Better Mexican food is here than the other place in this same strip mall, although the prices are higher. El Vallartazo certainly is expensive for some basic items. It's easy to find Mexican places in West Chicago, and this is among the more authentic ones. Higher prices are about the only bad thing you get. That and there's a lot of seafood and not much else, so it's slim pickings if you don't like fish or whatever. Came in here after not liking the other Mexican place next to here because of few of any choices. It's La Gisoles, and the menu is very limited. The menu isn't that great here either, but they have margaritas, which the other place didn't or any kind of alcohol whatsoever. Expensive menu. The drinks are good, especially cantaritos, of which they have a few of these. All sounded good. We got the Cantarito Vallartazo. It's about $17 and comes in a clay pot. That's a lot for any drink, but this was good though. It has so much stuff in it. This is Modelo with chopped fruit, grapefruit soda, lemon juice, orange juice, and a small bottle of tequila. As for the food, it was seafood and not much else. We ended up with Aguacate, which is guacamole. It's about $8 for some with tortilla chips. They gave a lot for the price. It helped after the drink. The guacamole was creamy and spicy. Good place if you like authentic Mexican. It's even better if you also happen to like seafood. Drove by a few weeks ago and finally got the chance to try it out today. Very happy I did. Food was very good. We had the langostinos, very good, not salty like other places; also had the platillo chapuzón which is shrimp, octopus, n oysters, other places serve it with fish instead of oysters, this was so much better; we also ordered the shrimp empanadas and they were the best I've ever had. The ceviche was also good. Waitress came by enough to not be overbearing or neglectful. Best part is that you can bring ur own liquor!!! Will definitely come here again!!! read more

Had a great time with my friends trying many of the dishes that they had here. If you don't like seafood you shouldn't even bother. We tried shrimp paella, shrimp fajitas, an appetizer with crab legs, prawns, shrimp, mussels, and octopus. The thing you really need to try is the shrimp empanada. It doesn't look like much, but they were really something that needs to be tried. They were amazing and we all liked them. Would recommend this place to anyone. The Langostinos in the Nayarit sauce were AMAZING. We also tried the shrimp cocktail which was loaded with shrimp and the ceviche. Everything was fresh and yummy. My kids had the fish sticks with rice but ended up enjoying our food better. Service was decent but I wish they filled up my water bc the salsa was spicy. Plenty of seating and parking. Complimentary ceviche with two side salsas and a whole bag of tostadas to start. This place is all about seafood. Prawns, mussels, crab legs,shrimp,lobster, octopus, oysters, clams, and whole fish. A variety of preparation/sauce styles. Generous portions. On top of that, your meal comes with salad, rice, fries and garlic bread. Did I mention BYOB? People were coming in with cases of Corona and Modelo and the restaurant will bring out a tub of ice for you. UPDATE #1: They are now charging $2.00/person corkage fee. This is excessive and I won't be going back until they change their fee structure. Most places charge $2.00/bottle or six pack. UPDATE #2: The service has slowed considerably. I was there with four other people and they were bringing out our meals at a rate of one per 10 minutes to our table. read more

The food has always been pretty good. I loved coming here. Byob restaurants are always a hit. Except, the last couple of times i've been here, the service has not been the best. Took us 30 minutes for a server to attend us. Even after we were attended to, our server was a little rude. We told him that the paper towels in the bathroom were empty and he rolled his eyes as he walked away. We were the last group in the restaurant.
