bad day, but I see I'm other reviews they are always rude read more

Elaine's has been the "go to" place to buy bagels in the Berkley area for as long as it's doors have been open. The bagels are DELICIOUS.....a great mix of perfectly baked outside and soft chewy inside. The variety is amazing and none of the flavors disappoint. As for Jess who gave a one star review: You failed to state that you work and/or own the business directly across the street but instead of parking in front of your own business, you hog the spot in front of Elaine's blocking HER business for customers who have difficulty walking. What a mature way to "complain", writing a nasty review of this wonderful establishment. One can only hope Karma is real for you, Jess. Elaine was truly upset with your negative review as she asked you NICELY after your repeated ALL DAY parking (9-5) in front of her bagel shop. Some people are just nasty and hateful. But Elaine is a NICE person with great product. Please overlook Jess' review and come see for yourself. My family has been fans from the start!!! Thanks Elaine! read more

Bagels are amazing! Perfectly seasoned and fresh! I've been looking for just a decent salt bagel for years and I finally went to Elaine's and was so excited to see they not only had regular salt bagels but also the salt bagel sticks and they were better than decent! I may be behind on finding this place but I'll definitely be back! read more

The bagels themselves are probably good, but the egg sandwich was flavorless and wet. They also did not have enough iced coffee for two people at 9am. read more

Bagels are always SO good and the highlight to my mornings. Friendly staff, clean environment, and affordable! Been going here for years and is a staple to the Berkley community. read more

Our PTO has decided to provide bagels to the children and parents prior to school once a week. After speaking with Elaine's Bagels - who currently provide the bagels for another local school - we had made arrangements to have the bagels delivered, pre-cut prior to 6am. This Wednesday, with numerous children and parents waiting for bagels for the kid's breakfast Elaine's bagels did not show up until 7:45am. The person we were speaking with lied about the fact that a driver was on their way. We were told the driver was "stuck in traffic" around 7am and that they would be there in approximately "15 minutes" and yet did not show up for another 45 minutes!!! In addition to this the bagels they delivered were not pre-cut and Elaine's was unwilling to even apologize for their terrible service. The bagels tasted fine but I would definitely NOT recommend anyone who cares about customer service to use them - especially if you need the bagels for an important meeting or gathering. read more

Elaine is nothing fancy, but it near the house. Unfortunately it changed a great deal over the years. Gone are the great special bagels they used to have on a weekly basis (sun dried tomato was great) and the staff isn't nearly as friendly and don't seem to care much. That all said, their coffee is decent, their breakfast sandwiches are pretty good and the must treat the Berkley school district pretty well because they get a weekly order. Elaine isn't somewhere I would drive to, but if I'm driving by, it's ok. read more

We have been coming here since my daughter was born! The owner is the sweetest human around! She loves my family and always makes us feel like her family while we are there! Every time I come in I am greeted with a smile and she asks how everyone is doing! I love this place! Oh, and the bagels are amazing! The best we've ever had! We recently moved out of Berkley and we're still coming back because nowhere compares! The allstars are our favorite! read more

I have to say I really disagree with the negative reviews!! I just moved to the area recently and I have been consistently surprised with the incredibly warm hospitality that I receive every time I walk through the doors here. The bagels are delicious. The coffee excellent. I am a happy guy. Check for yourself. This place is a hidden gem! read more

Zero stars. Would not recommend. Not only are the bagels terrible but the food is AWFUL. The owner also verbally accosted me for parking in a public parking spot in front of her storefront. Absolutely insane way to treat local residents. read more

My husband went in to purchase bagels and when he went to check out he places cream cheese in the counter. The rude girl said what cream cheese so you have in you hoodie pocket? He said no cheese cheese and pulled out kleenex and his keys. She said nothing and handed him his bagels! She accused him of stealing cream cheese! This lady is always rude and now this we will never be back! NEVER! I didn't even want o give a star! read more

So this was my first visit here and I arrived nice and early at 7am looking for some fresh bagels. I prefer smaller mom & pop shops over the larger chains as the quality is usually better and you support local businesses. The good: It looks like they make their own cream cheese spreads. I got Onion, Plain and Honey. All were delicious. Price point for a dozen bagels is under $9 so that is outstanding. The not-so-good: The bagels. Yup, the main product. I bought 2 dozen for the office and I had a raisin bagel. Myself and other coworkers found the bagels to be dense and chewy. My jaw actually hurt after eating one. I expected them to be lighter I guess. read more

Really good bagels and breakfast sandwiches and lots of different coffee. Could only go 4 stars because the atmosphere is not great.

It is really not great... I ordered a latte and she filled the cup with brewed coffee, steamed the milk and added the milk to the brewed coffee. Bagel was toasted but still cold. Second time going there and still not happy with it. Great location! Would be nice if it was a better coffee shop. read more

Give three stars only because I enjoy the bagels, but the staff is very rude! When I come in I don't feel welcomed and I'm never greeted. When paying for my bagels, my card declined due to a error with their cash register. The woman told me "my card declined and that I don't have any money on my card" I felt that was super rude! when I told her to try my card again, the cash register processed my transaction and the employee walked away not even apologizing for the statement she made. I was having a good morning until this happened! Good bagels, but need better employees! read more

the best customer service and bagels in town. I really like how Katie treats customers ,a really nice lady!

So I used to love this place when I was a kid. However, now that i'm an adult paying for the bagels myself i now realize this place is pretty over priced! The bagels are good and most of the time so are the loxs. The staff is not overly friendly it seems like they are unhappy. either way this is not a negative review but also not very positive. 3 stars read more

This place used to be great, but not anymore! After stopping in this Sunday I was shocked at how far downhill Elaine's has gone. The workers were flat out rude, the orders were wrong, and whatever they're trying to pass off as "veggie" cream cheese is inedible. Save yourself some frustration and go to New York Bagel instead. read more
