I have been tanning for decades now and can honestly say that Cabana Tanning & Beauty Bar is by far…read morethe best in the city. There really is no downside to coming to this salon. As the tanning industry has gradually shifted over time to include health and beauty, Cabana is at the top of the game. There are no gimmicks here: no machines that make promises and do nothing, and zero pressure to up sell packages, promos or lotions. The vibe of the salon is very inclusive. Owned by a husband and wife duo who look like they just stepped out of a fitness magazine, the focus here is on knowledge. It is aromatic like a massage spa for relaxation. Here you will find beds that promise to output exactly the shade you are seeking. There are beds of every level, which outperform beds on tier lists at other salons. Some clients, like me, like to be super dark, others, with a hint of a tan, others to even out an uneven skin tone, and some looking for the pre-vacation glow/base tan. Everyone who works here are not only experts on which bed will suit you best, but also how frequent you should tan to achieve desired results. They know their lotions inside out to help get you there, but do not push them for extra cash. The reason is two-fold, I think - have you ever been to a salon several times within a short time frame where you got great color, only for it to fade days later, unevenly? This is because your bronzer in your lotion "dyed" your skin, but the bulbs were weak and did not provide a base tan. Those other salons will push lotions on you because the bulbs aren't being replaced on a timely basis, or, one or two bulbs will be changed, leaving the older bulbs in during a "full bulb change" (an inside owner "trick"). While it is best to use a lotion, you can either ask or be told once when you first become a client of its benefits. Staff will read out ingredients whenever you are even curious about a lotion so you know what you are putting on your skin. But there is never any pressure to purchase. The affinity bed is one of my favorites by far. Produces instant color and the facial unit has two levels that can be adjusted. This bed is a combo uva and uvb and is perfect for priming for your next visit, should you choose to use the "browning" bed (the amazing Matrix) which produces amazing color and deepens your melanin gained over your past tanning sessions. The stand up is comparable to both Affinity and Matrix in terms of color output. The level one bed - the silver bullet - is not to be underestimated. Both the silver bullet and the standup have frosted acrylics. A lot of people assume there will be less penetration of light-to-skin, which is negligibly true, however the bonus of these type of acrylics is a more evenly diffused tan. If you have trouble with getting color on your legs (a common complaint at other salons), these are the beds that can assist. Even though I am very dark - possibly one of the darkest clients, I have used both, and actually prefer the silver bullet to the standup. Because Cabana takes such care of their units and change bulbs frequently, I still got amazing color. The very negligible loss of penetration is rendered void because of this. The amount of clients who have thanked me for trusting this bed, as dark as I am, and gotten positive results are innumerable. Can't stand the heat? Hop into the mid-level Prestige. It has top notch fans and its own built-in AC. There are licensed hair removal (laser) procedures here, licensed lymphatic drainage by a qualified technician whom I have heard clients rave about, especially females post surgical procedures. There are a bevvy of health and beauty treatments here. There seminars on fitness, diet, mental well being held here from time to time by professionals, and a doctor who has her own office for botox and other procedures related to beauty. I did a consult with her, and instead of spending excess money - something she pointed out - she showed me a mirror, explained the musculature of my face and showed me how the most minimally invasive procedure, when I am ready, will remedy my concerns. A lot of the most beautiful clients I see walking out of her office look like they haven't had any work done, and are simply stunning. There is also a dedicated eyebrow technician on site whom everybody loves, and as to the tanning beds and spray tan, although Cabana can be high traffic, there will always be an alternate bed that will suit your needs. Cleaning is thorough, spotless and there is much to read. I have never seen a salon with so many successful businesses advertising - from hair, to dental, you name it, I cant even keep track of them all. This is another indication that other businesses are impressed by this location and all that it offers - so much so they trust being advertised in house. There is ample parking and bus stops in both directions in front, and no hiking up stairs.

Hoda started with the paper work or admin. stuff and walked me through how we would proceed and she also took the time to explain her machines. Her newest machine is impeccable. We started my first session at a higher setting and my skin was fine, where we didn't see any inflammation or red skin. When it was time to pay, we used our insurance (Manulife) but the receptionist was saying it didn't go through and she tried it twice. So she charged us the full amount CAD 400+ on my card. I was like, ok I'll just make the insurance claim myself. The wife filed her insurance claim and mine and waited a couple of days for it to be reflected to my bank. The insurance was able to give her refund of $120 to my account but my other $120 didn't reflect on my account. So we checked our insurance account and we found out that on September 1, that $120 was paid to Alfa Spa who filed the claim to begin with. I even called the insurance to make sure. In short, they were paid $120 on top of the amount they charged us. So I tried to give them a visit after my workday to let them know about what happened and to have the $120 refunded to my account. Their website said they're open until 8 p.m. but the truth is they close early, way early like 5 p.m. I tried to give them a call and this rude Chinese lady answered. I calmly let her know of the situation but she downright said they don't give refunds. This is bad business practice not to mention our 120 bucks was basically gone. They don't play it fair. Since it was the first one, I thought that probably I would have to fill in some forms and I decided to arrive earlier at 5:15pm. When I arrived, the office was closed with a post-it on the door mentioning "I will come back at 5:45pm". I thought it was weird if my appointment was at 5:30pm but I decided to wait. The office is at the second floor on a building with no AC at the hallways and I did have a face mask so it was very annoying due to the hot. Then, at 5:40pm another client came and told me she did have an appointment at 5:45pm. So, when I explained to her than I had been waiting for a while she called the owner and she told her we were both there. This customer told me that she preferred calling her because the first time she went there the same thing happened to her and the owner had completely forgotten about her appointment as well. When the owner came back, she didn't even bother to apologize and she just asked the other lady to go inside instead of me who at that point had been waiting for more than 30 minutes! When I asked her about my appointment, she just told me what I was explaining was "impossible" because she did book my appointment for 6pm and that she went out at 5:30pm (seriously?! When she had done the same to the same other client on her first appointment as well? And when I had been there since 5:15pm?). In few words, after all the wait she just implied I was lying about the time of my appointment, as well as all the time I had been waiting there and she didn't even apologize. Just told me that because I did have to fill in some forms (almost at 6pm), the other customer was going first. I was VERY frustrated so I decided to find another place to go. I've had IPL treatments in the past at other places and never felt they were very effective. But my dermatologist was recommending a combination of IPL and microdermabrasion to combat redness I've been experiencing from rosacea in the past few years. So when I saw the Groupon for IPL at an actual laser clinic, I figured I'd try it out. My initial package was for a series of four treatments. Most places suggest a series of 4-6 treatments, and this clinic was no different in that regard. Where they do stand out from other clinics, is in the quality of the service provided. During my first appointment, I noticed a big difference in the whole experience right away. The technician really took her time to look at my skin and discuss my concerns, and she really seemed to want to help me. Other places I've been to in the past have done treatments, and then quickly moved on to up-selling on products or additional services. At LS Laser Clinic, I've felt like the end result is just as important to them as it is for me. They do carry the Dermalogica line of skin care, but I've never been pushed to buy anything. I will likely purchase the calming gel, though, as it's very soothing after IPL. If you've never had it done before, the treatment feels like a rubber band snapping against your skin. Actually, more like a rubber band made of molten steel. Just kidding. I guess it depends on your tolerance level, but I've had IPL treatments in other places that could be described as mildly uncomfortable at most. But here, it's pretty intense. Maybe the equipment is better, or the treatment is more thorough than other places, I don't know. But for me, it's quite painful and my face is usually puffy and quite red after. While the redness goes away within an hour or two, the swelling can last for a couple of days for me. I have quite sensitive skin, though, so my results may not be typical. So it's been several months since I started going here and I'm now on my second series of treatments. I waited to write a review until I could see serious results. While I could see drastic improvements after my 3rd treatment, I knew it would be better to wait at least until my 6th treatment to really see a change. I honestly can't believe the difference in my skin since my first appointment. The technician, Faezeh, took photos in my first appointment and it's amazing how much better my skin looks - both skin tone and texture - since that first visit. I still have two more sessions, but I'm absolutely thrilled with the improvement so far. I highly recommended LS Laser Clinic to anyone who is looking to improve their skin using IPL. They do provide other services, but I can only comment on what I've actually experienced with IPL.
