Started with a few glasses of wine and a beer, all on point. Then came the food. The mussels were really original. They came in an Italian sausage sauce, thicker than your typical white wine broth, unlike anything I've ever had with mussels before. A little salty, but the mussels themselves were good quality and it came with bread for dipping. For the main, I had the rigatoni with chicken, which had a somewhat similar sauce with great flavors. Both dishes showed some real creativity in the kitchen. But what really sets R Wine Bar & Kitchen apart is the environment. This place has a vibe. I ended up meeting some cool people traveling through from Tennessee and had some of the best conversations I've had at a bar. Really friendly people all around. That kind of atmosphere can't be manufactured. The Verdict: R Wine Bar & Kitchen is the real deal. Great food, great wine, great service from Samantha and Jaxson, and an environment that turns strangers into friends. If you're in Sioux Falls, try it out. Five stars, absolutely worth it.

I…read morestumbled across Gist on one of my many visits to Sioux Falls after struggling to find a bar or wineshop with a comprehensive natural wine selection. Gist's wine selection is impressive, and the owner is actually a sommelier which is not usually the case at a small wine shop (especially outside of major U.S. cities). If you're in Sioux Falls and like wine, you must stop by Gist.

Ethan was an incredible bartender and made an exquisite dirty martini. Seriously, if you love a good dirty martini, don't skip it. One of the highlights of the evening was learning about the building's history and hearing about the upcoming live music that performs downstairs in the cozy speakeasy. It's definitely a reason to come back again. And a huge shoutout to Leo, the waiter, he is the bomb! Friendly, attentive, personable, and he genuinely made us feel welcome. If you're looking for amazing cocktails, great food, outstanding service, and a place with character, Myrtle's is a must-visit. Unfortunately, things went downhill from there. The interior was nicely decorated with a good variety of seating. I grabbed a spot on the couches, but it took a very long time to get any service. Honestly, the service was awful. It really felt like they needed at least two servers on the floor to keep up. We were ignored for quite a while, so I eventually got up and asked for a menu at the bar. When we were finally ready to order, it took just as long to get the drink as it did to get someone's attention. I'm not sure if the bartender was new or overwhelmed, but it wasn't a great experience. On the plus side, the wine list was impressive. I had a Riesling, which was delicious, you can't really go wrong with wine. We ordered a small margherita pizza, and when it arrived, it was cold, heat-lamp for a while sitting cold. Our server (Ben, I think?) never checked in after dropping it off, and honestly, it didn't even feel worth mentioning at that point. We ate and left soon after. It may have just been an off night, but the service was bad enough that I'm not in a rush to give it another try.
