Came here with a large group, party of 24. We made a reservation ahead of time and when we arrived, our table was ready. Plenty of parking. They seated our group in their private room towards the back of the restaurant. We had the entire room to ourselves. They didn't seat other customers in the room with us. We only had one server, but he handled our group really well. He was very efficient, attentive and quick to respond. They served chips and salsa as soon as we were seated. The chips were thin and had a nice crunch. Salsa looked and tasted fresh. I ordered shrimp tacos for my entree and spicy margaritas to drink. I tried their spicy mango margarita first then a spicy jalapeño margarita on the rocks. Both drinks were great and strong, but I enjoyed the spicy jalapeño marg more. I love muddled jalapeños in my marg! I should note that the margaritas were served in a giant margarita glass, almost as big as my head! It's the equivalent of two drinks at other restaurants. My entree came with three tacos. I requested corn tortillas but failed to ask for onions and cilantro. Instead, I received shrimp tacos covered in lettuce and cheese. Not what I was looking for, but that was my fault. It was pretty tasty nonetheless. Everyone enjoyed their drinks and entrees. The staff was friendly and welcoming. Normally, I wait a day or two to post reviews and think of as many things that went well to post. Tonight is an exception. We went on a Saturday night, hours were to 9pm. We barely walked in at 8:12 and were asked to turn off the open sign above us. The place was quiet with the exception of one decent sized group. Another couple had walked in right before us and one was anxiously looking for their bill. We ordered the Chorizo dip, steak ranchero, Carnegie asada, one crispy beef taco and a tamales. We rate on steak, taco and tamale when we try a New Mexican restaurant. Steaks were fingernail thin, overcooked on one side and grey on the other. Tamale dry and taco flavorless. The dip was all cheese and a crumble of chorizo with the smallest basket of chips ever. Salsa was watered down as well. Basic beans and old rice or so it seemed. Even the corn tortillas lacked any depth or flavor. It looked like husband and wife owners who were there had absolutely no care for their customers and it was passed on to the wait staff. No refills, no checking in, no carry out box offering. Check placed as soon as we took 2 bites and staff sitting in booths (jackets on) staring at us to hurry up. Definitely NOT where you want to go for any occasion much less a weekend night out. read more

We tried this restaurant because it appeared very popular especially for a Tuesday night. We were seated and waited on quickly. The salsa served with chips was one of the best I have ever had - very flavorful, and the cilantro stood out. The mango juice was excellent and my Hubble enjoyed his frozen margarita. I had a delicious chicken soup - with potatoes in it, which was unusual compared to my other Mexican chicken soup experiences. My husband throughly enjoyed his sirloin. Our only negative was that the waitress disappeared and did not bring our check. We had to ask to find her after about 15 minutes. read more

Compared to the many Mexican restaurants at which I've eaten over the years, they offer some of the best food. Consistency is pretty good too, which is not always the case with others. The service is usually great to good, but sometimes it is a little off depending on the staff (but never terrible). Service was slow like molasses, came in with low expectations as we could not find anything to eat in the area at 7:30pm on a sunday night. We ordered guacamole with pico de gallo, chicken soup, chiles poblanos (filled with cheese and spinach) which came with a side of refried beans and rice. A taco salad with chicken and 2 chicken quesadillas. All the food was basic mexican fare, no thrills, the beers are cheap. All the servings are pretty big, so no room for dessert. The food is very good-we live in Atlanta and we are visiting the area for the week- we have had all kinds of Mexican food-we didn't know what to expect here at lake oconee...we were happily surprised by the food and the service was very good! Have been here twice and the first time took over THREE HOURS, this time no one came to our table for over 15 mins to even get a drink order. This was after we stood at the hostess stand waiting for a good 5 mins before anyone acknowledged us. It was full of servers and maybe 6-8 tables max, all small parties. I went up to the check out stand and explained very nicely that we were leaving and why and I offered to pay for our chips and salsa. The lady told me not to worry about it we could just go! I thought maybe she didn't hear what I said so I repeated myself and got the same response from her. NO APOLOGY nor effort to make it right. NEVER AGAIN! It was just ok for me. We have frequented many Mexican restaurants in different cities and this one didn't really stand out in any respect. Food was pretty average and the service was surprisingly slow given how few patrons were in the restaurant that day for lunch. Please consider other options, unless you have time and money to waste on sub-par everything. We should have left when there was confusion with seating, although we never figured out why. The workers near the front seemed unorganized and appeared frazzled. We allow for things, especially in this particular time of such uncertainty. With employee shortages, often untrained staff, regular menu item food stuffs not been available, we know owners and managers have a hard time, but this particular experience was just absolutely avoidable. The place looked really staffed up, so something else was going on other than staff shortages. Although one of us is handicapped and it's obvious, we were still taken on a trek through a narrow passage to the very back, although several other seatings for two was clearly available closer to the front. We didn't complain, we just followed the host who was also waiting on people as we went along. Waiters with drinks and large amounts of food on trays above their heads and ours were squeezing by us, there was a guy sweeping in the aisle as we passed by and no one made an effort to move so we could follow the host. One lady did speak say hi to us though. It was stop and go for a bit, but we finally arrived at our seat facing the nearby kitchen door. Once seated we waited thirty plus minutes for two sodas and water. The waiter continually told us each time he walked by they were very busy that night and he was doing his best. We were inclined to feel for his plight and decided to just enjoy our drinks and be patient. Three hours and several request later for the check, it finally arrived. A $70 bill for cold food that all tasted the same. Cold food in a Mexican establishment is very rare indeed, it usually arrives really hot and they warn you about the burn risk with the serving dishes, not the case on our visit. Then we waited approximately an additional thirty minutes to process the payment. We don't mind paying for good food, we order what we want and we have an expectation that it will taste good and that we will be served properly. We ordered house fajitas,a burrito, couple of tacos, rice, beans and cheese dip, the usual fair, but a variety of flavors was expected, since there were so many elements to the dishes. I'm not sure how they achieved it, but it really all tasted the same, cold and bland, it had very little if any seasonings in the food. Many people complain just to be complaining, they will find something wrong in even the best of situations, not the case with us. We are easy to please. We enjoy dining out and also enjoy interacting cheerfully with staff members and we enjoy tipping accordingly based on the treatment we receive. We will even enjoy less than good food if we are treated kindly. Hey, the wait staff doesn't cook the food. We just want to enjoy the dining experience. We have standard expectations and know there are times when some things happen, we just don't expect so very many things to happen all in the same visit. There is no excuse for poor treatment of customers, especially if they are not complaining or being obnoxious or causing problems in general, none of which we ever do. We require very little and even try to help with clearing and stacking our table, so there is no need to provide us shabby treatment. After three hours of watching our waiter our sympathy for him dwindled as we observed he only had 4 tables, so it wasn't like he was swamped and none of the tables had more than 4-5 people at any given time during our visit. He spent most of the time in the kitchen and a great deal of his time laughing and joking with one particular table while the other three went lacking. There were looks of disappointment and anxiousness coming from a few of the other faces seated at his tables as well. All this being said, that is three hours we cannot recoup and we ate very little of what we did receive and we certainly didn't take it with us, it was not fit to share with our cat. We have to give this place one star. There is however another much smaller establishment called El Agave not far from this place where the food is delicious and the family is so nice and accommodating. It is our go to spot, but we just went to this place because we wanted to try another restaurant for a change. Big mistake. read more

In town visiting family and we stopped here for dinner on Sunday night. The food was amazing. Honestly some of the best Mexican that I have had in a while. I had the grilled steak tacos and they were phenomenal! Unfortunately the service was sub par. It took asking for guacamole twice before we got it. We are not checked on about how our food was until after everyone had finished. It took me getting up after over 5 minutes to try and find a server (one had looked at me square in he face 3 times and walked away as I tried to get her attention) to get something that was left off my plate. I honestly don't know if I will come back here even though the food was so good. The service was enough to ruin even the very best food. The Mexican Burrito was loaded with chicken, peppers and onions smothered in cheese sauce and came with refried beans, guacamole and sour cream. Great meal. The lunch experience would have been so much better if the waitress had given us any indication that she was pleased that we were there. Very few places are open on a Sunday out here in the sticks. The place was packed with church crowds but we sat at the bar and had prompt drink service. The food took a bit of time for the food but really, it was packed at every table. Also, my assumption is everyone arrived at the same time. I had a top shelf Texas margarita and it was smooth and not too sweet or tangy. For food, I ordered off the lunch menu. I got the pollo chipotle and it was surprisingly yummy. It was a creamy spicy sauce on top of roasted poblano peppers, chicken, mushrooms, and onions. Living in Atlanta and as a frequent diner of the Buford Highway Mexican establishments and I'd put this place against them. Try it out! read more

The chips and salsa they bring to your table when you arrive are very good. Unfortunately, it's all downhill from there. Very bland flavorless foods. The burrito sauce tastes like Chef Boyardee spaghetti sauce. The rice and meat are just inert -- no flavor at all. Even the tea is mediocre. I am not one to write negative reviews typically, but this place does not have the best customer service. I ordered the vegetarian fajitas and I found a twist tie in it (grilled, lol). I almost swallowed it which could have been really bad given that it is a small piece of metal. The waitress looked at me then said something to a coworker and asked if I wanted something else. At this point, my table had pretty much already finished eating, and I didn't want anything else anyways, so I said no. The interaction was fine, and I told her I just wanted to let her know for her kitchen staff to be aware. She never apologized, and I ended up paying full price for a meal that I was nervous to eat half of in fear of finding something else that could be harmful. After that interaction, it took about another 10-15 minutes for her to come back over so we could ask for the check (keep in mind, that I had already said we were done eating). Just be aware when choosing this restaurant that they don't have the best customer service or health practices as evidenced by the grilled twist tie. read more

NO GO! My family and I went to dinner at El Sitio yesterday and have experienced explosive diarrhea in the 24 hours following our meal. Not to mention the fact that the service was terrible! We had to basically beg for more chips after ordering a large cheese dip. Obviously we are going to need more than one basket of chips to eat salsa and a large cheese dip amongst FOUR people. We had to get up and take our completely empty basket to the bar and plead for a refill of chips so we could eat our now cold cheese. The food was fine, but definitely not worth the health complications that followed only hours later. There are plenty of better options at the lake for Mexican food. I recommend El Agave and El Jalisco before I would ever wish El Sitio on even my worst enemy. read more

Every time I tried to order the server walked away from me I brushed it off bc they seemed busy but he did my boyfriend the same way like we didn't matter, and when I ordered a mango margarita he brought me the wrong kind! I ordered beef and he brought me chicken and not one time appolgized for his mistakes!!! He spoke and made sure that every one around us was fine but didn't ask us not one time! As others was leaving he asked how was the food and have a great night but he didn't open his mouth to us! Just had dinner here with my wife. Greeting as we entered was by four of the nearby staff. I can tell they focus on service for this casual very clean Mexican rest. Table cloth under glass was a unique surprise. Food was good and very reasonable. I had beef burrito which was hot and fresh. Thanks for the friendly, clean and good food experience. We will be back.
