A fantastic family hole in the wall restaurant serving delicious food in a clean, humble establishment.

I was skeptical to go into this place as from the outside it seems like a hole in the wall but, I'm glad I tried it. The chips and salsa are pretty tasty, the salsa has just the right amount of spicy kick. I ordered the huarache, it was a good portion, it had plenty of meat and tasted delicious. My kids ordered the flautas combo and they both love the food. The counter lady/server had great customer service, she was friendly and efficient. Will definitely come back! read more

Came across this place while driving to Palm Springs from LAX. The carne asada tacos did not disappoint. The salsa is also very fresh and amazing. I also had a shrimp and chicken taco which were very tasty, but the carne asada was hands down the best. Very authentic and affordable for the quality of food. I would also recommend the cucumber appetizer. It's so light and refreshing with the chili powder. I would highly recommend if you're looking for quick good food. read more

Def a hole in the wall kind of place, but the food is very delicious. Their chips salsa is really good. We ordered a wet carne asada burrito and it was one of the best green salsa burritos I've ever had. Portion was pretty big, and their prices are super affordable. Definitely a hidden gem. read more

One of the best kept secrets in all of Riverside. My family has been ordering food here since I was as tall as the counter in front. I admit we always take the food to go and eat at home, but it's almost become somewhat of a family tradition to pick up a couple pounds of meat, beans, rice and salsa and have dinner as a family at home. It doesn't hurt that the food is actually amazing, as it has always been. Just think about it right now makes me want to stop by on my way home and pick up a pound of carne asada to make tacos at home with my wife. This place is pretty much the gold standard for me for Mexican food, and their food will always bring me fond memories. read more

El Trigo is amazing! Definitely my top mexican food restaurant in the Riverside area. For Lunch, they have a special for $5.50 that includes 2 Cheese Enchiladas, Beans & Rice. The quality of the enchiladas was amazing; probably the best enchiladas I've had in years actually. I was pleasantly surprised on the food quality and tableside chips and salsa for the price. It's a steal! El Trigo also has a jukebox machine which only adds to the ambiance. I would highly recommend trying this place out. read more

Order the enchilada plate it was fatty The Molcajete was not what we expected use to it coming out hot on the Molcajete ( like Fonda don chon) it was a foil on top of the Molcajete and it was much smaller then what we are use to getting. Came here on Christmas Eve during my annual road trip. Had my doubts before stepping into the restaurant but so glad I did! They may not have a fancy exterior but the staff was very friendly and the food was delicious. I especially liked how light their chips were so you wouldn't get full before the entree comes. I discovered El Trigo Comida Mexicana on restaurant.com, a website that sells restaurant gift certificates at a fraction of the cost. I got a $10 one for $1 with a 80% coupon code (usually $5). It requires a minimum purchase of $20 and 15% gratuity added prior to discount, but that is not a big deal for me. On to the review: The restaurant is small and with not much around it. I went here with my girlfriend and we enjoyed ourselves very much. According to the gift certificate, it is for dine-in only but the female owner who took our order let us take it to-go :D. She was extremely kind and helpful. This place has an impressive list of meats (a little overwhelming) but she answered all of our questions and recommended some dishes. They have combo plates, tacos, burritos, tortas, and carne asada fries. You get a lot of food for the price and costs are very reasonable. I had enough leftover for the next day! The food was delicious. I would rather have good food and great service than great food and poor service, but El Trigo Comida Mexicana is just great overall. I am definitely taking back my 4 star review. My bf and I went here yesterday and he found a metal hook of some sort in his burrito!! We both ordered the carne asada burrito and we ate probably 3/4 of it before he found it and spit it out. We were so horrified and disgusted. The workers gave his burrito for free but I was charged for mine. What made the issue worse was the worker kept saying "I don't know where this could have came from". They didn't really seem sorry or apologetic. We used to be regular customers and now we think back and think if we ate something else in our food on accident. Never coming back here again. Well from what I read on here I thought this place would be really good. But no it was ok. Wouldn't go back. I had brkfast plate . Asada and legua tacos Asada had alot of fat and legua was nasty just looking at it I didn't like it. Also tried a small pozole tasted like menudo :(....... Rice and beans were good. Chips and salsa good. Service was good till they charged me for a rolled taco remake because of server error. She rolled her eyes and walked away. Not my fault you don't understand rolled taco with just chesse. Gave me a cheese rolled taco. Then I said no I just want chesse on top with meat in side. This little restaurant is GREAT. From the caldos to the burgers, no other local restaurant beats this. This is the spot to be.

We love El Trigo. They have great service. We order by phone and pick up. They have vegan options (I'm not sure I always believe that since how can we know f they use lard in the beans, etc). But they remember us when we call and never get our order wrong. I'm giving 4 stars because I thought I noticed they had a B grade at least at some point. It doesn't seem especially clean in there either but the food is pretty darn good. My husband says they have really good menudo. read more

Hidden in a not so great area of Riverside, this place is a gem. Amazing tacos! Found out about El Trigo after reading the current issue of the Inland Empire Magazine. Went and ordered vegetarian tacos not on the menu. The waitress was very sweet and encouraged us to get creative with what we wanted. Said they would make anything we asked for. I'm not sure why this place is rated so well. Yes the food was okay and the staff is very nice, but it's not 5 star worthy. The salsa is watery and not at all hot, plus it has animal hair in it. The food is good, I like the flavor of the beans,rice, and salsas. I give 3 stars to the food. If I could give rate just the place appearance, I would give 0 stars. The owners really need to invest on it. Napkins holders are made up from beer boxes. The floors, ceilings, Windows, chair, are duty and need some repair. Overall the place was not clean.. My new favorite Mexican spot in Riverside!!!1 (Sorry Ramiro's!) This past weekend I actually went twice in one day just to try new items. They food is simple, plentiful, and damn good! The girls that work there are so nice. Green Chile Chilaquiles are awesome, and their green pork burrito was huge and tasty, for $3.75. Digging into their Mariscos this week to give them a try as well. I dont know how their menu is so big with such a tiny kitchen. Area is not the best, and the restaurant is not the classiest.... get over it... If Las Campanas at the Mission Inn is more your style, stay there.... My wife and I have been looking for authentic Mexican food in California for a while, and this is the perfect place for it. The cooking here reminds her of her mom's, and the salsa is authentic and flavorful. The tacos taste exactly like the famed tacos of Tijuana, but have more generous portions, and are roughly the same price ($1.35 per taco). As other reviewers have commented, parking is an adventure, but the food is fantastic and well worth it. Will definitely be coming back. :) read more

Coming to El Trigo makes me feel two things. The first is that I am in Mexico. The juke box plays some firme rollas, the decorations and style remind me of Baja. Number two the hospitality makes me feel like I'm am at relatives house. They always welcome my wife and I and treat us with respect and just that family feeling. On top of all that the food has been amazing and authentic. We have had gorditas, sopes and menudo. All has been served with hot chips and different types of salsa. All that's needed is the couch, tv and some stray dogs to cruz by and I would believe I was visiting familia in Mexico. read more

I came here years ago and I really don't understand how this place has gone up to almost five stars. This is not a five star place to eat at let me tell you! I ordered the shrimp ceviche and it was warm and not the freshest I've ever had. The place is really not the cleanest and it totally FORSURE is in a part of riverside I would never want to walk alone in lol I remember walking in and out of the place feeling so scared!!! lol anyway, the service wasn't that great either and the prices are so high for what you get I don't understand why it's so pricey.
