We stopped here for lunch while heading southbound on I65 heading towards Louisville. A real find, great staff, wonderful food and very nice decor. For starters, the chips and salsa that arrived while we contemplated the menu were very fresh. The salsa with just the right amount of spice. I was thinking of a light lunch so I skipped over the rest of the menu and went right to the lunch specials, there may have been about 30 choices. I selected the Steak Fajitas. My wife, feeling the same, selected the Acapulco Steak. Both were served with salads; mine with the addition of beans and hers with rice. My fajitas filled 3 tortilla shells, enough still on the platter to make another. They were too delicious not to finish. I can not imagine how much food you might get with the regular portions. Menu pictures. They seem to have a great lunch menu as well. I really like the salsa, and we both really liked the food. I got pollo Monterey and it was good. I also got a chile relleno, but was disappointed with the very small chunk of pepper that was in it. I'm used to having that being a stuffed pepper. Nope.... I just moved back from Texas, and I'm sorry but this was not Mexican food. Menu is overwhelming. I tried the burrito deluxe, eww. The flour tortillas were very soggy, beef was ok but chicken needed a lot of work. Seating was uncomfortable at a booth, table was too low for the booth. Overpriced for the quality. Waiter was polite but seemed rushed, and there weren't a lot of customers in there. Good location, but lots of work to do. I live maybe 1.5 miles from this place. I eat here at least weekly with my family, but not because of the convenience. I live a mile from a Waffle House and I've been there once in many years. The staff is super fabulous. They remember you. The food is awesome. They make amazing Margaritas. I have had lunch, dinner, two folks, huge parties... they never disappoint. Standard Mexican fare down the way from the Edinburgh outlet. The servers are nice and do call their guests "señor" or "amigo" as one reviewer stated. The salsa is mild with a lot of cilantro, and the chips are warm and good. I ordered a large horchata which was a bit more than I expected, but for $2.99 it's a good deal. I also ordered the Golden Enchiladas - shredded chicken enchiladas that are fried (kind of like flautas) and covered in cheese sauce with guacamole salad and rice on the side. The dish was hot and satisfying, and came out no more than 10 minutes after we ordered. I'll come back again. read more

I love going to this place. The shrimp burritos covered in Queso with the side of beans and rice is my go to. I'm a huge sucker for Queso and El Toreo's is wonderful. El Toreo is nothing life changing, but if you're hunkering for authentic mexican food nearby, this is the place to go. Very solid experiences every time I go in. read more

Average Mexican restaurant. The chips are not as good here as they are in other Mexican restaurants. Then I learned this one is actually a chain...well that was a little disappointing. The chips are kinda hard & flavorless too. And they kind of cheat you on salsa. They give you this giant bowl, but is only about a quarter full. Our food was average. Nothing special. Also I've been here three time in the last year & it always looks like they started a remodel, & just Stopped!?!? There are holes in the walls, cracked drywall, tape on some spots on the floors, and spots that look like all it needs is a little paint. But no one seems to concerned with the restaurant overall appearance. Shows they don't really care to me....Oh & never touch the plates after they bring it to you. Food is good which is why I kept going back but reached my absolute limit tonight. Never order iced tea there. It's so watered down does not even taste like tea. Service is horrible. They always overcharge on the bill. Tonight was the 3rd and final time they overcharged me. Even told them they had charged too much. Said they would fix it but didn't. Soon my arrival I was underwhelmed particularly because you could walk in here blindfolded and not know it was a restaurant because there is no smell of any food. On the other hand visually the decor is nice and authentic along with the music. After sitting in a restaurant with only 3 other tables we waited 5 minutes until we saw a server but after we order the drinks were brought immediately. Next we were bought our cheese dip which was very cold and just seemed like it had been sitting awhile. The meal came out quickly and the portions were very cost appropriate one of our meals was seasoned great and the other was extremely bland. The server came back multiple times to check on us but dropped the bill on the table with out asking if we needed anything else like desert more food, drink or anything else. When we went up to pay the cashier was on a personal call on speaker phone and immediately took it off speaker and put it up to his ear. Overall if you are looking for quantity over quality this is a great place to go. read more

Went here on lunch a few days ago with a couple of coworkers. First impression was that the tables were pretty small for a party of 3. Regardless we sat down and ordered our drinks which came pretty quick from one of the super friendly wait staff that addressed us as either "amigo" or "señor" which was cool. Then came the chips and salsa. The salsa was awesom, it wasn't that watered down crap that you get a chili's, it was real to the deal chunky salsa. Tasted great. A co worker of mine ordered the white quest also, this was fantastic. Then came the burrito. It was the size of the dinner plate that it came on. Surprising. I ordered the hot and spicy one, and it was the perfect amount of hot and spicy. Loved it. Anyway, I'll be eating here again, and at some point even though I live an hour north of this place, I'll be bringing my family here to enjoy this awesome place too! Well done El Toreo. read more
