So I searched different restaurants for good menudo. A lot of restaurants have that chewy tripe that's harder to chew. I was so impressed with El Super menudo. The Chili Relleno that you reheat, sold in the deli are Terrible. They are a huge gamble , 3/4 of the time the Chili's are AS TOUGH AS LEATHER and impossible to chew !!! And the second the cheese cools down, it turns into a solid block of greasy stuff that doesn't even taste like cheese. It's the grand opening of EL Super at Manchester mall today, and wow, this place is legit. Like, I was just there for some eggs and somehow walked out with three bags, a full stomach, and a new appreciation for pan dolce. first off the store is massive! Like Costco level, big, but way more colorful and honestly way more fun. They've got everything a regular grocery store has fruits, veggies, meats, snacks, household stuff, but it's all centered around Hispanic flavors, which made it feel like an actual experience instead of just a grocery run also spotted a bunch of international stuff. The produce section is super fresh! The bakery is definitely dangerous. How to talk myself out of buying a dozen conchas. The hot bar smelled like delicious cuisine cooking. They also have money services if you're in need. The lines were long, but it's a grand opening so that's kind of expected. Surprisingly the staff had everything running smoothly. People were super friendly, high energy, and you could tell that they were hyped to be there. Everything was super clean, sanitized and organized, which I appreciated. Not really in the neighborhood, but there aren't many options in the Old Fig area anymore. It's kind of cool to see storefronts along the front of Manchester Center in 2025. I shopped there years ago in the Red Robin-Sears-Granny's Attic days. Anyway, we just noticed this store yesterday when we drove by, so we decided to come back and check it out. You're likely NOT coming here for the hot food area, but there may be something good... I just wanted to buzz through the store to get a first look at what went in. And let me tell you, it's awesome. The store is huge and it was doing a brisk business. There's a vast selection of things, extensive. The parking lot was pretty busy, so be careful about strangers and where you're parking your car. It's a condensed area of dysfunction around this part of town. I absolutely love when a dilapidated, idle, property is put to good use again. And in a selfish sense, it offloads some of the other grocery options up the street, helping to make them less condensed. A boom for anybody living close to the store. All in all this seems like an awesome fit for the old Sears building. Nothing excites me more than a home improvement project, really. In the same sense when a significant improvement is made in any part of the city, it's something to celebrate and be grateful for. So happy to see the investment in the area! -G read more

Finally visited the new just opened El Super and I just love a new squeaky clean store. Everything is so organized and the selections of hot food, ceviches, desserts and produce is amazing right now. It wasn't busy when I went there was like one cashier in front. The shelf items are a bit pricier than the average grocery store so I kinda stay away from that. This review is for the hot food section. My mom ordered cheese enchiladas and I order the chile relleno. Both came with rice, beans, tortillas and salsa. Ordering in itself was quite disorganized, and the line was very slow. Unfortunately, my mom received chicken enchiladas, not CHEESE. Visually, they looked horrible. Super dry and cracked with small bits of dry enchilada sauce on top - not a smooth hot layer of sauce and grated cheese. They don't make them fresh, so they are already sitting in the hot tray getting overcooked. Mom confirmed they tasted just as bad as they looked and after 2 bites into the trash it went. The beans and rice were horrible too. Dry, old tasting, strange flavor. The chile relleno was a 2 out of 5, barely edible. Mine went into the trash as well. What a waste of money! My mom also got the Jamaica/hibiscus juice, which had zero flavor. We overheard a woman seated next to us saying her Horchata tasted like straight up milk and had zero flavor. Perhaps the produce, meats, and other items in the store are okay, but the hot food eatery is horrible. I will do my shopping and eating at Vallarta which is 100x's better! read more

Have shopped here, but never tried the hot food. Waited in line to order. When I got to the front on the line the lady skipped me and helped the next guy. The next lady also skipped me. When I asked if anyone was going to help me they both glanced up quickly and went back to the people they were helping. Neither one ever said a word to me so I left. Pepe's Kitchen review: Not good even for the reasonable price. Got the verde tacos and the pork was not slow cooked, moist or tender. All they did was throw some verde sauce on top of pork carnitas meat that was overcooked, dried out and almost impossible to chew. Verde sauce tasted like it came off the shelf. When I showed them a big piece of meat that looked like it had been left in the oven for a month and was hard as a rock they were nonchalant about it. Not going to lie it's a very clean store, but very disappointed in the tortillas department. Majority of the time they don't have the yellow corn tortillas. Don't like the white ones since they leave a weird after taste. When asking the ladies that work there they brush you off with the machine is not working, or we don't know when we'll have any. I like going to this location because it's closer to home but I may need to start going back to First & Tulare if they can't keep product on hand. The kitchen service is the most horrible thing about this place. If the employees' attitude is terrible, I don't even want to imagine how they prepare the food. I usually go in the afternoons because the morning staff are always in a bad mood when serving customers, and by the way, instead of being busy, the place was empty this morning, and of course, there are plenty of reasons why. Let me explain the worst thing: I always see the women who are cleaning not washing their hands; they just put on gloves and start serving. Please, they should wash their hands and then put on the gloves, but none of them do it. The kitchen manager looks like a woman who cleans bathrooms, all dirty and with an arrogant attitude. Another manager, I didn't understand what she's in charge of, looks like she just came from a nightclub, dressed in tight clothes with her hair down in the kitchen.
