El Supremo, my former neighbourhood chippy. If you eat out of there at peak time on a Friday (between 5 and 7 in the evening), when the queue is all around the shop and out the door, you'll get very good fresh fish and chips, though somewhat pricey considering it is just a neighbourhood chippy. However, other than cod, fish is cooked to order even during peak times, which can leave you standing in the shop for ages, though their openness to phone orders will help the organised amongst you. The other strike against it is that other than at peak times, the shop is wildly inconsistent. Occasionally, everything is fresh but mostly it's absolutely dreadful. The chips will be cold and soggy, the fish will be bone dry and overbaked. Contrast this with the Big Catch in Beckenham High Street, where everything seems to be fresh all the time, it's understandable why this is just a neighbourhood chippy. read more
