I've going to this location for years and have loved it. But we went yesterday for dinner and learned of all the changes. They no longer offer chips and salsa unless you pay for it, instead you get beans and chips. No table side guacamole, they make it in the back. So you can't customize it to your liking. The fajitas duo, no longer comes with the cheese enchilada. And they weren't sizzling as advertised, more on the room temp side. I get making changes, but why take away the items that bring customers in? On top of all that, the service wasn't great. We waited for a bit and they messed up 2/4 orders. I realized I haven't been giving El Torito enough credit for what it serves. I know it's a very common chain restaurant, so I honestly wasn't expecting to be impressed--but I was pleasantly surprised. I had a couple of gin and tonics, which were really good, and ordered the shrimp and crab enchiladas. I was a little hesitant because, let's face it, this isn't fine dining--it's El Torito. But to my surprise, the enchiladas were extremely good, and so were the drinks. Sometimes you don't need fancy--you just need good food, good drinks, and an enjoyable evening. El Torito delivered exactly that. Definitely recommended for a casual, enjoyable night out. Three stars from me is a good rating. I'm very particular and have high expectations when it comes to food, service, and atmosphere. To earn four or five stars from me, a restaurant would have to exceed my expectations in all three areas. I don't give those ratings easily. read more

The service was very slow took 45 minutes to get our food and the place was almost empty. The happy hour menu has changed and not for the better, less choices higher prices, the guacamole with Chicharrones had chunks of fat, not regular Chicharrones. The taco Birria used to be 3 tacos now is only 2 tacos and higher prices and poor quality. The street tacos over priced and not very good. We also ordered from the regular menu, took another extra 10 minutes to bring the food. This happened during the World Cup games. Now I know why this place was almost empty. I only saw my server three times: when he took my order, when he brought my drink, and when he delivered my food. After that, he never checked back on the table. I was never offered a refill on my drink, nor was I receive one throughout my meal. What made the experience more disappointing was seeing the female servers around me being very attentive to their tables, while the young male server assigned to me seemed completely disengaged. It's unfortunate because what could have been a great dining experience was ultimately overshadowed by the poor service. Unfortunately, my family and I did not enjoy our experience tonight. First, we were seated in an area of the restaurant off to the side where it was so hot and humid with no air conditioning. My husband's Shirley temple tasted like water and they never asked how I wanted the meat on my burger cooked. On top of that, when they brought out my meal they told me they ran out of French fries. My replacement? RICE AND BEANS! With a burger! I wasn't asked what alternative I wanted, I was just given that. From the moment I walked up the service was bad. There was three staff talking amongst themselves at the desk where you check in and not one of the three staff acknowledged either of us. It even got to the point where I had actually say "someone needs to acknowledge me right now" Then the guy looked at me, in which case I asked if we just walk in and he said no we would need to be seated. Again, this is after several seconds of standing right in front of them, and none of them even greeting us not even a simple "we will be right with you." They didn't even look at us. We decided just to go straight to the bar after that. We were able to sit down right away. The music was good they had mariachis. The vibe in the energy and there is great. The place is very large, there's tons of seating in the bar section. And there's actually two bars, one full bar and a smaller one. They have hightop tables, bar, seating, booths. The restrooms are clean and nice. I love the mirrors. When you can get a hold of the staff, they're very friendly. Unfortunately, on this beautiful Sunday, they were incredibly short staffed. Our poor bartender was not only bartending everyone that was in there, (more than 20ppl) but he was also the one taking the orders as well. We spent a good amount of time waiting just for our order to be taken. And we actually had to have a server from the other room come and take it because he was too busy. I ordered the lemon rosemary chicken. I believe it was called. When reading it, the mango habanero salsa on top sounded so good. So tell me why when I got my plate there was no salsa at all . The chicken was still very delicious. I didn't want to ask for them to get salsa because as it was, we had to wait a long time for each drink. Anytime we did need something The bartender would have to go to get it, which means we're taking him away from the bar completely. Which made me not want to ask for anything not even a fork. The food is very good, and the drinks were delicious. My friend got the trio plate and he loved all of it Unfortunately, the service. Terrible. We were there for 3 hours. lol because that's how long it took to get drinks, to get our food. We weren't planning on being there that long. Overall, the experience was not great. I was very disappointed in my chicken missing the toppings and ingredients it's being advertised for. Took my leftovers home, I must say the mango habanero salsa was so freaking good! I really wish they would've actually put it on the chicken when they served it. I'm so disappointed. It would have tasted so good if it would've been fresh.
