The pupusa here are SO GOOD that I could eat them every day, if it wasn't for the fact that the service takes forever! I ordered takeout and had to sit down and wait for like 40 mins for TWO pupusas. While they were delicious I was annoyed it took that long. The restaurant inside also seems like a nice place to eat but I only got takeout. Looking forward to trying new things but maybe I'll order over the phone and then pick up.

Best pupusas I've ever had... so far. The Curtido was delicious tooo! Not too acidic. Perfect.

3 stars purely based off horrible service. I low-key think the waitress forgot to put our food ticket in. Took 1hour and 40mins for the entrees to come out. We also noticed another table that was there before us get up and leave because their food wasn't coming out. At no point did our waitress advise us if their was an issue in the kitchen or even asked if we were doing okay. I'm fairly easy to please when it comes to food. The food was good however, the dining experience made me not want to return. FOOD: I had shrimp in tomato sauce. The shrimps were super fresh and delicious. Came with tostones and salad. Perfect light meal. My friend had churrasco w/ white rice and beans. Pretty generic but the churrasco had a great flavor to it. After the entrees we were hesitant on ordering pupusas Bc we didn't want to wait long but that was the original reason we came here. I haven't had a good pupusa in over a year and my homegirl swore up and down this was the best pupusa spot in her area. WOMP WOMP. 30mins to come out and they were dry. Thankfully my entree was decent. UPDATE: def not going back. 2 stars now - Specifically asked to pack the saucy shrimp separate from tostones & Salad and this is the mess I opened at home.

This is a great Salvadoran restaurant a stones throw from the 2,5 train at 149th and 3rd ave. I stopped by on my way home from work and got take out. The waiter behind the counter was very courteous and helped explain a few things on the menu that I was not familiar with. He let me try their homemade Jugo de Maranon, which is a cashew fruit juice, and it was so delicious! I waited around 15 minutes for my whole roasted chicken, side of rice and beans, and 2 "mixed" (beans, cheese, pork) papusas. The hour long train ride home was killer with the smells wafting up through the bags. I thoroughly enjoyed the entire meal, the chicken was juicy and flavorful, the papusas were flavorful, and it was enough for dinner for 2 and 2 lunches. The whole thing set me back $15 (cash only right now), not bad!

If you need authentic Salvadorean food, you have to check it out. The pupusas and horchata are amazing. Check them out.

I was already kind of full but the entrees we got were also very delicious. I wish I knew how to cook fish or chicken that juicy but keeping the outside crunchy-crispy. 10/10 for all the food. Idk why but the music was so upbeat and it kept me feel rushed for some reason but that might be just me! Haha The service was great, the water kept getting filled and they were very attentive. Would definitely come back again!

4 Stars for dine-in. 3 Stars for delivery…read more I think this is the only Pupuseria in Astoria & am very happy about that! Used to go to the restaurant Mundo in this spot years ago. It's a cozy space just a block from the N/Broadway stop & in the heart of a busy few blocks with a lot of restaurant, cafe, bar, & grocery options. Sometimes I forget about this spot because it's just off the avenue, but it's worth a visit! Have dined in (outdoor seating during the summer) & ordered take-out (placed in-person) before. Usual order are Pupusas (chicharron & loroco + cheese - a tasty herb, like little buds that taste basil/oregano-like), Mojito, Pomegranate juice, Marañon juice (cashew apple fruit - like apple + pineapple). Everything was tasty, fresh & well made. The red sauce (bits of oregano) & curtido (pickled cabbage & carrots, a few chilies) with the pupusas are a must! But 3 Stars for a recent delivery (Sunday evening), the quality of the pupusas weren't great (thick), the Elote Tamale (sweet corn tamale with sour cream) was soggy & tasted tinny. Not sure if it was from the foil and/or it had a leak when it was being boiled. Maybe this item isn't ordered often. Good leak-free packaging for the delivery though - lots of tape! 5 Stars for the female UberEats worker who delivered by bike (in December)! I'll stick to in-person ordering & pick-up (the pupusas take a little time to make, but worth it) & hopefully the quality improves. The service & staff has always been great and it's a cute restaurant for a date or even families!

Really great authentic food!…read more There aren't many Guatemalan food spots in Manhattan so Tikal is definitely a gem. Yummy, home cooked, family vibes is how I would describe the food and the restaurant. The owner is also very friendly and service is speedy! We had the chicken en pulique and the chicken was so incredibly moist and fall of the bone tender. The tortillas also seem fresh and handmade which is amazing as well. I loved the cuchito. The empanada is very nice in that it's different from the typical wheat empanadas you see in NYC since it is made of corn. The loroco pupusa is something I would definitely come back for too. Essentially, everything was delicious!

New to the competitive restaurant neighborhood of Lenox Hill, Tikal is a welcome edition. We picked…read moreup food the last night and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. We ordered tacos with beef and some with pork. They were delicious! The grilled skirt steak was fine if you like your steak well done. For those, like myself, who prefer steak medium rare, it was a disappointment. The chicken entrée in a creamy sauce was a highlight. The mixed green salad was unfortunately mostly iceberg lettuce. The sweet plantains were exceptionally tasty, and despite being fried, they were not too greasy. The black beans were prepared differently than we expected in that they were sort of mashed up and very thick rather than whole beans served in a bit of sauce. Nevertheless they weren't bad. The shrimp ceviche was outstanding! Try Tikal - you'll like it!
